Marvel will unveil another gay character tomorrow

It is. Hopefully Secret Wars stops this time travel crap forever.

They are just going to swap time travel crap with reality travel crap. I can see them being the only X-men on Earth post Secret Wars given Marvels current plans for the X series.

Probably should say in the OP that's it isn't the original Iceman but a different, younger Iceman that got brought to the present via time machine.

The reveal could have been handled better... but this is still great for his character. Iceman has always had really cool powers but as an actual character could have been a lot stronger. This gives them something to work with to help differentiate him. I love it!

Bobby's one of the strongest personalities in the X-Men... The only real criticism against Bobby is that he's too similar to Johnny Storm.
Man I love Warbird and ICeman, it was so Tsundere

Deadpool x Siren 4 lyfe

Iceman is often the heart of the team. And recently the big gun

yeah but he'll probably be the only Iceman after Secret Wars, if they're bothering to flesh him out like this, so whatever

So now that I've actually seen the pages, I'm pretty disappointed. Did they have to immediately shoot down the possibility that he was bi? And it's not Jean's place to tell Bobby what his sexuality is. I would rather Bobby have time to explore this before he himself figures it out.

I mean, I'm still thrilled. One of Marvel's longest lasting characters came out of the closet. I hate how it always have to new characters who are LGBT; like they're some strange other who can't be in the big leagues.

oddly enough there's been quite a few nonhetero sexual characters related to x-men. northstar, mistique, daken.... probably a bunch of other random side characters too
Yeah, it's really no big deal. He is one of the original X-Men though, but it's not like those others haven't had significant roles in the X-books as well.

Is there a lot of openly bi heroes in Marvel? can't really think of any. In fact the only character I know as bi in the big two is Selena Kyle.

Well if you're counting Selena as a hero,

Yeah, I'm always down for more gay characters but I don't like them shutting down the bi angle like that either, especially with the "full gay" thing. Bi people being treated like they don't exist or as being "half out of the closet" is still very much a thing.

you can be my wing man anytime. we knew this already

OH the other one, gotcha

edit - haha wtf is he wearing on his hand, some weird shred of 80s

Implication seems to be that older Iceman is "full gay" too but never accepted it, which is why he fails at relationships with women.

You're right it's not Jean's place, but presumably given her age she hasn't worked out all the ethics and moral quandaries about her powers yet.

Considering your avatar and that it is supposedly a "long-hend fan theory"... i'm guessing sarcasm? I don't read the X-books like I used to :)

I really need to get more into comics again.

He's always been the character that dated the most, the gay jokes were more because of his costume. Revealing him as gay doesn't bother me at all though, it's everything else that's confusing.

Bendis truly doesn't get the X-Men.

The whole original 5 coming from the past is so dumb.
I recently read Battle of the Atom. Good lord, what a mess of a book. So stupid, the "they just went away with nobody noticing in the middle of a fight plt device" is used at least 3 times! this was like reading an Abbot and Costello sketch, without the funnymen.

When will Bendis drop these books?

Bendis dialogue is still scust tier, I see.

As a bi dude....

Yikes

I'm not bi, but that part seemed kind of "What the fuck" to me too. Booby is raising a good point by saying his older self has been with women and that could mean he's bi. Why shut him down like that, especially when they're talking about his orientation? Who the fuck is Jean to tell him what he is?

Mystique is gay? Whaaaaaa. I never heard of this.

As far as it goes Mystique will sleep with anyone that would help further her goals. Whether she has a preference for only one gender we don't really know. She's definitely never been established as a lesbian as far as I know. She appears to be bi, but we don't really know if that is just for "business" or not.

"Full Gay" is TERRIBLE wording... I mean.. seriously.

Now, I feel that I need to rewatch
Tropic Thunder
for some reason today.

Just wow.. that page.. :-(

That page feels like someone wrote the dialogue in as a joke for a webcomic. :-(

Maybe I'm yelling at clouds, but.. I remember comics being better written when I was growing up. :-( The writing ruins what could be a good character moment. Even the framing of the characters in the panels is awkward. Look at them. There's no flow or dynamic positioning. There should be more close-ups, this is talking.. but it's not interesting to LOOK at. :-(

I've given it four out of five sad faces already...

Nah she was in a long term relationship with Destiny.

That is super condensed and filtered version of the X-men. They left a lot of shit out.
Of course, that's how it goes. But that is how most people will have been exposed to him. I do think this will be an improvement for him.

I did not know Daken was gay as well. The list of gay males in the X-verse isn't that small afterall.

Huh the more you know. I've only really encountered him in Dark Avengers and Uncanny X-force.

They say everybody is

Walked into that lol

She really gives no shits when it comes to using her powers on other people. Can't say I've liked what Bendis has done with the character she's been pretty terrible all round.

This has been her defining trait since the start of Bendis' ANXM experiment; Young Jean is constantly sticking her mind into other people's business and then reporting or acting on it according to her own (lack of) judgement.

Kind of a one-trick pony.

Don't judge the entire state of the medium off of one comic, let alone one written by Brian Michael Bendis in the year 2015.

seriously? Full gay? Lmao

Did they just watch Tropic Thunder?

If I were editing this, I would have cut panels, 2, 3, and 5. So we have the top conversation, which I would send back to the artist and demand a closer shot of Iceman's face. Then have some high contrast and clip the bottom half of the panel where he is covering his ears, then cut to that floating panel of his "Yeah... I know.." bit. Then I would use the rest of the page for a cut away to some sort of action sequence.

*groan* I hope you're wrong but you might be on to something.

If that happens, I'm dropping the X-books (how many are remaining that is) after 25+ years of collecting. The O5 just doesn't interest me (unless it's reading the original Lee/Kirby material).

Hmmm, where's that homoerotic outtake where Jackman and Ashmore were goofing around during X-Men 2 shooting? It was kind of hilarious then and even more so now in this context.
