Does anyone else not give a shit about comics

I do but not Marvel and not DC...

I am an IDW kinda gal. Seriously, their shit has been incredibly strong these last few years, and I have so many IDW pulls at my comic shop, it's ridiculous.

Star Trek, Star Trek/Green Lantern, 3 Different current My Little Pony Comics, Jem, The Maxx...

IDW is awesome.

I'm not a fan myself but will watch one of them super hero movies once or twice a year.
Yes it seems to be every third or fourth thread but I just skip over them.

No, just pointing out that uniformed caps lock hurr durr isn't a particularly intelligent way to get that across.

Yes, It wasn't the most eloquent way to illustrate my point, but I felt it accurately reflected how I felt about the subject, thereby making it appropriate.

99.99% of comics are simply average. They are better when summarized but the stories when read are just super average. I can't bring myself to read them anymore because of this. May as well go ham in the teen section of the library.

99% of most things are average or worse. YOu always have to hunt down what is good, in any medium. Such is life.

I think I checked the New 52 Batman, Hawkeye, and some Daredevil before the Netflix show, but besides that, I don't care for Marvel/DC comics. Can't compare to how awesome Image is. Wytches, Black Science, Spread, Preacher, Lazarus. So many good and incredibly unique sci-fi and horror series

Tell me about it. I just hope this whole hip nerd fad runs its course soon because I've had enough of it. At least before you could ignore it but now its everywhere.

Read Matt Fraction & Mike Allred's FF

and tell me comics aren't awesome.

Are those children in swimsuits playing with monster adults? Looks like a story for pedos.

I find the comic universes to be pretty interesting but I just don't like comics themselves. Never did like comic books. I've tried reading many series but I never finish them, they just don't pull me in.

Videogames and movies that feature Marvel or DC comics superheroes though? I'm all in there.

All the characters have been rebooted, killed, or changed so many times over the course of recycling the same fifty characters that at this point it's hard to give a shit. Everything feels like fanfiction.

Preacher was vertigo wasn't it?

Also talking up Image without East of West, Manhattan Projects, Saga, Rat Queens, Orc Stain

Which is true but even the good stuff like Killing Joke (which is hyped up as amazing) or The Death of Superman are average. Comics are good at creating ideas but the implementation is always super meh.

Yes...so you can imagine I'm not the biggest fan of the mainstream film industry right now as a result.

I did like the Dark Knight trilogy however, but this was mostly because of Christopher Nolan.

I change the image but I don't know if your being sarcastic or not but its a beach party with fantastic four school.

I dont give a shit about the actual comics, but some of the movies and games turn out to be pt cool.

This. I read the comics occasionally, but as for DC/Marvel comics? Pass most of them. Too much continuity baggage to the level of a Soap Opera canon for me to bother.

Now independent/self-contained comics/manga? I'll check them out. Same with the comic book films.

I have never seen anyone hype up The Death of Superman as amazing. Killing Joke is but requires you have some investment and knowledge of the history/context of those characters.

Also not all comics are superhero comics, the best ones usually aren't.

The whole medium in general, or just specifically superhero? Because comics are just simply a way in which to tell sequential art, or to put it another way, glorified sets of words and pictures. There are many that cater to tastes other than traditional hero-worship. High-school drama, Adult romance, fantasy comedies, cute horror, underground autobiographical recounts and tales from far lands and farther occupations, etc...

Fantastic thread. You should also make one for anime and another one for videogames.

Uh I think you have this wrong

Comics are only about men wearing capes hitting each other.

I never gave a shit about comic books as a kid hence I don't give a shit about the comic book movies.

Same here. Comics, comic book heroes, comic book hero movies and TV shows and podcasts and conventions and costumes and god knows what else, etc.

I don't care, I've never cared, I don't understand the appeal of the movies. They're all the same bad, dumb movie just the costume and superpower changes.

I enjoyed the first Iron Man and first Spiderman for the popcorn action movies they were, but meh.

EDIT: As for the medium of comics beyond the superhero stuff, no, don't care for it.

I have never read comics and I probably never will, but I dig the MCU these days so I respect what they've built for me.

I'm just a cinematic kinda guy.

Far bigger on space opera though.

I think a lot of people that don't care about comics haven't read very many comics or have only tried to read Marvel/DC comics. I'm not saying all of them are that way but maybe the majority.

I think people that tend to try Marvel/DC comics and not feel it, then attempt to read indie comics from IDW/Dark Horse/various Image comics as well as old Mirage and even some rare Manga often enjoy themselves. If a story is great it should come across well in all mediums if it's accurately portrayed.

That's kinda like saying "Does anyone else not give a shit about movies" or "Does anyone else not give a shit about novels" or "Does anyone else not give a shit about television"
