Shoot the Core! - Gaf Shoot ‘em Up (aka Shooter/SHMUP) Reference Thread

Good to know. I found it kind of annoying that fans of the game who originally bought it on 360 got the shaft. Nice that they will be equal games now.

Re-posting from the other thread since I don't see a lot of people here over there and vice versa.

Sky Force is releasing on April 30th. One of the better if not the best Shmup on iOS. It's definitely the most popular. It has been redone without any microtransactions or stamina and graphics have been updated.

Poland putting out a stellar Shmup. Never would have though.

I love it on iPad, great game. I'd never go as far as saying Sky Force 2014 is even close to being the best shmup on iOS (not with stuff like Raiden Legacy, Cave's releases and so on) but it's up there with the greats; the hook is in beating your friends' progress (which is visible in-game similar to Temple Run) so the fact SF14 was F2P benefited the game in having lots of players; also the upgrades and missions with objectives based system to unlock the levels and difficulty progression meant it is pretty different from your usual shmup, which is why the microtransactions never bothered me, I'd even argue that it made for a better game since credit feeding wasn't an option and made you stay focused every time you played. I only paid the $2 to remove the ads forever and double the stars you earned. Visually it was spectacular on iPad Mini 2 and it still is. Definitely one to buy.

Wow that's really cool.
Always wondered why Deathsmiles 2 was the only game to get this kinda release.

Hopefully my 360 still works. The disc-drive is gone but it still played XBLA/GoD stuff last time I tried it.

Deathsmiles 2 wasn't the only one, Under Defeat HD was released for NA market in the same manner last year.

Bought Sky Force today. It's looking pretty good on the PC. It's the first Shmup I've played at 120fps. Can't wait to upgrade my ship. Lossless screenshot of the game at 1440p:

Has anyone played Project Root yet? Came out on PS4/Vita yesterday, looks fun.

EDIT: Never mind, all the reviews seem to be middling to bad. Gonna pass on it.

I think that was only on 360, it got a physical release on the PS3. Also wasn't Deathsmiles 2 just the Japanese version dumped on the US games on demand? I'm assuming they translated Under Defeat as it got a real release on the PS3.

Am I hearing right that Under Defeat HD on PS3 has more slowdown than the original version? It felt like it was WAY more than any arcade game should have (near constant, not just when complex patterns are on screen). I can't bring myself to open my 360 limited edition just for better performance, but I was wondering if the base game is better than the PS3 port.

Shooting Love 200X hits NA/EU X360 Games on Demand today! $19.99.

How do digital games work on 360 anyway, are regions still relevant? I have a Japanese 360. Not sure how many shmups are on XBLA for US or Japan anyway though. (Almost) all games having a digital version this gen is how last gen should have been.

Games on Demand often have similar regional restrictions to their physical equivalents if they exist, but I think there's an added layer of IP check for region locked games. Buying Japanese Raiden IV in the U.S. from the Japanese marketplace to my JP console was an obnoxious process as the game wouldn't purchase and download without me using a Japanese VPN.

Shooting Love seems totally region free though. It downloaded and plays fine on my JP console with no VPN involved.

It looks interesting enough.
I'm not sure what to think about enemy ships that are the same color as the player's ship though.

Is the Raiden 4 edition on ps3 worth getting if I already own the 360 copy? I know it's on sale but if it doesn't add much I'd rather just play it on my 360.

I finally got ahold of Ginga Force and Eschatos. This is a very cool package with a feel of its own to it.

Going to need to check a translation guide constantly for Ginga Force, but it's said to be very rewarding by those who had the patience.

It's still on the way, it's just taking a lot longer than expected because the only thing left to be completed has to be done by me, and I've been sidetracked by other work that keeps popping up. I'm working on it as fast as I can, I know you're excited for it and I want to get it completed as soon as possible.

Good news, I was starting to get worried.
Thanks for the update.

I see Ketsui PS3 in Play-Asia's daily sale alert list and start freaking out. Then I look at the price and it's $51.99.

God dammit Play-Asia.

If that's the cheapest it is right now you should go for it!

When I got the PS3 version all I could think about was "man, I wish I had imported a J360 and this years ago."

I have popped that game once on my PS3. So much to play these days.

Ok, bought. Reminds me of Raptor, which was awesome.
Well, too bad this is nothing like Raptor.
In fact, while pretty, the game is easy, bland and repetitive.
The multiple goals mean you have to replay a level 3-4 times to proceed, maybe even "farm" *gasp*

Sorry guys, I am sure a lot of effort went into this.

it's worth $51. not just because it's ketsui, but it's one of the better cave ports in port quality, and has one of the best cave arrange modes, so you're actually getting two games.

Have there been any new SHUMPS on XBLA over the past year or two? I'm trying to figure out how to burn my last $30.

Have:

Deathsmiles
Radiant Silvergun
Trouble Witches Neo
Guwange
Bangai-O
Ikaruga
Rez
Triggerheart Exelica

Thinking:
Raystorm HD
Strania
Omega 5?

Are there something better or something I'm not thinking about besides those 3? It's hard to find more recent lists so not sure if there's something else I should be looking at.

Thanks!

Raystorm is a bad port...stay away.
Strania is awesome if you like weapon-changing shooters...two games with the DLC.
Omega 5 is rather boring.

Also, Shooting Love came out last month for 20 dollars.

I don't see shooting love, when I click Browse?

What's bad about Raystorm?

Edit: Weird, could only find it by actually searching.
