She is too big a star to continue playing a blue-skinned naked lady.

Seriously, watch her try her hand at big time Hollywood drama over the next 10 years.

I expect a career curve similar to Val Kilmer.

She literally already won an Oscar for a "big time Hollywood drama".

She's probably finishing up her agreement and the movies don't exclusively feature her or pay her enough. She also might just not love the franchise for whatever reason.
That, or simply that after 4 Hunger Games movies and 3 X-Men movies, she wants a break from time-consuming action-heavy franchises.

She has VERY successfully trasitioned into a respected hollywood drama actress. Where have you been?

She has been nominated for multiple oscars and has even won once. Val Kilmer never had the kind of respected dramatic acting success that she has already had. She even has yet another big oscar bait film out this year with Joy.

Have you missed films like Silver Lining Playbook, American Hustle, and Winter's Bone?

Val Kilmer was never nominated for an oscar. Jennifer Lawrence has already been nominated multiple times and has won one. There is literally nothing about their careers that are comparable. What a bizarre name to bring up as a comparison.

Yes, they held a joint press conference with Val to announce this.

No she has not said that. But we all know that is what she is thinking after winning an Oscar.

Or she might really like this role. I don't think she's going to pull a Halle Barry. She's also doing the hunger game movies and shit that's Oscar bait at the same time.

She's probably also not a huge fan of the makeup process. In Future's past they changed it for the first time to a bodysuit which I could imagine was to accommodate her a bit

Reckon this might be the best superhero movie of 2016? I know it's got stiff competition, but still.

Well, Abrams... I mean Singer is great at capturing the era feels with the pics so far. Jubes's hair has that 80s feel(hairsprayed and curled waves) without feeling too "staged" and perfect. It's still dull with frizz strands of hair floating around, which is how it looked out in the wild. It's also not overly blown up. The early 80s, the whole "big hair" thing wasn't as popular as it was later in the decade(even up until the early 90s, which before it DIED a trend death, managed to get ludicrously BIG and STUPID).

I always have mad respect for directors who at least try to show respect towards particular eras a movie is set, and try to capture the look and feel of that era without resorting to a big aping of only "pop culture" to the nth degree.

I bet I'll have the most fun with this one.

I have to agree with you too, Alpha. Singer isn't going overboard, it seems, with anachronistic visuals. This looks appropriate.

I agree. Many films set in past decades seem like it is just people playing dress up, while very few actually feel and look like the decade they are set in. That is one of the things I liked about Days of Future Past, and I have faith in Singer delivering the same feeling for the 80s.

For an example of one film capturing an era perfectly while another felt like dress up, look at Boogie Nights vs. 54. Boogie Nights felt like the 70s.

It really doesn't though, does it? Deadpool will probably be excellent. What else is out next year? I'm not taking BvS too seriously at all and Suicide Squad is in the same boat, thanks to Nu Metal Joker.

Jubes's hair...

Shortening Jubilation Lee's name to jubes is so wrong for some reason hahaha. But then her damn name is Jubilation Lee. Love the look of the film. It screams 80s (and i hate the 80s) and it looks like singer is having fun. Don't like the new Nightcrawler too much though but I trust Singer. He did good with X-Men DOFP.

Cap 3, which is pretty much going to be mini Avengers.

Another thing they actually did really well was the casting of age appropriate actors. The only one off is the guy playing Scott. He's a little older than he should be in 83, but that's not a big deal.

Famke born in 64, would be 19 in 83
Sophie born in 96, is now 19 while shooting

Halle born in 66, would be 17 in 83
Shipp born in 91, is now 21 while shooting

Marsden born in 73, would be 10 in 83
Sheridan born in 96, is now 19 while shooting

So our "new" X-Men have a more age correct Jean and Scott, while Storm is slightly older. Of course, who knows how old they're making them in the movie. They could all be 15 or 16 for all we know.

It's finally happening. After having my 10 year old self crushed by 1996's Generation X cancellation and watching Rogue take my Jubilee's place in the X-Men movies, there she is. No muted colors, no black leather outfit, no caucasian stand-in, but the genuine Chinese-American pastel colored mall rat. And it's not a Quicksilver glorified cameo, she looks to be part of the core team.

She's a boring actress giving a boring performance as a boring character. I'm glad she'll be leaving.
I personally feel the exact opposite. First Class was my first Xmen film and her and Magneto, made the movie for me. DOFP has around the same quality too. However the original Xmen films are pretty bad when it comes to making me care about the characters.

I think Marsden always looked a bit older and Jansen looked a little younger for her age, so it all works out for me.

I kinda liken bad 80s-set movies to those 80s themed parties you see in clubs(though I think high schools also have them occasionally), where half the guys show up in "Frankie Says Relax" shirts(because they don't know what else to show up in), the other half dress up like they are from Miami Vice, and half the girls are wearing day glow, leg warmers and headbands and the other half are dressed like Madonna, because... 80s!

I also think there's a stark contrast to the shallow pop culture thing. It's the more "try to keep the movie as modern as possible, and only give the most SLIGHT nudges it's still the 80s". It's basically, to put it bluntly, like people say, "Hipsters look kinda 80s, just take off those fedoras, give them Cosby sweaters, they already have the thick rimmed glasses, have them talk about stuff and put on some Quarterflash or Rick Springfield in the background.... and that's 80s!". They did similar things in the 90s with passing Grunge kids off as 70s kids. Sometimes it works, somethings it doesn't(well, most times it doesn't). I've found, most of the time, the only ones who take "era spirit" seriously are those making drama movies. I mean, visually, Argo did a damn fine job capturing the "look" of what the late 70s/early 80s looked like.

I think, now more than ever, it's not hard to research the more recently past decades. There are a LOT of videos you can find online, hell, even on YouTube. Commercials, television clips, even home movies from older decades that LITERALLY show you what life was like back then(you don't get more literal a window into the past than home footage of people shooting camcorder footage of their family or walking around town). It's not like the 1800s, where you don't get much literal video references, and have to do real book research to make a movie feel authentic.

Cap 3: Civil War

Now I really want to see Wolverine with the core team instead of being one of the Horsemen. Just want to see him getting dragged to the mall to "babysit" the team, lots of fun dynamics you could play with.

Also, anybody else think lack of Storm in photos so far = mohawk? Please Singer let it be so. He did say in that interview Sculli posted:

Storm is a troubled character who is going down the wrong path in life.

Giving her the mohawk and leather would be era-appropriate AND be an easy way of externalizing her rebelliousness.

Really excited for the movie.

DOFP is probably my favourite comic book movie of 2014 and I'm hoping this is just as good.

I'd be surprised if it WASN'T Mohawk Storm. As '80s-tastic as this thing already looks, leaving out the punk rocker doesn't make sense - especially since you got Nightcrawler paying tribute to MJ.

Also, if they don't take the opportunity to do a press photo with the new kids all posing like characters from The Breakfast Club, they're FUCKING UP.

Jean = Claire
Nightcrawler = Brian
Scott = Andrew
Jubilee = Allison (doesn't quiiiite fit, but fuck it)
Storm = Bender
