Playtonic unveils Yooka-Laylee (Banjo Kazooie successor) [Kickstarter LIVE - Funded]

As awesome as everything looks so far, I think this kickstarter really needs a demo. Sure, not much to play with so far, but it would give a good idea of whether Playtonic are on the right track or not.

Have some exclusive art, GAF :)

Man, I really like these characters! Got to love those eyes and expressions. Steve Mayles knows his stuff!

P.S. No clothes, please!

Tetra isn't really Zelda, in that they're kinda treated as two different people by Nintendo similary to Sheik and Zelda, and even then she did help in OOT, and in TP, and basically every game to some form, and she's always had the same personality, only influenced in a slightly different manner due to the particular story of each game. Finally, as for Link, silent protagonist or not, he's always had a personality, and it's always been the same, the difference in WW is simply that it's further illustrated by the art style. Basically what I was trying to say was that they don't really change that much between games, because lore or not Nintendo doesn't really pay that much attention to the multiple people idea, it's just Link, Zelda, and Ganon, and whoever else they want to throw in a game.

For the most part, yes. It just seems like compared to what came before it, WW really spruced them all up. Twilight Princess made a pretty good attempt at trying to inject personality into them again, but I get the feeling most of that personality went into Midna somehow, since she's widely regarded as the best partner character. Twilight Princess is basically Wind Waker's opposite in terms of aesthetics, and Skyward Sword tried to be both. Also, Zelda definitely took a backseat to Midna in TP, and was used by Ganon as a tool against Link, a rare event that I can recall only happening again in Spirit Tracks, albeit by a villain other than Ganon, but still.

Every Zelda game is a masterpiece in its own way. I just tend to gravitate toward Wind Waker. Majora's Mask used to be my favorite tied with it, and it took some extensive thinking before I finally settled on Wind Waker being number 1 and Majora number 2.

Been having a similar mind battle with the Paper Mario RPGs as well... but we're really getting off-topic here.

On-topic, I was kinda hoping the chameleon would be female and the bat male. Even though Kazooie wasn't exactly feminine, it still added an interesting and not often seen chemistry. (Oh thank god this ended up being true! YES! Albeit, reversed apparently?)

In for the $55 tier, it's awesome to see the funding coming in so quick, gotta love how so many people on GAF say that 3d platformers are dead because no one wants them when Playtonic are blowing that notion out of the water.

First time I've backed something on KS, see how it works out but I need some good old-school 3D platforming in my life.

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
OH MY GOD.

We have to unlock that final pre-boss quiz game. I'm so getting the art book.

EDIT: Yup, dropping £70 no questions.

Oh man, anyone think this could get a retail release like Mighty No 9 is apparently getting? At least on Wii-U, since it's likely the Nintendo fanbase would eat this up.

I know I would.

Went a bit crazy and bought the boxed pc version with physical manual, artbook, and cd. Hope this turns out well, I'm excited for the prospects.

That doesn't make any sense with the stuff in the OP lol. Maybe a typo? They specifically called Laylee a "he" and said they feminized Yooka.

That was written by IGN before they knew.

From the Kickstarter Page:

Our new heroes, Yooka (the green bloke with no pants) and Laylee (the wisecracking lady-bat with the big nose) were conceptualised from the ground up for stellar platforming gameplay, created by the same character artist behind the rebooted Donkey Kong family and legendary N64 heroes Banjo and Kazooie.

>Laylee is the female of the duo, not Yooka

... I know she's got Kazooie's role, but I honestly feel kinda disappointed that it's not the other way way round. Oh, well.

Holy crap, £46,805 already. Yeah, this is gonna eclipse its goal easily.

Went with Digital Deluxe & Demo++. Don't care for the shirt(and 10 pounds shipping bleh) at the next tier and everything above is a little too spendy for me.

Yeah me too. It was more unique that way I thought.
