I must read this.

Just bought the first issue of Superman: For Tomorrow because of this.

For Tomorrow is a plodding mess of a cynical Superman story, but it has its merits. I find it to be spiritually analogous to Man of Steel. I imagine the writers of that movie must have taken a few of the more overt cues from Brian Azzarello. Like this:

Apocalypse might sniff $1B but it's not going to beat BvS or Cap 3.

Let's not forget the highest-grossing X-film was directed by Brett Ratner.
The highest grossing X-Men film is Days of Future Past...

Nah, there's definitely a rivalry there. Warner couldn't have been happy with Cap forcing BvS off that Summer kick off spot. It ain't all gonna be flowers and roses between them.

No, trust me. There's no rivarly...

No matter what you tell yourself!

Warner is fine with opening in March and sure are even more confident after seeing how something like Furious 7 is doing!

In Hollywood there is fake competition. In reality it's all about getting people in the seats. Both of these films making over a billion means the comic book bubble gets extended and the money trickles down to the smaller stuff they make.

WB and Disney have been frenemies for decades.

I wish all of their future films were slotted sooner. I know some people are tired of the pace marvel churns out movies but I love it. That, in my mind, is the biggest advantage Marvel has over WB. All DC projects are produced in-house by WB whereas marvel is able to partner with multiple studios simultaneously. The BvS delay still stings.

Yeah by the time the 2019 movies roll around I'm going to feel so old. I think New Line is handling Shazam (Rock said the film may come earlier than slated), but everything else is inhouse. Too bad they couldn't keep Legendary Pictures under contract, they would have been able to share the load. 2 Movies per year is a pretty good pace, plus we have unannounced Batman, Superman, JL Dark films on the way. I wouldn't be surprised if some dates shift at SDCC.

I don't know what to say. As a trailer, I think it is bad (especially compared to the Man of Steel trailer which I thought was one of the better trailers of that year). This looks bad. Or, maybe I am just projecting since the Man of Steel movie was god awful.

I don't understand the mindset of someone over the age 13 being excited by this. But, whatever.

And, is that Holly Hunter in the V.O.? Why is she slumming it?

2016 is going to be crazy, people should stop this bickering and just be glad we are finally getting these movies.

if you tell me 15 years ago we would be getting our first live-action Apocalypse, Batman vs Superman fight, fucking Suicide Squad movie, Captain America Iron Man and Spider Man in the same movie... well I would have tell you it's nice to dream, but nope here we are.

And I think for Marvel it's good that DC offers an alternative to their joyful movies, if DC started doing movies with the same tone then I really believe superhero fatigue would settle in very fast. You have one serious and gritty universe of superheroes (with the occasional lighthearted movie like Shazam or Flash) and on the other hand you have a cheerful, joyful universe (with the ocassional dark and gritty movie or series)

But you're telling yourself they're perfectly fine with Disney pushing them off their desired release date. How do you know the things you tell yourself are more correct than the things I tell myself? Neither one of us works at Warner Bros. I'm sure their egos were at least a little bruised when Captain America scared off two of the biggest superheros of all time.

And, is that Holly Hunter in the V.O.? Why is she slumming it?

1) you can count the number of actors who HAVEN'T appeared in a superhero film over the past two decades on one hand.

2) Holly Hunter's been headlining middle-of-the-road potboiler dramas on TNT lately. Getting a job in Warner Bros. 2016 tentpole is probably a bit of a step up.

Well, that's depressing. Thanks for the info.

I really like the Man of Steel teaser, but I think they both do a pretty solid job of telling you nothing and just kind of getting you excited for the idea of the movie

Okay, they may not like that, but one thing doesn't make a rivalry or a war with another company.

Honestly, I was surprised because Warner typically releases their big blockbuster during what I call "Nolan weekend" which is like the 3rd weekend in July around the time of TDK/TDKR/Inception so May was early.

But still don't think they are like writing nasty e-mails to each other about Disney

2017 is what I'm most hype for. GotG 2, Marvel's Spider-Man, Episode VIII, Justice League, motherfucking WONDER WOMAN.

...Oh and there's a Thor movie....

Yeah, it's a shame. He has a better grasp on Batman and Wonder Woman. Oh well, 2/3 of The Holy Trinity isn't bad.
His run ended meh as fuck....but I'd be lying if I said he wasn't one of the few people still at DC who knows how to write Diana herself.

We'll have to ask North Korea.

EDIT: DAMN the double post -__-

If only Black Panther did not get pushed back to 2018.

Trailer looked solid. I'm a fan of Cavil's Superman, and Snyder's film style, so I'll see this regardless.

Avengers 2, Star Wars, and Ant Man have me more hyped though.

(raise hand)

Isn't Batman a good person deep down too?

I always felt that, deep down, Batman is a crazy person. Some times just a little bit, some times a lot, but there's always a crazy person in there somewhere, regardless of the interpretation.

i just realised i have 3 Batman/Superman graphic novels at home i really should read again. No idea what they are but this thread makes me want to go and review them again.

Imagine if they still shared the same opening weekend.

Honestly, it would have been something to see.

You'd have arguably the two biggest superheroes of all time on screen together for the first time vs the vanguard for the new era of superhero blockbusters.

I don't even know what families going out that weekened would have thought.

"Do you wanna see Batman and Superman or Iron Man and Captain America?"

It would have been nuts. I think it would have been a bigger event than Avengers 2 is looking to be at least in terms of how many people would be in theaters.

There would probably be roving nerd gangs fighting outside of the theaters for which movie was better lmao.

Yo this is something I've been thinking about a lot as well. I feel like once you start to see the same people in multiple superhero roles/blockbusters it starts to feel a little weird.

I mean just in CBMs you have Chris Evans, Ben Affleck, and Ryan Reynolds all playing two major superheros each (3 if you count Reynold's trash RIPD movie or Affleck playing Reeves playing Superman lmao). Tom Hardy barely avoided being in this club by backing out of Suicide Squad.

Then you got Chris Pratt who is carrying GOTG, Jurassic World, and also voicing the main character in the Lego movie along with maybe starring in a Indiana Jones reboot. RDJ carries Iron Man/Sherlock. Zoe Saldana is in Star Trek and Guardians, and that indie Avatar flick. Karl Urban is in Star Trek and Dredd. Benedict is now Dr. Strange on top of playing Kahn in STID. Eric Bana was in Star Trek and at one point played the Hulk. Renner has Hawkeye and Bourne. Lawrence is in X-Men and the Hunger Games. Smith is Deadshot and has MIB. Oscar Issacs is about to be everywhere for a year with Star Wars and X-Men. The list goes on and on.

Jeffery Dean Morgan is in this and he was also in Watchman. Like, it's becoming less of a question of who hasn't done a superhero flick or franchise but how many they've done or got under their belt.

Isn't Batman a good person deep down too?

He uses his person pain at his parents death to beat up on criminals. He's rational enough to know that pummelling the manifestations of crime, rather than using his wealth to address the core problems that result in criminals, is ultimately fruitless.

But he likes feeling bones crack and delivering 'justice', as he was once helpless but is no longer. He is insane, fundamentally, and not a 'good person'. His goals are noble but they aren't altruistic, and his methods are questionable.

lol now I've heard everything.

The streets would have run red with the blood of nerds. Both films would have suffered financially for it though so keeping the dates would have been plain stupid.

He's well intentioned but it's arguable that he does more harm than good and is aware of it.

What does he really do? Crack a few street criminals' skulls, adopt a child into a dangerous lifestyle, let a psychopath murder thousands because of his personal rules, rinse and repeat.

He's a madman on a personal crusade. Being a 'good person' doesn't play into it for him.

Yup. This is the exact reason as to why DC decided to reschedule the film. It's not about winning or losing. It's more about earning more or less money, and probably Marvel was fine with it too.

Who knows, have two movies with such heavy hype behind them, similar premises (sort of) and with a subtle (or not) rivalry going between them ever opened on the same weekend?

I could have seen it potentially creating some weird cultural zeitgeist of people turning up to the theaters for repeat viewings just for the peanut gallery showdowns and the general circus. Not to mention you'd need probably two visits regardless to see both flicks unless you like marathoning movies.

Or probably both would have just tanked each other like you said.

It would have been crazy for sure though. I'd imagine opening weekend would have been basically nothing but screenings of either in most theaters.

Yeah, adults who get excited over finally seeing a glimpse of an awesome Batman in an awesome batsuit getting ready to duke it out with Superman...on the silver screen...are clearly childish and needs to grow up.

Yeah I feel like I'm suddenly in the twilight zone, or Earth-3. Back when Dick was Batman, he was recounting to Damian how Bruce went out of his way to help a former criminal get back on his feet.

He's well intentioned but it's arguable that he does more harm than good and is aware of it.

That sounds exactly like Miller's All-Star Batman and Robin.

And the suit looked majestic as fuck with proper lightining

ugh... Him just looking tired, mouth agape like that... This is fucking Batman, surrounded now by the cops, and he just looks high as fuck. Begins and Dark Knight had some awesome, intense close-ups on him where the dude looked fucking fierce. This was such a disappointing "Batman's back!" scene.
