Well, I can't blame people not remembering it. It wasn't one of the film's best moments
But to be fair, a lot of people did remember it.
Haha NO IT'S NOT. We've been over this like a dozen times in the thread at this point.
Me from page 15:
I don't blame them for forgetting that scene at all. It's a fuckin' turd, really. Fisher's work in particular. Not that Ford does any better when he comes in, either. Everything about that scene is just ass, for the most part. The dialogue is blah, the scene doesn't seem to make any sort of sense considering who any of these people are (Why is Han acting the way he's acting, why is Leia doing THAT in response to the knowledge she's related to the man who physically forced her to watch her planet explode, etc. etc.)
Basically, aside from the reclamation of Luke's lines in this trailer, the only saving grace of the entire sequence is Williams' Brother & Sister cue playing behind it.
I haven't looked at this thread in days. I can't believe people are still debating over a verifiable fact about the voice over.

So, this is the best reaction video I've seen so far - the only knock is that it doesn't have Roderick Vonhögen's reaction included in it - but then again, that one's probably best seen all by itself.

NeoGAF should do their own reaction mashup![]()
Mine would have been embarrassing as hell because I lost total control over my emotions. I didn't do cartwheels or whip it out or anything but I was a quivering mess.
Heh, should we try to organize a "GAF REACTS" for when Trailer #1 finally drops?
Do you think anyone here has the level of patience to wait long enough to set up the camera to start recording before immediately mashing the play button?
Ian Glenn would be an awesome middle aged Obi-Wan.
He has the look AND the voice. He has that same warble that Guinness had. I could easily see him saying "scum and villainy".

If I made a reaction video it would be boring. I just watch too. The reaction is more internal![]()

I actually sat here with my mouth open in disbelief. I didn't want to say anything because i have been banned for lesser things.
The guy in the top left has seen some shit.
Holy shit @ how the entire group explodes with Han.
Man watching this made me realize I'm probably gonna have a hard time containing myself in the theater when this comes out.
I mean its been 32 years since Ep6 came out. I was 3 years from being born but I grew up with original edition OT trilogy. Gonna be an amazing mix of emotions seeing the original cast again, and I never thought I'd EVER see the future of Star Wars past Ep6.
What a time to be a Star Wars fan!

I'm rewatching AOTC (lol), and I was thinking, when the bugs are about to attck Padme in her sleep and Anakin comes rushing and pulls his lightsaber to kill them, what if padme had jumped up started that second? Her face was so close to the lightsaber even when she was asleep that a small movement would have killed her. Heck, even her reaction was delayed to make the moment work. She rose up after Anakin had killed them. Why didn't Ankin use the force instead? Poor judgement.
It's weird because I grew up with Star Wars but it wasn't until about 1997 when it was all over the place again that I really became a fan.
I mean, I was old enough to be born before Empire - I watched Empire on Betamax, I had a bunch of figures handed down to me from my uncle (only one vehicle, the little orange egg transports from Bespin), I remember sending off for an R2D2 toy in like 1983 from cereal boxes. I didn't see them all until 1991 or 92 and I barely remember them since we were too busy exploring our uncle's den while the movies were playing on TV. I didn't really SEE them until 1993 when I sat down and watched them in the new "digitally enhanced" versions that year. That's when I realized Han survived Empire.
Then 97 came and I remember buying my first action figures (classic Obi-wan, Vader, Yoda and Boba Fett) and getting the SE, and buying Pepsi and Mountain Dew for the collector's cans that I realized I truly loved the franchise.
I know! Back when the OT was all we had, I didnt know if they would ever actually make the movies George hinted at. I actually found it unlikely.
Then once they announces the PT, I thought that maybe they would make the PT and then make the ST immediately afterward.
But all the backlash after the PT made me figure that George was going to take his ball and go home. Who would want to keep going after the way fans treated him?
Instead he gave the ball to someone else and let them keep playing! Never thought this day would come, I seriously thought he'd keep a deathgrip on the franchise until his death, then at that time someone else would finally get the rights.
Regarding an Obi-Wan spinoff, correct me if I'm wrong but they never explained how Obi-Wan found out that Anakin was alive and was Vader, did they?
Anakin become Darth Vader before the volcano battle. If I recall correctly, Obi-Wan saw a hologram where Sidious calls Anakin "Vader".

It's wierd being 30 and thinking "these characters have never been in a new piece of footage on screen in my lifetime".Man watching this made me realize I'm probably gonna have a hard time containing myself in the theater when this comes out.

Either it's luke speaking to his son, and he is referring to Anakins ghost when he says has it
Or
my own crazy fan theory
Luke is Narrating to us the audience a Note/Letter he is reading, which written by his son (domhall gleeson) the note is handed to him by rey who is worried by the disappearance of her brother. In this note the speech on the trailer how refers to.
My Father HAS it (luke)
I have it (lukes son)
My sister has it (rey)
And now you have it (kylo ren who turns out to be a solo? Who would be cousin with lukes son)
Lukes son has been keeping in contact with kylo ren because he is cousin, only when we first meet him he goes by the surname of solo not Kylo Ren yet, rey has seen/felt Darkness in Kylo Ren, and she is scared of him and tries to keep her brother away feom him, only her brother goes searchig for him, maybe it's Kylo Ren, searching through the woods (like we see in trailer one) searching for lukes son/reys brother.
Or it's just reused dialogue from Return of the Jedi.
Eurgh more Skywalker family problems.![]()
Well, they were about Luke, and then later about his father, so of course the justification became that Star Wars is about the Skywalkers. They're the central characters of the mainline films.
There's been pages of posts in this thread (that seem to come up at steady intervals every 10 pages or so) wondering who Luke is talking to in the trailer and what the context of the dialog is. We already know who he is talking to: Leia. In Return of the Jedi.
I don't think it necessarily means the successor is a Skywalker. Obviously it could be so. But those lines could be interpreted just as "the power was in my family, and you have it too".Right, so ask yourself: WHY are those lines being re-used here? The dialogue wasn't chosen haphazardly just because it sounds nice. The point is to allude to the idea of a new Jedi successor, possibly a new Skywalker descendant. That it ends on the line, "You have that power too" -- deliberately reordered from the original take in ROTJ -- I think hammers home what message they're trying to get across here.
I'm not saying the voiceover here is brand new, or that Hamill will say those lines again when he meets Finn or Rey or whoever the new Luke ends up being. But I don't think there was no reason behind JJ using those lines, and re-ordered in that way, for this trailer.
Oh I'm aware of why they used this dialog in this order:Right, so ask yourself: WHY are those lines being re-used here? The dialogue wasn't chosen haphazardly just because it sounds nice. It works perfect in the context of the trailer and complimentary imagery, and the re-edit with the last line gives the idea of a new force user in the new film.

Could we maybe change the subject?
I'd love to discuss possibilities for whatever new alien main cast member is introduced. Live action vs. cg, English speaking, subs or just noises that the audience can understand based on how others respond, visual design and characterization, etc.
I've given a lot of thought to why Chewbacca was a fundamentally better character, on a conceptual level, than most of the newer aliens, and what possible lessons should be taken from him when constructing a new alien party member. Would love to hear other opinions on the matter.
