Point n Click Adventure GAF 2015 - Back with a vengeance

No steam KEY for pre-ordering from them directly?

The Wadjet Eye FB page says you get a Steam key. Better to buy through them as you get a DRM and Steam key plus a higher percentage of profits (all of it?) go to the developer instead of Valve taking their 30% cut. I assume you get both a Steam and DRM free copy.

pre-order page doesn't mention a steam key though ^^;

In fact this line is odd
You’ll also get the game as a DRM-free download from the Wadjet Eye Games website, or a Steam key.

Hi. Dave from Wadjet here. That page does mention a Steam key. Is it just not blatant enough? We'll work on making it more clear.

Feel free to use this.

Hi there, let me first say that I really enjoyed much of your output and hope to experience more of your games in the future along with this one.

In the website, the description states that you either get a DRM-free copy of the game or a Steam key, which made me think you don't get both.

I recall when I got a game from your website last time I got both drm-free and a Steam key, so the wording in this game's pre-order seemed odd to me.

I read it as one or the other, not you get both for sure. Though never bought direct from the pubs myself so can't say I know if you normally get both.

I really like The Journey Down, especially the second part, and I'm usually pretty negative about modern adventure games. Good art, music and characters. Even the voice acting is decent!

Yeah TJD leaves a good impression. The music just sticks with you. I sometimes still go back and just listen to the music. The unique art style it has is refreshing as well. Episode 3 can't come soon enough. Love those guys!

Woah did these JUST got added a few hours ago? Someone should make a thread about them.
How good are these games, especially for someone who isn't a big Star Trek fan :P

I thought these were lost forever. I love GOG.

I'd like to replay that TNG adventure game too! A Final Unity, I think it was called.

I never had a chance to play A Final Unity. I was in middle school and I can only afford to buy Full Throttle back then, which comes out a week after (or before?) out of my measly allowance. :-\

The Book of Unwritten Tales is currently $1 on the Humble store. Bought the gog version a few days ago and it's amazing. Everyone should play it.

A lof people seem to be raving about this, praising it to the skies and backs, but when I look at it, read the premise and the bullet points for it, and watch playthroughs on youtube, every single alarm bell starts ringing.

I have too many games as there is already, but I'm tempted to buy this just to see if it can prove me wrong .

I've given it two chances now. It's a very polished game with duller-than-dirt writing. It thinks it's far more clever than it actually is.

I'm playing the second one after a replay of the first, and honestly I'm baffled by the graphical nosedives: many backgrounds are just half assed sketches, or half assed sketches with very bad CG. The animations aren't better, and all the background videos are immediatly noticeable because they are so low res and pixellated - maybe on a iPad weren't noticeable, but on a monitor you can't hide the uglyness.

Voice acting is still good, but for the rest, what the hell happened? They finished the money or else?

Kathy Rain has been picked up by Raw Fury Games for publishing. The one-man studio (named Clifftop Games) has gone full-time and quit their job to put their all into this game. Striving for a release this year, but not guaranteed. I missed hearing about this game and I know they were struggling to find a publisher so I'm super happy they found one. Plus with this publisher they are able to bypass the Steam Greenlight process, so expect it on Steam/GoG hopefully this year.

I know people were interested in this game on this thread so wanted to spread the info.

Nice, one of the best modern adventure games, it's pretty funny too if you can catch the references.
Way better than Broken Age as a '90s callback imo

In what way is it that good? Looking at youtube playthroughs, I just cannot see anything that seems inspired or particulary well done.

Well, it's a highly polished comedy adventure game in the vein of Simon the Sorcerer and Sam & Max and I think it strikes a very good balance with its puzzles which manage to be quite inventive and logical at the same time (though they're certainly not challenging for a veteran of the genre).
Again, production values are really good, especially voice acting, but I also really like that the game has no shortage of animations (something that is sorely missing from similar games, especially those by Daedalic).
As for the humour, it's pretty subjective, personally I chuckled on more than one occasion and overall found the characters rather endearing, though maybe the game is a bit too reliant on Warcraft and Discworld references so if you're not familiar with that stuff many jokes might be lost on you.
Provided you like the aforementioned less-serious AGs, I see no reason to skip this one.

Yeah, I really liked Broken Age, so less serious and more fun AG are definitely for me. Book of Unwritten Tales just look so dull, but I guess I will have to make time for considering the praise it seems to get.

It is dull. I can only imagine that everyone's judgement is clouded by the lack of legitimately good modern adventure games.

If you're interested in good writing, I really like the Blackwell series and the Ben and Dan games.

Yeah, no, we just have to disagree there, Tbout style is not that dissimilar from other acclaimed wacky adventure games from the 90s (like, again, S&M and Simon the Sorcerer), I also disagree about Blackwell, it has really good puzzles and some decent side stories, but also features one of the dullest protagonists ever.

Today the director's cut of Zak McKracken - Between Time and Space has been released. Now including full Englisch voice acting as well as a French translation: http://www.mckracken.net/
Three gigabytes from Googledocs, what the hell! They had should also put a torrent, because not everyone has a 100 MBPS ADSL.

Tell this developers of PS4- and Xbox One-games. ;-)
Their patches are ofter bigger than 3 GB.

If you'd like to support the developers, they launched a Kickstarter campaign for their next adventure:

Glad they're giving it another chance for the funding of Oak Island. Their last KS was kind of depressing. I'm definitely in for some of that.

In other things, guess I'll need to get on GoG pronto and pick up Zak?

Galileo, did you just compare TBoUT to Sam & Max Hit the Road? No. Just no. There is a massive disparity between those two games in terms of joke quality.

Yeah, I did a double-take when I read that lol

I played Unwritten Tales for around four hours before I closed out of it. Not for me at all. I'm with epmode on this one.

I've already said I liked the jokes, as probably did most players since the game was very well received, so I don't think there's much left I can add.
I remain open to the possibility of other people not liking the humour of course.
Having said that, implying that those who liked the game have not played the "right" adventure games is, in my experience, unfair, on the contrary many who expressed appreciation for Tbout did so because they had played many 90's classics and felt that the game managed to recapture much of that spirit.
