I have several times on here in the past, not to much agreement but this show especially in the later seasons confirm my opinions of why Lucas wrote the Jedi in the very flawed manner in which he did, and the manner in which he was scrutinized for. I'll expand on it for you both later in more detail.
Haven't watched any clone wars except for a bit of the first 2d one and you know, maybe the writers gave a good spin on the lifeless creepy weirdos that Lucas did by making them actually being near sighted and complacient, making the Jedi downfall being their own undoing instead of actual outside interference.

And that's neat on the writers for pulling it off especially when you have to base it off such abhorrent material, but it doesn't make George a genius just because some other guys could pull it off

Now that Ewan is joining the Disney family for the upcoming live action Beauty and the Beast film, maybe we're just one tiny step closer to that Obi-Wan spinoff. ;)

Aww the Simon Pegg and Nick Frost dream is dead.

But you know what I would love an anthology film of Ben Kenobi set after episode 3. I'm a big fan of McGregor and I think he was a great cast to play a young Alec Guinness. Give Ewan a better director than Lucas and we could get something amazing.

I mean, it's reasonable to assume that there was a trade off behind the scenes.
"Yeah, we will do an Obi-Wan movie, but you have to star in two of these other movies."

Why would they ask him to return, but then hold it over his head to do two other roles... that doesn't make sense.

I really need a loose Seven Samurai or Yojimbo movie with Jedi(s) in it. I think it would be such a great idea. Would just be perfect to have Obi in it.

The universe has room for a lot of interesting stuff. It's what's most exciting about spin off movies. I hope they leave the jedis for the main movies (or that they're played down) and try different stuff for the spin offs. The first one already seems a bit promising, even though it's a prequel of sorts.

The prequel trilogy was missing that feeling of desperation and hopelessness. I like my heroes in Star Wars in the trenches. Empire is a dark film and it feels right.

It definitely felt hopeless :P

It doesn't. I'm baselessly speculating. However, package deals for actors when they are bargaining isn't unheard of.
Maybe he went to them? I don't know. Why be lumiere? Honestly.

Just the way you say it. It's like McGregor has to convince them to give him an anthology movie. As a result they oblige but only if he does other roles for them. Which doesn't really do them any positives or negatives unless he takes pay cuts on those other roles or the anthology role.

One thing I know is McGregor was really passionate about getting into the character of Obi-wan and has expressed jubilant interest in reprising his role.

I want this so bad to happen. Ewan McGregor is a great actor.

The early rumor was
that it was a black female
I don't think that is true though.

I guess Old Ben could have gotten busy with some high melanin. In terms of movie direction it would make more sense to make the heir more readily identifiable as being Obi-wans heir though. Gleeson seems like the perfect fit. Really crosses all the t's and dots all the i's.

So quick question regarding empires.

How come Vader doesn't realize Leia is a Skywalker? I mean I get that in A new hope it was never planned for Leia and Luke to be related but it's weird he doesn't care about her in empires.

Or maybe he did and ignored it? Idk

He did not know he had a daughter. He only thought he had one offspring, so it wasn't like he was looking.

The Jedi were in control for the most part in the prequels until the last half hour of episode 3. The Jedi were in the driver seats more or less. That's a stark contrast to a small band of rebels fighting the Empire.
No, I mean the movies were desperately, hopelessly bad.

Dooku can hardly be compared to the Fetts or Maul. They spend so much time talking up Dooku. On how he was a great jedi master. Who left to essentially walk the middle path. But you learn he's left for the Dark Side, and has replaced Maul. Unlike Maul, Dooku takes a full on political role. He is the Emissary of Palpatine while Palpatine can't do much anything else than long conning the Republic Senate.

Honestly for how shit AOTC was, Dooku's role was pretty damn interesting. Played by none other than Christopher Lee. Before we even got to see his neat lightsaber and fighting style, he was already the fascinating and powerful figure.

Dooku is probably the only thing about that film that I really like.

Yeah but the problem is this. That COULD have been interesting, but they do next to nothing with it.

-Him being an ex-Jedi, barely factors into the films at all.
-Him being Qui Gon's old master-is brought up once or twice, but otherwise also has no bearing on the films.
-Him as a political leader-they TALK about it (and that's these movies problem in general, telling and no showing), but we get to see basically nothing with that either.
-He's introduced way too late and gets too little screentime.
-Etc.

Basically the IDEA behind Dooku's character was interesting. But the execution, at least in the films, was piss poor.

I remember making basically this exact post in an older SW thread. Dooku is criminally under-represented in AotC.

The Japanese media reported, Daisy Ridley and Kathleen Kennedy will visit Japan in April 30, to attend "Kick Off Meeting" event starting the TFA world campaign. They decided to start the campaign in Japan due to the fact that Star Wars was inspired by Kurosawa Akira's The Hidden Fortress. The event will be held in TOHO Cinemas, Roppongi Hills and includes TFA's first official press conference and TFA's special footage screening. Press from other countries will also attend the event. This will be the first time they answer questions from the press related to TFA

Word.

If anything, Dooku should have been the PT's Vader character.

On a separate note, they should have never shown Anakin becoming Vader or being named Vader. Totally pisses all over the Ep V reveal.

God damnit, that feeling when you run into a spoiler by mistake :|

Why internet?

True. Dooku should've been introduced in Episode 1. Set up as a semi-villain doing Sidious his dirty work. Make Qui-Gonn and Dooku have several scenes together. Where both of them (despite them being a Jedi and Sith) show respect to each other. At the end of 1, they should have a dual where the former Master (Dooku) kills Qui-Gonn.

He should've been killed in part 3. Realising his mistake to ally himself with Sidious. Foreseeing Anakin turning into Vader and REALLY bringing balance to the Force. Allowing himself to be killed.

O well. Had so much potential.

So who do most people think Luke is talking to? Rey later in the movie? His own son/daughter? Rey who is his daughter?

Will he even say those lines in the movie proper? He'd be reusing the exact same lines from ROTJ.

I mean, the Star Wars movies always had recurring lines, but this is 5-6 full sentences.

doesn't he stop at " my sister has it " in RotJ. He emphasizes the " sister " part to make it obvious to Leia who he is talking about

the " and YOU have that power too " is added and new I believe.

You're wrong, Leia. You have that power too. In time you'll learn to
use it as I have. The Force is strong in my family. My father has
it...I have it...and...my sister has it.

Leia stares into his eyes. What she sees there frightens her. But she
doesn't draw away. She begins to understand.

thats the line from the script. so its not an exact copy of what he says, kind of a rearranging.

It's not new ... He says "You have that power too" ...

Leia : Luke, don't talk that way. You have a power I don't understand and could never have. Luke Skywalker: You're wrong, Leia. You have that power too.

He DID re-record the same lines he spoke in ROTJ. But this time it was for the sake of the echo. The lines give a hint that there's another Force user. Someone close to the OT cast perhaps? We'll know soon enough.

right yeah, its basically the same thing just rearranged. But what, you think he's talking to Leia again when he says, " and YOU have that power too "? :P

The lines are re-arranged for the trailer.

The way they used it in the trailer shows Vader (my father has it), Luke (i have it), Leia (my sister has it) and then it's left up to us to figure out who the other Force user is (you have that power too).

I love how J.J creates so much confusion just with those lines.

He can't be talking to rey as he says "my sister".

If he was talking to Rey, then he would've said "your mother has it". Isn't rey supposed to be solo and leias kid? Does she know she is their kid?

Unless it is two different conversations cut together I.e. The first part he is talking to someone else, then the "you have it too" is to rey.

i personally think Rey is the new Luke, as she seems to have that Jedi aura about her from what we have seen so far. The most telling scene is when she is running away from the Tie Fighter and Finn is in the background trying hard to keep up. Rey has the same origin-style as Luke did, being on Jakku, working the fields ( from what it looked like in the first teaser ), and just has that ' look '. I'm just not set on who's bloodline Rey is. Han/Leia or a child of Luke. I'm leaning toward Han/Leia child though.

Maybe he's talking to the audience lol

I kinda wish they would have used a different scene for one or two of his clips. It's weird seeing almost the same facial expression every time he's in the trailers.

It's more that they don't want to give away later scenes from the movie I suspect, pretty much everything shown is from the first part of movie. Fom following the spoilers closely nearly every single scene shown this trailer, including all the Boyega scenes takes place in what looks to be just the first half hour or so of the film.

In which he looks pretty stressed out. ;) Not much to work with when limiting the material shown just to the beginning of the film.

I doubt it. Unsurprisingly people are over thinking this. It's just the words from ROTJ with one line moved to the end.

Nice van Gaal avatar :)

But, you are right. The lines spoken in the trailer are used in a symbolic way.

Isn't the first time a Star Wars trailer contained lines from previous movies. In the Star Wars : Rogue One trailer they used Obi-Wan's lines from ANH. Doesn't mean he's or the lines are used.

Still, I'm fucking stoked as fuck that we are getting a new Star Wars movie.

Well it IS the first time, since the Rogue One teaser was released after this TFA teaser :p

However I think one of the teasers for The Phantom Menace had Darth Maul speak lines that aren't in the actual movie (and that don't seem to be adressed to anyone specific).

Plus if they were re-recorded lines I imagine it'd have been changed to "my father had it" rather than "my father has it".

They did rerecord the lines but that new recording isn't played verbatim in the teaser:

According to an interview with Hamill at "Star Wars Celebration," he rerecorded the famous dialogue from “Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi” a week before the trailer’s debut. However, not even he could figure out which version of his voice ended up in the final trailer.

It turns out it was a little bit of both.

"We used the original track and then we used what you recorded last week as reverb," Abrams told Hamill.

"There's a slight delay," Hamill explained. "So the delay is the new lines I recorded."

They also used Obi Wan's lines in the ROTS teaser. I guess that was 10 years ago, now, but when Luke spoke in the new TFA teaser I instantly recognized it as the same trick.
