The Japanese media reported, Daisy Ridley and Kathleen Kennedy will visit Japan in April 30, to attend "Kick Off Meeting" event starting the TFA world campaign. They decided to start the campaign in Japan due to the fact that Star Wars was inspired by Kurosawa Akira's The Hidden Fortress. The event will be held in TOHO Cinemas, Roppongi Hills and includes TFA's first official press conference and TFA's special footage screening. Press from other countries will also attend the event. This will be the first time they answer questions from the press related to TFA

sweet!

So, what are the chances that we'll see an Obi/Yoda force ghost appearance somewhere in the trilogy? I mean, its not like they wouldn't still be around, the empire clearly didn't disappear post ROTJ and they might have more to teach Luke (like how to turn into a force ghost himself.)

I would expect that Luke is still in communication with them.... or he will make light of the fact that he is not in communication with them any more, for whatever reason.

Whether or not we'd see them on screen, your guess is as good as mine.

It would be cool if Luke sees and hears them while the other characters and the audience don't. I'm sure McGregor would be believable as old Ben but I think it would be distracting in the context of this episode.

Plus, if Yoda and Obi-Wan are shown, there's no reason Anakin shouldn't also appear. But Abrams obviously won't go there...

I hope they do another docu film like for Episode 1. While in retrospect it's become a comedy and I know everyone loves the Rick gifs, but when it came out, when I still liked Episode 1 and believed in the new trilogy, it was an awesome behind the scenes view of Lucas returning to Star Wars. I probably watched it three, four times.

Or even better, a long series of appendices like LOTR/Hobbit on the making.

Ian Glenn would be an awesome middle aged Obi-Wan.

He has the look AND the voice. He has that same warble that Guinness had. I could easily see him saying "scum and villainy".

Star Wars Anthology : Obi-Wan

... set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. MAKE IT SO!

... I so just used a Star-Trek quote.

I have no doubt Ewan will play Obi-Wan again. It may be in his own spinoff or it may be a smaller role in a different spinoff, but it will happen.

I dont know him and I cant look up what his voice sounds like right now, but taking a look at a couple pics, he certainly looks the part. Easily a good cross between Ewan and Alec.

I doubt it. Unsurprisingly people are over thinking this. It's just the words from ROTJ with one line moved to the end.

I heard somewhere they actually re-used the audio directly from ROTJ too, they didn't have Hamill re-read them for this trailer, is that true? I could have sworn it sounded like a new delivery.

EDIT : Sorry, didn't see this, that explains it.

They did rerecord the lines but that new recording isn't played verbatim in the teaser:

I'm SO excited to find out who he's talking to with that line, even if it's not delivered in the movie the clear implication is that there's a new generation of force sensitive(s) in the Skywalker line (which, of course there is) . Is it Luke's offspring or Leia's though?

I've lost all cynicism towards this movie, I don't have HUGE expectations but I now have no doubt that I'll enjoy it.

"Chewie, we're home."

Hot DAMN.

The lines spoken was lifted from ROTJ, however, the reverb heard after is from his new recordings.

He definitely has the look and really does sound like a young Alec Guinness. His tone and timing is almost there, he would just need a bit more emphasis on certain words.

I mean, he sounds even MORE like Alec outside of GOT:

The lines may be taken from ROTJ, but the way they're used in the trailer are definitely meant to give the feeling that Luke is talking to someone new.

I wonder, back in 2005, if people thought Ewan McGregor was going to say the lines from A New Hope to someone in Revenge of the Sith.

Or if people think Obi-Wan is going to show up in Rogue One because there's dialog from him in there.

It's just using pre-existing dialog to evoke a specific emotion/mood, no different from what was happening with the score on that trailer, which featured new recordings of old music. That dialog (and that music) are hints towards the general feeling/idea of the movie, but not direct quotes from what's actually going into the thing.

It's a stylistic choice made to maximize your emotional reaction to the footage you're looking at, even if you don't quite realize why you're feeling it. The dialog & the music are chosen to serve that purpose, and the shit worked

I don't see anyone thinking any of that.

Even getting the nostalgia out of my system after watching that trailer over 100 times, its one of the best teasers I've seen yet. Evokes everything about Star Wars that people are interested in.

I don't see anyone thinking any of that.

There's been pages of posts in this thread (that seem to come up at steady intervals every 10 pages or so) wondering who Luke is talking to in the trailer and what the context of the dialog is. We already know who he is talking to: Leia. In Return of the Jedi.

It really has become the most debated/analyzed/argued over scene in Star Wars in record time.

(also one of the single worst scenes in all of Star Wars, so the fact the dialog has been reclaimed and made a vital part of the goodwill building for the new movie is really cool. It's a nice example of Abrams' skill at repurposing old shit and making it feel fresh again)

hey... wait a minute...

...we're talking about the TRAILER again!

This might be a teeny bit different considering that Alec Guinness was already dead. I dont think anybody is expecting a surprise comeback from him.

Mark is still alive, well, and appearing in this movie. Not only have they chopped and rearranged the dialogue, they've treated the recording so that it sounds like more modern recording quality.

I dont blame people for getting confused.

The final part with "You have that power too" is new. It's not part of Jedi.

I assume he is talking to one of the kids.

No it's from Jedi, too. They just rearranged it. Original went something like.:

Leia: You have a power I dont understand and could never have.
Luke: Youre wrong. You have that power, too.

Luke: Blah blah...and my sister has it.

That's when he stares her down until she figures it out.

Hot DAMN.

They recorded it a week before the trailer. I think they had him record the lines just for the trailer, I don't think he says them in the movie.

Haha NO IT'S NOT. We've been over this like a dozen times in the thread at this point.

Me from page 15:
Guys, that dialog is 100% verbatim the scene from Return of the Jedi. It's not new dialog, it's not an impersonator, it's not old Hamill pitched up to sound young. It's just the dialog re-edited from Jedi. The "You have that power too" comes before the rest of it originally.

Looking back in the thread, the Dialog debate is basically the very first thing that starts once the initial 6-7 pages of "HOLY SHIT" started to wear off.

It's funny, you can see me go from "It's the exact same dialog" to "maybe they went back to old stems and got a different adr take" to "maybe he DID re-record it." The hyper-focused swirl on that dialog got me all caught up.

I also think it's possible Hamill got the order fucked up when he was on the panel, and that his new recording IS what's used, and they used the original ADR as the reverb effect (which a bunch of people were CERTAIN was Kylo Ren speaking modified dialog)

It was not a memorable moment/line in ROTJ, but I doubt people will be forgetting it for a while now.

It was not a memorable moment/line in ROTJ (not particularly), but I doubt people will be forgetting it for a while now.

It works perfect in the context of the trailer and complimentary imagery, and the re-edit with the last line gives the idea of a new force user in the new film. But it's also revealed that A LOT of people have forgotten specifics of the old films too :P

Well, I can't blame people not remembering it. It wasn't one of the film's best moments :P

But to be fair, a lot of people did remember it.
