Marvel will unveil another gay character tomorrow

You just make it there, over time if need be. This is like an awkward "time out" from the story to loudly express an issue that never really came up before.

It really still wouldn't fit for the character as we've seen, but it would have been much less confusing if it was present day Ice Man stating he was gay. Instead of doing a longer arch of a character having conflict and finally realizing who they are over time in a poignant story arch, Marvel allows Bendis to write poorly written crap like this.

Wow, that writing is terrible holy shit. Nobody saw this before it got printed and thought "hey maybe you should think about this again". I'm all for more diversity but we can do better than this no?

I hope it's revealed that the past X-men are actually from a different reality all together. I hate the idea of past Iceman being gay and future iceman being straight. It makes my skin crawl a bit that they basically implied he eventually unlearned being gay.

It really shouldn't even work like that, the only time machine in Marvel that actually affects the present(all other time machines work more like parallel universe machines) is Dr.Doom's.

But Bendis doesn't give a shit about that so eh.

Superhero has a fear of his sexuality getting out or some sort of uncertainty in himself? You telling me you wouldn't do an arc with Mojo or Daken or various psychic villains using that to get an advantage and fuck with him letting him come out while performing some kind of heroic feat while doing so?

Rather than 'psychic girl tells you that you're gay'

Edit: I'm pretty sure characters have been giving her shit for doing that for a while. I don't know why it's being portrayed in a positive light here.

I don't think he "unlearned" being gay...at least that's not what I got from the panel posted a few pages back.

More like he repressed it, because he couldn't handle being both a mutant AND gay.

I could be wrong.

I've been to enough comic conventions in the last few years to know that the entire independent comics scene more than makes up for much of the weak and awkward writing that has invaded much of Marvel and DC these last few years. I'm a big supporter of the CBLDF.

Of course, I actively stopped reading a bunch of the superhero comics about the time that we had like.. five "Supermans" running around and the whole terrible "Crimson Spider-Man - Parker's Parents are alive" bit. I pop back into Marvel & DC stuff every now and again though. The sooner Bendis becomes a "convention hopper," the better, I suppose. That page is full of panels that a good editor should have vetoed.
 
I feel there's still an issue with bisexual characters being seen as having loose morals because the idea is that they'll "sleep with anyone" or something

Exactly. And it was handled better. This was handled in the worst and most blatant way possible. It is literally explained to the character and subsequently the audience, for really no reason.

honestly my guess is that the young x-men will be the only x-men after the secret wars in a few months so they're trying to shoehorn in some character development before that so they don't have to deal with it afterwards

Okay, I guess that's fair enough as far as explanations go. It's still awful, but if they're attempting to set up future dynamics, there's some payoff potential.

I read it as Jean already scanning current Iceman and learning he was straight, hence the confusing situation.

X-men alone: New X-Men (Granted I think the art sucks), Astonishing X-men, Wolverine and the X-men, Uncanny X-Force.

Great books can still be made. The problem at times seems to be that Marvel allows "veterans" of the industry to be in charge of many books of their main properties. These "veterans" have shown they can't write any longer. Marvel for some reason doesn't want to get rid of some of these guys.
 
Posting full scans of an unreleased comic is a big no-no. Take those down before Comics GAF gets banished to...community where we already are!

I don't disagree with your comment on editors at all, it's completely true. Bendis just has too much pull and no one seems to care. Several issues of Guardians of the Galaxy spelled Richard Rider's name wrong and he also changed Knowhere, which is a floating celestial head in space, to a planet IIRC. No explanation or anything.

The dude has written two legendary runs for Marvel (Daredevil and Ultimate Spidey), but they really should not be afraid to jump in every now and then.
 
I just want to point out, DC had a perfectly competent gay character for a decent amount of time before it decided to screw with the creative behind it (Batwoman).

One of the only good things to come out of the New 52. Screw DC and Marvel.

By past, I meant before Marvel NOW and New 52. Those X-books are all some of my favorites. Anything that comes out now has a "we'll see" label on it. I know Snyder is still doing the lord's work on Batman, and there are a few good writers out there. I rather find out after the fact whether it's good or not, though.
