Is anyone getting the really subtle microstutter? Sorta like demonstrated in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7C6ZapQJ0_8

It's most noticeable when panning/moving the camera. My FPS shows 60 constantly and it still happens. I've tried pretty much everything from lowering all my settings down to the lowest possible and it still happens.

specs:
i5-4670k
GTX 970
8 GB ram

Just wondering if anyone here has found a solution. Googling has got me nowhere.

I seem to be crashing during the Blitz Play mission, on the way to Westons house.

Event viewer shows it's a Nvidia driver crash and the Launcher.log file show "Device Lost"

It's repeatable though, so it appears to be something with the game causing the driver to crash.

It's a really common crash. I fixed it by re-enabling the landing page. Other people reported deleting some of the config files and restarting (which regenerates the files) fixed it for them when I went looking.

If you're using the in-game vsync, it was also giving me a stutter every second or so no matter what I did. I corrected it by disabling all in-game vsync and forcing it through my Nvidia drivers. No triple buffering that way but the stutter was annoying me more.

A G-Sync monitor would probably correct it as well.

Thanks. I'll try that. I'm pretty sure I've tinkered with the in game vsync already. I have my fps limit set to 60 and I get a constant 60 fps on my settings as it is. I've read in a couple of other forums that people with G sync also get this at 60 fps. I'll mess with the Nvidia control panel a bit, hopefully that solves this. There's also some talk of a memory leak..not sure how accurate that is though.

raw mouse input causes stutter when panning around. Direct input helps(but doesnt completely fix it). Extended distance scaling also causes problems

So it seems that three settings absolutely trash performance (these settings effectively halve the framerate in certain areas):

Extended distance scaling
Ultra grass
Anything above high shadows

Currently on a GTX 970 (factory OC version from MSI), I5 4690K, 8 gb of RAM. Current res is at 1080p. Current FPS is 55-60 with Grass at high, no extended distance scaling, and high shadows (also with softest), 2x MSAA. Everything else is at max.

Are our single 980 folks able to crank those settings up to max at 1080p and lock it at 60, or are these the settings that we'll probably have to brute force or use cards 4 generations ahead to max it out?

i have a titan x at 1080p and i have extended distance scaling turned off, grass at high, but shadows very high. i also have high res shadows off. with msaa 4x the worst drops ive seen in grassy areas is low 50s.

My microstutter was caused by the game detecting the monitor as 59Hz, so you lose a frame a second. Stand still and pan the screen slowly, if it stutters once a second thats your prob.

Used CRU to force the only detailed res as 1920x1080x60Hz fixed it for me, buttery smooth stutter gone

How well do you folks think my PC will run it?

CPU: 4770k (not overclocked... yet)
GPU: HD 7870
Windows 8.1
ASRock Fatal1ty Z87 Killer motherboard

Could I run it near max settings? How close can I get?

You can cut a lot and get 60 fps with dips to the 30s...not ideal. I run an old i5 2400 and a 7870 Tahiti Le. I run very high textures everything else high, softer shadows and no advanced options. I locked it at 30fps no dips. Looks and plays great.

Either AMD's drivers are in the shitter (most likely) or my 7970 is starting to die. I get artifacts, shimmer, weird shadow issues, texture pop in, low res textures, micro stutter, etc. It's really making me mad.

I have my PC connected to a Sony TV via HDMI and have this same 59hz issue, tho when I tried to use CRU it made the connection HDMI to DVI and i lost the sound. Can you post exact steps on how to use this please? Im using MSI GTX 970

My game starting crashing when firing out of cars. Then I noticed that it only happened after throwing grenades/stickies. Then I noticed it is a wide spread problem. Then I noticed that enabling the landing page again fixes the bug. Strange!

Got a pc setup question... anyone willing to help?
We can try :p

Guys is there a way to turn off the chromatic aberration? It's really obvious sometimes.

Also it's confirmed that ambient occlusion does nothing yet right? Still waiting for the fix... Game should look pretty amazing once it works.

I have a PC that is almost exactly the minimum requirements (save for my graphics card being a 660). Game runs alright, but framerate starts to tank a bit when driving at speed. So I've ordered some extra RAM hoping for a cheap fix, to take my system up to 8GB.

Going from 4 to 8 has made a huuuge difference for a lot of people (I suppose this assumes your GPU is definitely up to scratch, so I'm not sure what will happen for you). Apparently 16 is optimal (so that makes me feel better for buying 16gb ram last year).

A lot of people wonder why they have the same GPU as others but completely different performance. Your performance in this game is very dependent on not just your GPU, but your ram and cpu as well.

ok if I am looking to set up a mac workstation... any advice on where to start? MAcbook Pro15"?

What does this workstation need to do? What programs? What tasks?

A laptop as a workstation doesht make sense unless you define work as casual video editing or writing essays etc.

My GPU is a GTX660, so it's well above the minimum spec. My CPU is an issue (Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz), but that is too expensive to fix for me at the moment.

The Nvidia guide says it doesn't do anything

It's possible working on Ultra only is a bug, or certain cards are having issues with it being disabled entirely. But there are people who are able to get it to work.

So got my 970 through yesterday replacing my old HD 7850... but now I'm getting a tonne of crashes in game.

The picture will freeze, sound and music will continue, and my second screen goes completely black. Anyone know a way around it?

With my GTX 970, stock i5 2500k, and 8GB of RAM I'm currently getting 50-60 while driving and a little better than that on foot. Settings are a mix of high and very high, all the advanced options off except for long shadows. Does this sound about normal normal? Any go-to settings to turn down if I really want better performance in the city?

turn off Long Shadows, you don't even notice it

Read the official Nvidia guide on geforce.com

After the last few patches I seem to be getting crashes eventually like after 1-2 hours of gameplay, with the GTA5.exe process crashing with the GFX_D3D_INIT error yet my temps seem to be perfectly fine. Anyone else getting this? Can't seem to find anything else in logs.

I've been playing around with GTA's windowed mode and an app that will force a windowed game into a borderless window. I've only been doing it for a short while but so far it seems to be better than the in-game implementation! There's less (no?) stutter and when I alt+tab out of the game my PC doesn't feel super sluggish for 10 seconds like it did when I was using the in-game setting. The resolution in the options will still say something like 2554x1411 (to account for the borders) but it will display properly once the app removes the borders.

Give it a try if you've been missing borderless windowed like I have.

I disabled the VRAM limiter thing and cranked textures up to Very High. Game looks great, but now I get this very clear line about a third up the screen where the textures go from high detail to low detail. I can't not stare at it when I'm walking around. It's not noticeable when driving because you're going so fast, but shit. This is a bummer. I'm not sure what the term for this is so I can't research it... anyone have advice? What do I need to tweak to help this?

I have a similar issue with foliage shadows and only foliage shadows -- they change from lower-res to high-res mere meters away from my character. It's rather annoying.

Edit: Settings: 1680x1050, FXAA, 2x MSAA for reflections, softest shadows, max everything else. Estimated VRAM usage as reported by the game's options menu is 3.3ishGB out of 4GB (1x 980).

I saw a while back that someone found a way to bypass the initial loading screen. Does anyone have a link to that?

Kinda late but here goes. Press start, go to settings, then go to saving and start up. There is an option for landing page - set it to "off."

May want to do some research though. I've read that turning it off creates some glitches or bugs in the game.

I was getting that error a ton patch free, first patch allowed me to have wonderful performance with no crashes, and then this latest patch is causing it to crash in the first 5-10 minutes with the error again. It's really frustrating and apparently a lot of people are getting it. I need to look around tomorrow and try any of the solutions that have worked for people. I really want to continue the story mode.

EDIT: Testing Post FX outside Trevor's garage at night, Ultra gives me a couple of extra frames over Very High.

AO is very, very inconsistent. Sometimes it'll show, sometimes it won't. Just did a test where it appeared consistently between settings, but for some reason, the High AO shadows appeared stripey sometimes.

Wow, the submersible's lights really murder the framerate. In one area I went from 60FPS to 20FPS with the lights on, as well as a 20-30% spike in GPU usage.

http://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU?page=1

Follow the instruction on that page, but in essence you just make sure it says 1080p/60Hz under "Detailed resolutions", then if your an Nvidia user make sure you select "Custom extension block" for custom resolutions to work properly, in the Extension block setting.

Click OK, then run restart64. The screen will flicker for a second so the change can take effect. You don't need to, but then you can reboot if you want.

In GTA V, under "Graphics" you will now see that 60Hz is enabled – and I guarantee the game will be smoother.

I had the same issue as you (initially) when connected to my Sony 60" TV I couldn't output sound through the TV itself – not a biggy as I use my headset 90% of the time – but you can fix it by installing the HDMI patch that is in that thread also (page 1).

If there are any issues, you can always run 'reset all' and everything will go back to the way it was. :)

I can't seem to get Vsync to work properly with the game...

If I use the ingame option it reduces the tearing but then sometime the game will cap at 30fps for no apparent reason.

When I try to use the setting via the Nvidia Control Panel it just doesn't work at all.. I have it set to "On" right now but I'm still going up to 80fps and I have a shit ton of tearing.

Really annoying. Anybody know how I could fix that?

Have you tried switching your shadow quality (to cause a black screen) and then back again?

Playing with almost everything on max settings and I'm getting something between 50-60 fps

but unfortunately also alot of screen tearing (strangely enough its more noticeable in cutscenes rather than in actual gameplay)

how can I avoid this?

vsync dumbs down my fps to 30 so thats a no go

D: My game froze twice earlier and I had to reboot the pc each time

The picture froze but the sound continued and my pc was completely unresponsive anyone else had this?

Did the sound loop or did it continue on normally as in character continued conversations, song finished, etc?

I've had a few freezes with the sound continuing, but each time I was able to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up task manager and not have to reboot.

That sounds like an unstable overclock causing the drivers to crash, is your GPU overclocked? I get this (on various games) when I push my overclocks too far, stops as soon as I find a stable overclock.

It's a shame the Windows 10 TP AMD beta drivers aren't more stable. The performance leap is huge, especially in GTA V, but there's heavy texture stutter when driving.

I go from using a mix of very high and high settings on my r9 290 to everything on Ultra except Grass Quality and also having to set MSAA to off to keep it at ~60 fps (not locked, but min framerate is 50).

Has anyone else given them a go and experienced the same issues/performance increase?

alright. but how do I do that? Im a noob

If you're a Nvidia owner, the control panel should be in the lower right corner of your desktop, or have a desktop shortcut. Open it, hit Manage 3d settings in the upper left, it'll start with Global (all games), hit the tab for Program Settings, there will be a button to Add, hit it, should populate with most recent programs, find the GTA V EXE (not the launcher), select. It'll give you a bunch of options, toward the bottom is Vsync, change it to On, hit apply.

Same basic jist with AMD software but might need to google the specific steps as I haven't had one of their cards in ages.
