Violent standoff between Cops and Protesters in Baltimore

Small issue in comparison, but holy cow that Baltimore Fox station is awful. Don't know who those anchors are but they are awful.

I was still too young at the time to really "get" politics (it took me until I was 20-21, I'd say) so it didn't bother me. But if I had her again now... oh boy lol. Funnily enough I ended up majoring in History in undergrad (along with accounting) and focused on 19th century US history so I still never really learned about the civil rights movement in an academic setting. Ah well.

Indeed, without the threat/action of anarchy there would never be any change. It's a sad but necessary component for anything to happen when only talking doesn't work.

it works short term. a sudden change can occur between policies but will this change the inner conviction of people towards people in the long term? no it will make it worse sometimes. this is why anarchy is never a solution long term even if it is a perceived solution short term

Don't feel bad, if you have interest in the subject it's never too late to read up on it and see what's behind the veil. It's so much deeper than what you would have learned in school in all likelihood anyway, so you can start your knowledge base fresh faced and without bias.

Must be great for the people who can't go to work for the next week while their store is closed, or people who have prescriptions that they need to pick up at CVS and can't. They'll be fine though, who cares about some old person's medicine, or who cares about some person's 2nd or 3rd job... They work for a corporation after all, they don't matter.

I'd be more concerned about the local people who had their prescriptions there who have now lost their medication. Hope they get sorted with alternative sources quickly as that store probably won't be back to normal for a while.

I don't get what's so hard to understand about these situations. Americans have fought hard for their freedoms since its founding. Americans are fighting for them now. The difference is that fellow Americans are now fighting other Americans who won't even acknowledge them as equal. That's disgusting. America as a land of equality, as a land of peace, of opportunity is failing, has failed. When a person can't even live with the same basic opportunities or freedoms as another simply because of the color of their skin its time to wake up and realize that we can't use those words to describe America anymore. And yeah, I think the ability to keep your life and not be afraid of the very people your tax dollars are supposed to be paying to keep you safe is a mighty big example of why those words fail. Action requires action. I feel for the safety of everyone involved, but I see no problems fighting for what you rightly deserve. Don't worry about buildings and property. That shit is replaceable. Let's worry about people and let's defend those who unfortunately feel like they have to step out and fight to prove they were alive in the first place. The fact that anyone has to do that, ever, is shameful.

So the kids stole opiate pills automatically. How do you know that? Most of the pictures show food.

No, it works long term. Laws have been changed that have forever altered the course of history, leading to changes in attitudes toward people and massive changes in the lives of oppressed peoples. Countries have been toppled due to it, changing attitudes of people toward government.

This is such a wrong headed view of history that it's almost as if you're just responding with your emotional gut feeling rather than anything in reality. You don't have to like anarchy. You don't have to like these rioters. You have to however accept the reality of history, because these things already have happened countless times in the past and they've worked. In the long term too.

Many peaceful protests later, nothing has changed.

As others have stated though, the results from such violent protests can go either way.

Lol not bias that's the first thing I'd go for if I was in there. If you're going to loot a pharmacy why wouldn't you take the opiate pills? Especially if you're in high school.

Its called collateral. Yeah, it sucks overall, I dont deny that. but I highly doubt you're surprised it has come to this. I'll care more about the people losing their medicine or an employee losing a couple days pay before I ever give a damn about some company.

That poster's "bias" is for the innocent store clerk and store manager who are now out of jobs, or the people who actually need to buy things at CVS day to day (perscriptions for instance). And yeah, I am biased against looters too. What of it?

I'm lucky, I know that if my CVS were violently shut down that I could easily get my prescriptions sent to another CVS or mailed to my house... But a lot of other people don't have that luxury or flexibility.

I think it's ridiculous that you juxtapose looting a CVS versus black people being shot by police, as if one depends on the other... Like, the only way that we're going to get police to stop shooting black people is if we all collectively loot CVS.

For what it's worth, I also care about black people being killed by police. But, unlike you, I don't make the relationship between looting a CVS and social progress.
