Gonna go with:
The Winter Soldier
Iron Man
Guardians of the Galaxy

I don't put much into IM 2 or 3, and I don't think I'd include AoU or Avengers in 4 or 5 spot.

Bummed our theater broke, and we didn't get any trailers. Really wanted to see The Force Awakens :/

I really need to rewatch AoU before I can cement the list but....

1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
2. Avengers: Age of Ultron
3. Guardians of the Galaxy
4. Iron Man
5. Avengers

6. Captain America: The First Avenger

8. Thor
9. Iron Man 2

10. Thor: The Dark World
11. The Incredible Hulk[/QUOTE]

I think my expectations are too high for marvel films. I need to think of them as mindless action movies like I do with the transformers movies. I'm going to see it again and see if my opinion changes.

The Avengers
Iron Man 3
Winter Soldier
Iron Man
Thor
Captain America
Age of Ultron
Guardians of the Galaxy
Iron Man 2
Incredible Hulk
Thor 2

AoU may change after I see it another time or two.

GotG used to be higher, but I felt a lot of its jokes fell flat on repeat viewings and the action wasn't anything special.

Winter Soldier.
Age of Ultron == Avengers.
Captain America The First Avenger.
Guardians of the Galaxy(only upon first watch)

I don't have an opinion on all the others.

Really Liked/loved
1. Guardians
2. Age of Ultron
3. Iron Man
4. Cap 2
5. Avengers (was higher but guardians, cap 2, and aou topped it recently)
-----------------------
Liked not loved
6. Cap 1
7. Thor
8. Iron Man 3
9. Thor 2
-----------------------
okay/watchable but not what I'd call "good"
10. Hulk
11. Iron Man 2

When Walt Disney reports that Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron earned $27.6 million on its advance-night Thursday showings in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D, it means that, under normal circumstances, we’re looking at what amounts to 9-12% of its opening weekend. So just running those numbers, we’re looking at a debut weekend of $230m-$306m. So does that mean we’re looking at the first $300m debut weekend? Well I would presume not, but that certainly would snap me out of my relative box office doldrums. But first some box office history for those who came in late.

300 million lol no

Looks like this could be a 230+ weekend though which would be nuts.

Edit: Reading further, this sounds more accurate

Unless frontloading is uncommonly large for a Marvel movie, and since it didn’t shatter any Thursday preview records I’m inclined to think it won’t be, it looks like we’re still looking at a 12%-15% Thursday-to-weekend figure ($184m-$230m), with reasonable guesstimates falling just a bit over/under the $220 million mark (12.5%). Yes, I am guessing more frontloading than usual both because of the whole “it’s a sequel” thing and because the Thursday number is so much larger than the Marvel norm.

My list goes like

1. Guardians of the Galaxy (clear best IMO)

2. Winter Soldier / Iron Man (its really hard to decide because they are both so good)

3. The Avengers (really good, but most of what made it so special was the spectacle behind it)

4. Age of Ultron (this could change but I feel like this is where it goes the best)

Everything else is good or average
except Iron Man 2, that movie is pure shit.

I'd say it sits behind the first Avengers and Winter Soldier for me right now. I might watch it again next weekend to see if that changes. There was so much to take in that I'm still chewing on that I think it'd benefit a lot from a second viewing.

What trailers did you guys get?

I got Spectre, Star Wars, Batman Vs Superman, Tomorrowland, Terminator Genysis, Jurassic World

I walked in a couple minutes late but got the tail end of Jurassic World, Pixels, Fantastic Four, Tomorrowland, and Ant-Man.

1. X-Men Origins Wolverine
2. The Wolverine
3. The Amazing Spiderman
4. The Amazingn Spiderman 2
5. Spiderman 3
lol you forgot the fantastic four and ghost rider films

My rankings, having seen AoU once:
Pure entertainment
1. GotG
2. Age of Ultron
3. Winter Soldier
4. Avengers
5. Iron Man 3

Story
1. Winter Soldier
2. Iron Man
3. GotG
4. The First Avenger/ The Avengers
5. Thor

Just came back from my second viewing. I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than my first. But holy shit I didn't expect the theater to be packed at 10 am EST. GF and I were glad we chose to go with the 3D version in the just before arriving cause 8 school buses packed with middle school kids had arrived just as we were walking towards the theater and every one of them went towards the standard version. Since I was curious, I asked if there's any tickets left for a standard showing. Nope, it was sold out for all showings today.

When thegf and I took our seats, I would say there were roughly 15 people in our viewing. That quickly changed over the next 10 minutes. There were probably maybe 6-8 seats available by the time the movie started. They showed the Batman v Superman, Jurassic World, Fantastic Four, Ant-Man and Star Wars trailers before the movie for us. I lost count over how many times I've seen the Star Wars trailer but I still ended up getting chills once that trailer began.

I had watched the first Avengers before leaving to see AoU and I gotta say, I vastly prefer AoU to it. I like Loki and all but for some reason I just like Spader's Ultron much more over him. The 3D wasn't good and I wouldn't recommend that version to anyone. Thank god the tickets were cheap.

Since we're doing lists, here's mine:

1) The Winter Soldier
2) Iron Man
3) Age of Ultron
4) Guardians of the Galaxy
5) Avengers
6) Iron Man 3
7) Captain America
8) Thor
9) Iron Man 2
10) The Incredible Hulk
11) The Dark World

1. The Winter Soldier
2. Iron Man
3. Age of Ultron
4. Thor: The Dark World
5. Guardians of the Galaxy/Avengers

The rest I just kind of like, in no order. Though The First Avenger and Iron Man 2 are the bottom 2.

Never got the dislike for Thor 2- and I'm not even a Thor fan at all.

My Dr. List:

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The Avengers
Guardians of the Galaxy
Captain America: The First Avenger
Iron Man 3
Iron Man
Iron Man 2
Thor: The Dark World
The Incredible Hulk
Thor

Just a few more hours of work to go then I'm off to the theater.

the movie was quite okay. Ultron is an upgrade over Loki but I was hoping they'd try to
make him a "sympathetic villain" when he was introduced in the beginning but he quickly went into boring old destroy-all-humans-mode.

as far as Marvel rankings go, I probably enjoyed GotG the most of all of them

LIST WARRRRSSSSS

Top Tier
1. Iron Man 3
2. Winter Soldier
3. Age of Ultron
4. Guardians of the Galaxy

Middle Tier
5. Avengers
6. Iron Man

Bottom Tier
7. Captain America
8. Thor 2
9. Iron Man 2
10. Incredible Hulk
11. Thor

Natasha hasn't been "just a pretty face" since the Avengers so that's a weird thing to suddenly comment on.
It's been a long time since the older movies so it could be that my memory has completely faded.

All I can say is that this is the most I remember about her character having much backstory and interesting character moments. I apologize if my phrasing was poor. I like the character and I like Scarlett Johansson.

*edit* AUUUGH DOUBLE POST, sorry.

General plot/character spoilers:

The bomb is Tony's. That's why they hate / don't trust him. Remember, Stark Industries was once a weapon manufacture.
Thanks. I don't totally understand the timeline though.

How old would Tony have been when the bomb hit near Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as children? I don't know how old he was when he got into Stark Industries to replace his father.

I also don't know if there was supposed to be an actual major war. Why was their European town being shelled to begin with? Why did the people shelling get Stark weapons -- because [whoever] Stark just didn't care who bought them? That last part is believable of course.

Why does everybody dislike Incredible Hulk so much? Norton was great as banner and the fighting was awesome. Betsy was so so but it wasn't the worst film they've done. Hulk even smashed in it.

Mainly because outside of a few references in Avengers 1, it's so inconsequential to the MCU, it may as well not exist.

One thing I forgot to mention in my mini-review was a seizure warning. I don't remember this from previous Marvel movies besides the opening animated Marvel comic thing, but there was a computer scene or two with REALLY fast fullscreen images flashing when data was being processed.

Gross, lists.

I also liked Iron Man 3. I rewatched it the other day to prep for AoU. It's a good movie, and I liked the ending.

I need to see AoU again, maybe next week. Having slept on it I think I'm going to like this movie more than the first Avengers, but seeing it back to back in a double feature. I had more goosebumps and good feelings rewatching the first film for the 200th time than I did seeing AoU for the first.

But I was also running on 3 hours of sleep and hungry. lol

I didn't think the movie was bad. Or good. It's just kind of plain.

I was mostly disappointed with Ultron. He's just instantly evil -- why? I thought he was supposed to have this creepy father/son type relationship with Stark. Why does Ultron want to exterminate humanity - what will it accomplish? His motivations are just poorly established and unsatisfying. It's really hard to go from a thoughtful and well-designed movie about a malevolent AI (Ex Machina) to this film, where it seems almost irrelevant that Ultron is an AI - he might as well be just another evil alien. I guess he kind of is, really.

All the additional super-powered people they introduced seemed like superfluous fluff, and none of them are really likable enough to get you emotionally involved.

The romance between Banner and Black Widow seemed really forced and sudden. Maybe they were flirting in previous films and I missed it, but it was really jarring and unnatural here. The subplot felt like an utter throwaway intended to engage the bored girlfriends in the audience.

This feels like the first Marvel film where you're really going to be out of the loop if you haven't kept up with the MCU that much. I guess SHIELD disbanded and Nick Fury was gone or something? I felt like I was supposed to know who several tertiary characters were but I was just drawing blanks on most of them.

Why can the Vision disable Ultron's ability to travel through the internet? Why would Ultron be so stupid as to have every version of himself converge at one location? Did they really just have someone say the line "He can't use the internet to escape now"? The problem posed by the villain in this film is so unique and interesting, it's a major letdown to see the "solution" to that problem end up being something astoundingly dumb.

All in all this movie is a very "Just roll with it, don't think about it" experience that just seems to lack a lot of the fun elements in the first film. All the action sequences are good, but there's really no standout sequences like the Battle of New York. I had enough fun but I think they failed to top the original in almost every way.

LIST WAAAAAAAAAAAAARS

So, seeing it tonight. Going in, this is probably my current ranking.

1.Captain America: Winter Soldier
2.Iron Man
3.Guardians of the Galaxy
4.Iron Man 3
5.Avengers
6.Captain America: First Avenger
7.Incredible Hulk
8.Thor
9.Thor 2
10.Iron Man 2

Secret No. 1 is actually Daredevil

here's my list of lists i think this thread needs:

I look forward to seeing this tomorrow at the local Cinebistro, gonna get real comfy and probably fall asleep because i'm an old man but it's going to be awesome

Not going to post a list but I think AoU definitely ranks amongst the top 3 for me, easily (first impressions put it at the top, but that may change after letting the initial thrill sink in) and I'd be really shocked if it doesn't at least rank amongst the top 5 in a general consensus (at the moment that seems to be the case here).

I dug it, it was a bit too jokey and Ultron was a bit...watered down but overall, I dug it.

4/5

Winter Soldier, GOTG, and IM1 are still the best ones and Avengers 1 is kinda better but Ultron does work.

Everything else will be on the spoiler thread.

Ranking the MCU films:

God tier

Avengers

Great tier

Winter Soldier
Iron Man 1
Daredevil
Guardians of the Galaxy

Very good tier

Iron Man 3
Age of Ultron

Good tier

Thor 2
Cap 1
Thor

Okay tier

Iron Man 2

Mediocre tier

Incredible Hulk

I'd still like to see Age of Ultron a few more times, specifically in 2D.

Well as a guy who was lukewarm on the first Avengers... that was AWESOME.

Age of Ultron>>>>>>>>>Avengers 1

Didn't like Scarlet or Quicksilver at all... He was much better in Xmen.

Black Widow/Hulk/Hawkeye turned up the mush factor a little to high, wouldn't have minded that being toned down.

Also next class of Avengers looks very underwhelming.

Bummed our theater broke, and we didn't get any trailers. Really wanted to see The Force Awakens :/

I really need to rewatch AoU before I can cement the list but....

1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
2. Avengers: Age of Ultron
3. Guardians of the Galaxy
4. Iron Man
5. Avengers

6. Captain America: The First Avenger
7. Iron Man 3
8. Iron Man 2
9. Thor
10. Thor: The Dark World
11. The Incredible Hulk

I'd have the first Thor above first Cap in 6th place, other than that good list
