Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

The hardest part of Ebrietas fight is the camera.

Nah camera is fine if you stay within close to mid range. That ridiculous charge is the real killer. Also is the Black Yahargul set the best armor to run NG+ with? I don't think any other set gives as high a DEF boost as it does.

I can't tell a difference in damage received when I fashion souls or use a high def armor.

The charge is the one attack in this game that feels extremely unfair. It seems that the tentacles can deal full damage even if you dodge the head.

Absolutely. It is almost worth trying to just get hit by the head instead of dodging the head only to be hit by the tentacles. Less Vials needed to get back to full then. The really odd thing is that dodging it as a summon is easy. Very very strange, and likely down to lag or something? As a summon, with all the aggro, I can dodge it every time. Alone or as the summoner, dodging at the same exact time, nope.

if you stay at close range and keep the camera locked on the body, as opposed to the head. the camera won't be an issue, nor will the charge attack. you'll never see the charge attack if you stay close. the only time you should run away from her is when the laser attack comes

With Eb, I never dawdled in front of her head. I would wait at mid range for an opening, get in a couple Thrust hits, and then back off to mid range or her side.

Never really found the charge to be an issue that way. If she did it, I could back up and punish. It was actually the attack that I most hoped would happen.

No camera issues that way either.

Does the loading time patch come today? About a week ago I got a message about downtime on the 23rd 9am GMT I think, I assume that is for the patch. I hope it's a short time for an update - my wife is on a late shift tonight and I'm at GMT +12.

I wonder what will be first, a new OT or the loading times patch?

Made 5 attempts on Ebrietas before I quit. Such a frustrating boss. Consistently get her to 1/4 health, before her DoT, Laser cannon spell, or flail spam catches me between pots.
Soul level: 65

Very easy +100 rapid poison res stunning deep sea rune in dungeon with glyph code 8jv9v6bc. It's in the first layer pre-layer bonus area. Can be reached in a couple of minutes. I have no idea what else is in this dungeon, and I'm going to bed now, but it might be useful for someone.

Well, what do you know. I finally had time to play some or, and aside from the stunning deep sea rune I told you about, this dungeon also has a 3% to all damage reduction great lake rune. Also in the first layer, but this time in the pre-boss bonus area. Easy loot is easy. You can get both runes within ten minutes.

Again, the glyph code is 8jv9v6bc.

I literally just found this rune. Who knows what more loot this dungeon holds deeper down?

Ebrietas..you suck!

I'm really struggling with this one. Any tips?
Mainly using Ludvigs Sword, some bolt paper and bucketloads of blood vials. Just can't seem to dodge anything this fucker throws at me. And dat charge

That blood echo glitch at the start of the game is great. Getting new characters to level 120 in under 2 hours and being able to set up the perfect stat build from the beginning of the game has made Bloodborne even more fun for me.

I've made 5 characters with varying builds to steam roll through the game at a later date and mess with PVP (which I never do in Souls games). Might have to make a few more before they inevitably patch it out.

Cannon that bitch 3 times to start the fight. Then get in close and jump around the back. When you are out of position after trying to get behind him/her run away instead and try again.

Oh and aim for the head on your cannon shots because at least once it will drop for a visceral attack so switch real quick to the two hander and stab.

Also (2nd edit) if you are far away and the charge happens I believe it only goes a certain disance so just unlock and run backwards or like another said if you are locked on the body once it starts to come down do 3 sidesteps. It should leave you on the side of it.

I have had the same issue and someone said if you just run (no dodge no dash) Ebrietas can't track you with the laser. I'm going to try it.

oh man that's reminds me did anybody else try to sneak up and get a back stab on it? only to find what you thought was the ass was the head! haha.

You just stripped the game of its main selling point: challenge.

Might as well just watch people play it on YouTube.

2H Ludwigs. Stay at mid range. Ebrietas charges. Back up. R2 -> L2 for like 3k damage. Repeat.

How are you dying? Where are you relative to the boss when the charge hits you?

I have had the same issue and someone said if you just run (no dodge no dash) Ebrietas can't track you with the laser. I'm going to try it.

Also confirmed. I just ran to the side when she did that attack.

I only needed about 3 tries with it and recorded my final try: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMHm4Lht1yU

I used the Tonritus for the bolt damage and tried to hit her head when possible. Stay at range or behind her to avoid getting hit.

So I haven't really made any progress after R
om
, for a few days now. Had the tonsil stone, and got ported to
The Lecture Building
, but didn't want to do that yet, so I went and completed the E
ileen
quest, and also got the
umbilical cord
from
Iosefka
.

Anyways, last night I used the
Cainhurst summons
and got to
Martyr L
. The hardest boss so far for me, but I recognize it's because I suck at viscerals, and parrying. Phase 1 is pretty easy. Been using the Knight's stuff I found for Blood resist. Should I be using something different? Level 64 Tonitrus+7, Ludwig +6. Too early?

I think had a good days progress....no boss encounters, just wandering around, getting more shortcuts opened, finding bonfires in new places. Killed the trio of hunters in wherever the fuck I am, picked up objects, upgraded my axe to +7 and levelled upto 73. I suspect I'll need to start hunting bosses now. Whose next up after ROM? So easy to forget which route is next, and what you have left to uncover. From certainly have some talented level designers!

So i just learned if u press in the right side of the touch pad, another inventory screen comes up whereyou can assign items to quick select. Putting all my bells and marks and notepad in there.

ML has a stupid trick. Without it, he's a strong contender for hardest boss in the game.
When he does his self buff around 75%, backstab him and he'll be staggerable for the rest of the fight.
I actually tried that once before I got fed up with the fight and looked it up, but apparently I botched it.

I presume he's already completed the game properly once before doing that, otherwise it is quite sad to completely ruin your first experience like that.

I've already done everything in the game and have a specific purpose in mind for these characters. I enjoy the game in a different way and don't see challenge as a main selling point.

So I finally beat the game for the third time and got my burial blade and I'm somewhat disappointed.

the range is deceptively short, swings are slow, and the first r1 comes in at such a high angle it lets enemies in packs slip through and fuck up your next swing
Blade of Mercy is fucking cool though. swapped out my threaded cane for that and did the last 5 bosses or so with it. also dashing around and fucking people up is a great feeling.

So... after getting my ass handed to me by
headless bloodletting beast
boss #2 in the final chalice i need some tips. I've read some online but they're no help, but for some reason the tips posted here always get me through.

So far... I've had no luck with the leg strat. He invariable stomps me into the ground. I am, however, getting pretty good with charging him while he shoots 'bullets'... i can even dodge his other long range attack and get a hit in, but eventually he comes marching at me with determination and i can't get him to do any long range attacks. I eventually get under his feet and stomped, or stuck on a wall, or whatever.

Need advice. He's brutal. lots of people just seem to hack his legs but... I'm just not seeing how that's even viable with those stomps.

that Hunter run in 12 minutes is insane. i didn't realize there was commentary, i watched it mute... but still amazing. I don't even think i could remember the route let alone accomplish it flawlessly and quickly.

i keep the seds and antidote there. couldn't imagine playing some sequences without it

Finally picked up the game again, got to vicar amelia (total pushover) Where do I go next?

There's a hint just inside the entrance to the cathedral, iirc.
Get the passcode from the skull behind VA, head out of the Cathedral and run forward until you get to the circular area with the two giants, then turn right and look for a path.
Alternatively you can look for optional areas to explore: exploration is always rewarding in this game, whether it's with immediate treasure or long-term knowledge.

EDIT: Apologies. The note I referenced isn't actually the one that's helpful, but the internet isn't helping me remember the location of the one I read...

Here's a transcription of the helpful note, if you'd rather have a hint instead of the answer I put in my Spoiler above:

A watchman of Byrgenwerth guards the gate with a password, the sacred adage of the Grand Cathedral."

Just starting NG+. I figure I will do all the NPC summons for fun. I only know of F
ather G for Cleric Beast and Alfred for BSB.

Are there any others?

i used the axe but this could work with ludwigs blade too, you position yourself to her side and you will be able to hit her head with vertical attacks-> stagger her -> visceral attack. when she casts the shield i go ham and use all my stamina hitting her head. She usually does her laser attack thing after so i back away from her, unlock camera and run like hell then turn and shoot her with the canon and attack her head again.

Whoever decided frenzy damage was a good debuff needs they're head checked oh and go f**k yourself Nightmare Mensis.

I actually really enjoyed that section. Sure, it was a gimmick, but I thought it was a nice detour to freshen up the gameplay a bit. It's not like it was very long.

I was dreading it when Brad (Giant Bomb) described it as a stealth section.

120 is way too high in this game for pvp. There's less stats so no need to go that high. Kind of sucks that as a level 100 I can get invaded/invade level 121 characters. It's all good, though, I'll roll with whatever I'm dealt.

I guess my best option is to sprint to the bell lady and take her out since I keep getting invaded taking the slow and measured approach.

The bolded is why it's not too high. The game has fewer attributes than previous games, but its scaling soft caps are higher, and every weapon scales with at least 2 attributes. And there's a health reduction on summoned.

The idea behind a meta level for PvP and such is twofold:

  1. It's a level with an attribute budget high enough that it makes the vast majority of builds viable (ie. close to max effectiveness).
  2. It's the lowest possible level at which further level ups within summoning range and their respective increases of attributes only represent a very marginal benefit.

Level 120 is closer to meeting those criteria than 100, thanks to the higher soft caps and all trick weapons scaling off multiple attributes.

The multiplayer in this game is bullshit. My friend and I have been trying to play together without any success. We are seven levels apart, in the same non-random chalice dungeon, with the same password and it's just not working.

Fuck this bullshit. Christ. It's 2015.

What's the best order for chalice dungeons. I've done all the ptheulmeru ones, hibtertombs and the first loan ailing. Fucked that abhorrent beast up. I have enough stuff for defiled. Do I just go there or carry on through lower loran.

I don't what the hell happened recently, I was cooping & invading when the game first launched, but for some reason they fucked that up after the first week, I tried cooping with my friend because she's a Souls noob & couldn't connect, I keep getting kicked out to the title screen.

Just re-rolled after platinuming on my first char, and I'm really struck by how wonderfully well crafted and directed the opening of the game is.

Its really apparent especially after doing multiple NG+ cycles and a ton of chalices that the real genius in the game isn't the stellar art-direction and atmosphere or even the brilliantly crafted fundamental mechanics, its how its all put together by Miyazaki.

After you've been through the game a lot and you have serious stockpiles of stuff its easy to be blase about the placement of everything, whereas starting over its super-important as is the relative risk/reward of any given path.

hmm, I'm always too far away when he starts that animation. Gonna try to stay close, thanks.

I think the differing opinions on difficulty of this game are a low point in an otherwise system seller game.

Obviously people duped and cheated early on, being able to breeze through the game.

Then we have being able to co-op a boss on your first try (without the game needing you to have solo'd it first).

And also the bug where the boss becomes a statue with limited or in some cases, no attacks.

I've been ringing the small bell to help people all week and either the game bugs in co-op or their console has been on forever to bug the AI. I've seen Wet Nurse, Shadows, Vicar and the Witch all bugged numerous times. Wet Nurse seems to bug often in co-op. It stays in the centre and does a few spin attacks and that's it.

Oh and someone mentioned the game saves getting 'heavy' through multiple play throughs. I have to agree. I'm now getting some huge frame drops in certain areas. Killing the birds at the first lamp in the Woods makes the game go into almost slow mo. The audio stutters near the fires in the Woods and Old Yharnam are a concern too.

The load times have never bothered me but the performance and bugs will hopefully be addressed in this upcoming patch or a future one.

Time to enter the shithole that is the Defiled chalice.
