Jurassic World - Official Global Trailer

It's more than that. JP1 is about a man's hubris to build an illegal park. Nedry's group in turn uses this shitty situation to do their dirty work. JP2 has Vince Vaughan and crew being terrible despite being in a terrible area. JP3 is a fever dream about rich people stealing raptors eggs. All shitty situations compounded by even shittier planning. JWorld just seems like, Occam's Razor the movie.

Just a note, JP2's problems didn't come from Vince Vaughan's team, they came from Malcom's. Vaughan's crew was doing their job professionally and had everything controlled until Malcom's little band sabotaged their work and caused the chaos. Even after the initial issues, Vaughan's team would have gotten things back under control if there wasn't even more sabotage (like bullets being removed from guns).

I think you have Vaughn mixed up with InGen.
Vince Vaughn lets out all the dinosaurs and causes the chaos.

Not sure if this has been addressed anywhere else in this thread, but could anyone make out even one animatronic shot? Cause I sure couldn't. It was all CGI. Decent looking CGI, better than the first trailer, but IMO the best shots in Jurassic Park were of the animatronic T-Rex. Just looked realistic.

Also, they seem to be going the blockbuster action route with this movie. It's less of the story and the wonder associated with dinosaurs that the first movie introduced and more of the King Kong dino scene sort of action. Hopefully the movie will have more substance to it.

looks hella MEH

generic blockbuster that we can all guess how it plays out and the trailer even makes sure of it

The original Jurassic Park (and perhaps Lost World) were really good about obscuring the feet of dinosaurs in full-body shots of them standing relatively in one place, like in all of the gifs above. It was to help mask the fact that feet were the most difficult aspect of a cgi model to blend into the background plate, so that would of course make it hard to "anchor" the model into the world. It's not a problem with fast-moving dinosaurs

I wondered if they were still doing the same trick 20+ years later.

Looks like a probable "yes". Look at the direction of Pratt's shadow compared to those of the raptors. The raptor shadows were intentionally positioned to obscure their feet.

Nice observation!

also, yes: the CG landscape and the way they still rely on it makes it way less exciting, dunno why people are criticizing that argument

they're relying on "look at these fucking dinosaurs!!!" when we're in a world of Transformer shit and CG everywhere

the same tricks are not gonna work. It was impressive before, and even worked better when they used it sparingly. This just looks super uninspired and shit flying around and going bonkers everywhere all the time and the dinosaurs are good now and motorcycles and it's a monster movie and!

I dunno man I wanna be excited but cant

I even already hate the kids in it

and I like Pratt but him being there and being straight up CHRIS PRATT on even that first scene makes this even more "generic as heck blockbuster" than it already seems

Upong watching this trailer a second time I am lest pesimistic than I was on my previous post.
Dinosaurs, why are you so friggin' cool?

And this is wrong, how? Like I said it shares the themes as it should, being a sequel, but it isn't empty of its own central story or ideas.

But that's my point: the central story and ideas are the same. The genetic-hunter-hybrid is the new wrapping.

It's not intrinsically "wrong" but you can't blame someone for dismissing it as cynical and lazy.

at this point I hope the movie goes batshit and the new Dinosaur does talk to all others and even grabs an AK at some point and takes hostages or something

just go bonkers and salvage it

Really? JP had a ton of iconic CG shots, especially the Rex.

More .gifs please.

Nah, that isn't what's happening at all. You have to realize, she is smart but they're all just animals. And they aren't nearly as smart as her. She isn't psychic, or talking to the other dinos, that much I know.

From what I understand, she is being opportunistic- scaring the animals into a frenzy to help her own escape.

That's what I gathered from the trailer as well. I refuse to believe that the movie is dumb enough to have some secret dino language that allows I-rex to communicate.

What ultimately keeps me somewhat optimistic for this movie is that the writers also penned the screenplays for Rise/Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Plus Trevorrow in the director's chair. The spectacle will be there. The movie will be fun and entertaining. We just need to care about the characters, and the two recent Apes movies pulled that off really well.

She's gonna be smart. She's gonna do some things that will feel very Sci-Fi (but not SyFy, not IMO at least), but nothing that outrageous.

I'll still see it but I wish it was less "generic blockbuster".

I mean, I'm seeing a lot of vision going on. I think there are beautiful and inspired shots, like the underwater feeding show. The art direction of the new park is very neat and attractive. The trailer does focus on the action, but it is a trailer. I also think the action on display makes sense. It makes sense for there to be a security force on the island just in case something like this were to happen, and I don't think adding guns or explosions to something automatically makes it "generic blockbuster."

If anything I think it's the first Jurassic Park anything since the original to have any inspired ideas, and they're concepts lifted out of Crichton's writing. Naturally I'm not questioning your opinion, just articulating why I don't think it looks generic. I will take this absolutely any day over them coming up with some throwaway reason. I'm happy that this isn't "someone goes boating and crashes and has to escape the island;" to me, that's generic. This is taking the original concept and giving it a different approach, and that's what I like to see in a sequel.

It's not intrinsically "wrong" but you can't blame someone for dismissing it as cynical and lazy.

I guess I should ask, if this stuff is lazy/cynical, what wouldn't be? We already got two sequels that were digging for reasons to exist, but this one actually goes with some of those original concepts. The Lost World was even dumber with trying to open Jurassic Park in fucking California, and Jurassic Park III was literally about absolutely nothing. When I see stuff from this movie, I can see what it's about and what it's trying to do as a new story. It feels more developed and conceptualized to me than the other sequels.

the first movie is a blockbuster, sure, but not in today's sense of the word on what's succesful

it's an adventure movie that relies on a sense of wonder, the way a lot of spielberg movies are, and yes it's a result of its time and the CG and new technologies are a big part of it and that's done now. This feels like "omg shit is going DOWN!!! CG SHIT FLYING!" with very little novelty

It'll feel plenty enough like an adventure. The trailer though focused on the task force getting their asses promptly handed to them. I'll admit it's a haphazard trailer meant to be like action fuck yeah, but while some are saying that it shows the whole movie, it's really not. There's plenty of adventure/traditional elements in it. This stuff mainly happens a bit early on; sending the soldiers after Indominus is their first action against it. It's by no means the cream and crop of the movie.

im just worried of them trying to recreate the original movie too much. Equating wonder with a long shot of everyone being amazed at a CG dinosaur that isnt really impressive nowadays at all

I'll see the movie and im open to be surprised, im just not feeling it

holy fuck. I love Jurassic park but not only did they blow their entire load during that trailer but a lot of the dialog looks sub par as well. Ugh. I'll see it, but... super low expectations :(

also, is every trailer just using the whole "...BWWWWAAAAAAAAAAHMMM" thing now? it's so fucking overdone jesus

Bounch will remember that.

You know what? I accept the stupid premise of mutant super killer dino in a theme park now. Because the trailer made me realize it's just a plot device to bring absolute havoc to an already established and well organized park.
It won't be something classy like JP, but it could be as fun as Lost World.

I wonder if we're getting the 'water dino launches out of water with camera looking down it's throat' 2x in this movie? Or if this scene is completely changed.
