Does anyone else not give a shit about comics

I never gave a shit about comic books as a kid hence I don't give a shit about the comic book movies.

Not at all. The only way I will get back into comics or video games are if my son starts liking them. He likes pre-school age stuff right now though.

Comics are more than capes. And definitely more than Marvel and DC.

I love the medium. I hate Marvel and DC's strangle hold on their side of the industry, but I love the medium.

Superhero comics - could care less, shit is beyond stupid, "ERMEHGERD I PIERCED YOUR UNPENETRATEABLE SHIELD OF SHIELDING WITH MY ULTRAMEGADICKCANNON"

Comics with other content like The Walking Dead? Fucking gold. The medium has alot of potential beyond childish Superheroes one upping each other, but its fairly dominated by that silly nonsense.
Because TWD is so fucking mature.

People generalizing an entire medium out of ignorance are just tiring and make it painfully obvious they're not worth talking to. I bet there's an interesting comic for everyone in here proudly proclaiming their disdain for comics. There are stories worth experiencing in every medium or genre. And that includes superhero comics.

Meh...

I am a visual person. Never enjoyed reading anything but comics when I was younger. Ditched comics after Age of Apocalypse arc which also was around puberty and focused on girls, sports, video games and movies.

Many years later my friend was sent overseas to Korea with the army. He was so bored over there he got back into comics and when he came back recommended a bunch for me to read. By this time graphic novels were a thing and he lent some of his for me to read. I thought I was too grown for comics and after reading them I realized I still enjoyed them and that graphic novels were a WAY better way to read these stories then single issues like I did as a kid. Eventually I just started picking up stories and franchises that interested me like Street Fighter, Conan, Megaman and the Batman/Superman comics.

Now that comic book movies/TV shows are very popular and good, comics are a fun way to get more entertainment on a franchise that interests me, i.e. Walking Dead, Daredevil, etc.

Not into comics, or the movies based on them. It's kind of annoying that so many movies are being made, but if it makes people happy, eh, it doesn't bother me much.

I'm a huge Star Wars fan, though. Can't wait for that movie.

Comics are fun, you just gotta find the one that tells an interesting story to you, just like any other medium.

AND ONCE AGAIN ComicGAF needs to get in here and defend their pride.

Lol shits on cape comics with a ridiculous, outdated generalization then proceeds to praise The Walking Dead of all books.

There's all sorts of shit out there and great content as well just like any medium. Just gotta put some effort in to find something you enjoy. I love superhero books, some are definitely pretty damn bad but there are good writers out there constantly pushing the medium to new heights. Then there is a vast selection of other genres out there that most people ignore.

I would love to read comics but they are too confusing with all the tie ins etc to get the whole experience. The general layout is too complex for me to dedicate my time figuring the order to read some of them.

I read the walking dead because it's straight forward. Issues 1-100. Easy.

I'd say the number of people who don't care about comics is far greater than the number that do.

Of my group of friends, only my best friend and I read comics. So the fact that we're finally seeing GOOD live-action versions of the comics we read when we were kids is a dream come true. I spent my entire childhood reading Wizard and pondering what an Avengers or Iron Man movie would be like. Now Valient...it's just awesome.

The best part is that there is no authoritarian government telling you to read the comics or watch the movies.

I totally get not caring about the superhero stuff but it's kinda sad to dismiss a whole media.

Comic books are fun, yo

Comics are cool and way more diverse as a story telling medium than most people realize. That said if you don't like them, cool I guess, thanks for letting everyone know.

You mad I don't like the thing you like? I don't find superhero comics enjoyable. Deal with it.

How much could you care less?

Go back to english class Nerd.

Sounds like you read comics from the 70s and 80s.

That is generally how all superhero comics come across to me, I get that there are some that are different, some that have changed or what have you, but the whole thing I just don't enjoy.

Do you even read superhero comics? There's plenty that aren't what you described.

I don't read them, there really isn't a superhero that I could say I'm truly a fan of. I much prefer hard Sci-Fi where "hero" types get blasted by starship engines for their troubles.

Neither the comics or the movies that are based on them except with a few exceptionss (Batman etc, which were always movies first to me anyway).

When I see stuff about Marvel, Avengers etc I haven't got a clue what people are on about or what universe each is supposedly in. I dont understand the cross overs or any of that other shit either. It moght as well be quantum physics to me.

I don't care at all about comics. It's even worse when threads about movies related to comics turn into arguments about how one comic book character could totally do this to another comic book character. People then refute that with a panel from one version of that comic book character and then the other people refute refute that with ultimate panel from some other version.

That's when I can't read those threads anymore.

Maybe you should read some so Spider-Man can teach you the difference between "of" and "have".

But no, of course you're not. Millions and millions of people will see Age of Ultron whereas Marvel comics issues don't sell anything remotely close to those numbers.

Comics are too expensive for me. I mostly read and just browse the pictures to get an idea of what's going on, so the art raising the price of a story by like 800% is unreasonable to me. I buy my regular novels for like $1-5, so I just can't justify TPBs for like $30 with like 100 pages in them.

I liked Batman but that was about it for years. Didn't care about comics at all really. But then I got into Image Comics a few weeks ago and now I'm hooked on comics

Still don't really care for superhero comics though. The shows and movies are great

But Image, man. Some of the best horror and sci-fi fiction I've read in a long time

Personally, I don't care about the big mainline Marvel/DC super hero comics because it's a lot like a soap opera in that too much to keep up with if one follows the issues as they come out. I have a crap ton of comics from working at conventions and attending drawing events.

For those cases, I prefer waiting for the inevitable Omnibus versions or just read the Wiki page something like The Walking Dead. However, I do think the new Ms.Marvel is pretty damn good even though I only read the first issue.

I prefer self-contained comics/graphic novels from smaller presses e.g. Seconds and Optic Nerve to name a few since I'm an aspiring comic artist. I checked out a few graphic novels last week and would definitely recommend Shoplifter by Michael Cho for something that is self-contained and easily accessible or anything by Adrian Tomine.

I don't like the comic medium... I hate a story being pieced up into parts that you get every other week, and I hate that books I liked get cancelled, so I stopped reading modern comics. I do like the classic "graphic novels" like Superman: Red Son, Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, etc

The top selling comic in a given month barely cracks 100K. Special crossover stuff like a Star Wars #1 will hit 250K, and then drop off the cliff on subsequent issues. Comics are not even close to mainstream.

All that to say that nobody gives a shit about comics, and that is coming from a guy who gives a shit about comics and purchases them. Paradox, I know. Comic properties...well, that is an entirely different can of worms. Go to a comic convention and see what people are focused on. It's definitely not the comics. Retailers barely make ends meet at those events. It's all about the movie/television properties.
