So why has no one complained about the fact that this game is always online yet has faulty servers that can disconnect and interrupt your gameplay completely, I love suddenly being sent to the title screen.

Yeah I tried switching to Arcane gear and it still 3 round
lazer beamed
all my health to hell. I think its time for me to take a break for the night lol

i get your point but lol

Weird, my friends and I haven't experience this. Maybe something wrong with your internet? I dont know.

I'm reposting this (heh, reposting) from an earlier thread, since it didn't generate any discussion there. I'm interested in opinions on this stuff. I'd like to go into more detail about why I think parrying is messed up in this game in a PVE context and how it should be fixed, but I think I'll wait and see if anyone's even interested first.

Unless somebody can give me a logical explanation for why the developers might have intended for the delayed enemy reaction to a successfully parried attack, I think someone needs to forward this post to the devs. Great breakdown with the photos.

Wow, it's insane how fast this +10 Threaded Cane rips through Amygdala. Just helped like 10 people beat it. The running R2 is perfect for hitting her head.

The issue seems to be resolved now.

"It's always online when I'm playing online"... What.
Always online as in the game instantly ends if your connection gets interrupted for whatever reason. It's 2015, like any other game it should just inform you that your connection to the server was lost and let you resume playing unless you're specifically in a co-op or pvp match.

Just happened to me a few minutes ago...was the first time since I have been playing and have been playing since day one, was odd because it hadn't happened before.

In NG+, some things I noticed:

When you die - I was under the impression you couldn't go back to Hunter's Dream or you lose your blood stain. In NG+, I'm seeing it after returning because I don't care as much - did I just play the first time without restocking for the fear of losing my progress? Or is NG+ bugging for me?

Also, I'm better with timing during boss battles, so I'll sometimes do a hold-R2 attack head-on. I did this to Vicar Amelia as she came at me and it did the stun action, allowing me to do a visceral. Is this a thing I wasn't aware of?

yep. the bloodstains never disappear unless you die again (and thus create a new bloodstain)

I died at Logarious once at like lvl 58, I think went to lecture hall grinded for an hour to get my level up. Went back through the Woods to get some loot I skipped and then hours later returned and my bloodstain was still there were still there.

Just decided I'd had enough of Oedon
being inaccessible, went back to kill that Henryk fucker once and for all, got there and he was lying in a pool of blood. He killed Eileen last time we tried to take him down, and I've left him alone since. Is this a way for the game to get rid of him because future events necessitate his being gone, or what?

Damn... I forced hard mode on myself or something.

E
brietas
slaughtered.
Thankfully the beckoning bell helped. First time it rang the guy that joined died about halfway through the fight smh. Then I died to the
lazers
as usual.

Rang the bell a second time and this time it looked like the guy that joined knew what he was doing (thankfully) and we took her out pretty easy.

Guys I got a question about old yaharn.

there's a room, a huge room, that looks like a church, and a huge beast hanging in the middle, I think I saw a video with that thing on fire, is there a way to do that?

I did that one solo using the strategy where you try to always stay all up close behind her. Wasn't so bad that way. Kind of a boring but effective strategy.

You know, with the I
osefka
glitch, I wonder if it's possible to get behind the door before ever going to the H
unters Dream? I know killing the wolf is easy given backstab/visceral still do a lot of damage without any weapons. I just don't know if I could make it past the Executioner without a gun to parry. And if you could, would the real Iosefka still be there since she wouldn't have been replaced yet?

Yeah if you go on the
scaffolding near the roof you can cut down a rope that drops something flammable on the beast corpse
.

Every boss will be rough. I'd love to see a defiled chalice run at lvl 4 lol.

Haha I finally beat her! The second half was pretty hectic, I ran out of numbing mists so I had to be very quick to start hitting her when she started healing. The first three bosses were pretty simple and I didn't die much against them but Vicar Amelia was the first challenging one. I'm not particularly looking forwards to the end game bosses that have 10,000+ HP (especially not E
brietas
).

There's a gaffer that finished all the Chalice Dungeons at lvl 4, but I don't remember his name. He has a playlist on youtube with his best bossfights.

Yeah, fair enough. Dark Souls 2 handles disconnections better, I'm not sure why they didn't just reuse that system.

climb up the first ladder to where the guy was shooting you from in the first part of the level, go right and fall onto the path below, there's a thing you hit that drops a chandelier? or something and lights everything on fire.

Yeh E
brietas
was a pain for me. I think I died to her at least 15 times due to her rush and laser attacks. I was about to rage quit but I managed to stay close to her butt and slash her to death.

Those invincibility frames.
Somebody post that Muhammad Ali corner dodge gif next to this. I'm seeing similarities.

I was trying to do that but for some reason I was never able to stay back there long enough to do significant damage. So I pulled out the next best thing,
Cannon

My heart was racing Lol this is the first boss that I actually needed to sound the beckoning bell on (not ashamed)

Beat the game! From someone that had never played through any of the Souls games this game was tough, but ultimately very rewarding. I'm glad I stuck with it long enough to finish it.

I'll mess around with NG+ a little, but I think I'll be pretty much moving on to something else. Great game.
Which ending did you get?

Mulitplayer is fucked 10 ways to Sunday.

I'm sitting here in the room just before E
brietas
and I'm summoning exactly two people: Jack and Shit. Same for helping others, sitting for 10 minutes and nothing. I'm at lvl 69 which based on my previous attempts at the boss I'm pretty sure I'm not over/underleveled. What's most infuriating is that I'm literally seeing white ghosts standing around as well. Players are there. Everyone is waiting, and nobody can play because From idiotically decided to automatically do matchmaking while simultaneously breaking said matchmaking.

I'm absolutely baffled as to why this was changed to be the way it is. There's no cooperation anymore, because there's no way of knowing where you or your summoner/summonee will be at the time of the summon. The only place where you're both guaranteed to be in the same place at the same time is the room before the boss, which means basically any cooperation in the entire game is restricted to boss battles.

This shit just flat out doesn't work. I'm sitting here for 10+ minutes waiting for people to help/be helped by and I have zero clue if there's anyone even available. What's worse is you can physically see people waiting around and you still can't get/offer help.

From completely broke their own multiplayer and I have no clue why. Why would they do this?

I gotta say... the sheer amount of enemies with grab attacks in this game really might drag down my overall lasting impression and desire to replay the game.

Grabborne.

That and the multiplayer is pretty much nonexistent for me. No idea why I'm even selecting online mode every time.

I'm pretty much only doing it for messages (which ARE useful, mind you. Saved my ass many times). But the actual multiplayer is the absolute worst of the Souls games. I'm just baffled at how bad it is, objectively worse than their first effort with Demon's Souls.

Ah, good point. The messages have been helpful many times.

Does anyone know a reliable way to trigger the beast claws appearing at the shop after cainhurst? I want to do a beast claw PT without slogging it all the way to the loran chalice at low levels.

EatinOlives, do you have your network setting on worldwide? I just did the same boss fight and had to use the bell twice. I was surprised that both times it worked. I made sure I was on worldwide and removed the password. Rang it just before you drop down in the elevator. Also, I read that if you used suspend/resume, you have to restart your game because it cancels online play.

Good luck, man!

Yeah Worldwide was the first thing I changed way back at launch, and I restarted my game prior to playing today. This isn't the first time it has happened either, I had a hell of a time trying to get people for M
artyr
L
ogarius
, summoned two people in two separate occasions in a span of like 30 minutes, both died at his spammy spam attacks that were the spammiest that ever spammed. :(

I really enjoy the Pvp players. Got invaded, first thing he did was walk up to me and bow. I bow back and we contiune with our match. We both didn't use blood vials. Manage to win in the end, and gave a bow as he left.

I'm sitting here in Byrgenwerth waiting for people to join me. It looks like the further I progress the less players there are

It's probably because the area has almost nothing to do once you've cleared it. I tried waiting as well (had trouble with the hunter) and no-one came.

Turns out level 96 is way too strong for NG...

That boss (Ebe-something) everyone keeps saying is extremely difficult went down on the first try with only a couple of blood vials used.

Level 96 is way over leveled for NG. People are finishing their playthrough around 70. No wonder youre not getting any matchmaking for that boss.

Especially considering that Dark Souls II (which has waaaayyyy better netcode I should mention) does just that. If you get booted offline it just switches to offline mode right then and there, no going to the title screen.

So, after consulting a Wiki, it looks like I've done just about everything I can before the ending. I understand there's a "no turning back" point. Is it recommended that I do the Chalice Dungeons before heading into NG+? Honestly, the few I've done are awfully boring.

Oh yeah I forgot to reply to this as well:

Brainsuckers...it's like From decided to sit down and think about how to make literally the most annoying enemy they have ever created. Annoying projectiles that they spam endlessly? Check. Their grab move having an infuriatingly gigantic range? Check. Annoying-ass sounds, from their cries to their squishy footsteps? Check. An extra loooooooong grab move animation that's basically the game shouting "HA! YOU FUUUUCKED UUUUP!!!" (what, it's like 10+ seconds?)? Check. Draining not one, but TWO insight each. and. every. single. time. it happens? Check. The fact that these fuckers can do another grab move immediately after having done one? Check.

I had 43 insight before I entered Upper Cathedral Ward. I beat the area's boss with 21. Twenty fucking one. You bet I was the saltiest motherfucker playing the game at that moment.

Weird. I never really did any souls grinding. I did only lose my corpse three or four times, though, so I've been able to spend most of what I've gained in the game on leveling.

I haven't tried matchmaking since around level 50 or so when I fought Logarius. That was the fourth boss I tried to find help for in the game, but never got anyone to join. I just gave up on the multiplayer after that.

I did get invaded once in a nightmare, though, so I know my game isn't broken at least.

Managed to defeat the guy despite the lag. Maybe it was just that fight, but the gun parry makes the multiplayer in this game seem a bit dumb.

Brainsuckers are truly awful. I'm convinced they get special bonus time added to their grab. Nearly every time, I bait them to attack, they miss the grab, but when I jump back in to apply punishment, the game still gives it credit for hitting the grab n' suck.

Fuck it. There's a reason I never go for platinums--just ends up making me like games less.

Fuck the defiled chalice. I beat all the bosses in the main game and made it this far. Good enough for my first Souls experience. I'm done with this until any DLC.

Going to give the Dark Souls 2 remaster another go.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. The game gave credit for their grab a couple of times and I was convinced I had dodged it. Granted, I may have just actually not dodged it and my denial was mere saltiness speaking, but their grab move definitely seems like it has a very generous time window.

Thankfully I realized you can somewhat cheese then with the Blades of Mercy. I swear those blades were designed to be therapeutic. Felt so good mashing R1 and just wailing on them for the longest time, very good stress reliever and the best way to get back at those fuckers.
