The bots were not meant to kill the Avengers. Ultron made it clear that he wanted to do that himself. The bots were meant as fodder to keep them busy while he executed his plan. And if you don't think Ultron Prime was strong, I don't know what to tell you. It took the entire Avengers team plus a fucking Infinity Stone to stop him, and even then he wasn't dead until Wanda ripped his heart out.
combined effort of Thor, Iron Man, Vision, Hulk, and Scarlet Witch to finally end Ultron for good. Loki got taken out by an exploding arrow to the face and a thrashing from the Hulk
The more I think about the movie, the more I loved Scarlet Witch. Visually striking power set, nice little character arc with her brother, a teeny tiny tease of her relationship with The Vision...
I also liked how they kept her powers vague, so they can potentially link them to Dr. Strange later.
Ultron comes across as such a non-threatening jobber its not even funny, Ultron should be a near unstoppable monster, not someone Cap by himself can trade blows with. But the Scarlet Witch is pretty cool so thats something, Quicksilver was near pointless as a character though.
resilient to damage I agree and yet couldn't really dish it out until he was in a airplane. Hopefully Thanos brings with him his little helicopter from the comics.

plasma ray even just winded Dr Cho. She probably walked it off then did some push-ups. Anyway, i'm sorry you disagree with me so intensively. Just my personal opinion again. Jobber seems a pretty fitting word. No need to keep filling this thread up with black bars in any case.

I know it's cool to be contrarian these days, but you look silly saying this movie is in any way worse than Avengers 1, and below GOTG (which is clearly below Avengers 1).
GOTG had arguably worse humor than Avengers 1, worse "action" scenes, a wack leading lady (Scarlett > Zoe), a fucking god awful rendition of The Accuser, and Drax was played by Bautista. Fucking BAUTISTA. Made a mockery of Drax. Groot was played as a lovable giant, but that couldn't be further from his character.
That said, GOTG worked as a film. It was ok, run of the mill. But AoU is simply amazing.
I have not seen AoU yet, but I disagree strongly with your opinion of GotG. In fact, if this is truly how you feel then I can't trust any other opinions you have about anything, I mean holy shit.
IMHO GotG and CA:TWS are the two best movies ever made by Marvel, and it's a thin line and a matter of mood between which of those two is the absolute best.

You got a PS4? We should talk comics and shoot stuff.

I could have done with prime ultron being just a little overpowered. Avengers feels like it needs to be a team response for a reason, and the film Ultrons came off more like nuisances than people that could actually make the team shit their pants. Even if the drones were weak and the big guy was fucking stronk I would have preferred that. Just imo.
I don't get the complaint of Ultron not being threatening.
Not only were his bodies a challenge to defeat, but he could be in any one of them, and even if the main body was destroyed you still hadn't defeated him. Vision cutting him off from the net was the real deathblow.
I just loved how he wasn't your typical evil robot. He had a lot of personality, my favorite line was something like
"Wait you guys!
or whatever he says. It was just so human. Not just human, but a dude.
It was at mine. Ant-Man and then Star Wars were the final two trailers before the movie started. Which was great because God knows we needed some good trailers after they showed us one of some movie about California falling into the ocean.
Seems a little bit more positive, though still see some mixed opinions here and there, just judging from GAF threads. Of course, waiting for the whole weekend to be over might give a more balanced view.
5/10. hardly anything original or exciting. ultron is a joke. his mere creation is retarded. i dont know why stark would risk injecting alien AI/bio hybrid into his work without fully understanding it. and i was rolling my eyes at so many of the generic fight scenes. hawkeye is a moron for taking everyone to his family's house. what stupidity. lovey dovey between widow and hulk? where did this come from? so dry and laughable...and isnt ultron supposed to be super smart etc, why is he so lame...i swear if i showed someone the first 2/3 of the first movie and then switched the last third with this movie they wouldnt even know. so much mediocrity in this film. should have used some explosions budget and hire some good writers.
the only scene i liked was when they were all trying to pick up mjolnir.

Overall, I liked it. Definitely below TWS/Iron Man/GOTG but not anywhere near the bottom tier stuff. It just didn't really blow away my expectations.
I loved the way that Hawkeye is developed--it was a nice way to turn convention on its head and I appreciated those
farmhouse
scenes. Black Widow got some good development as well. I think the
"my ovaries are gone, I'm a monster" was a little heavy-handed, but to me, it implied that she would be basically "forced" to sleep with/seduce enemies or targets, and couldn't risk getting pregnant. It works the other way, too: she could never have a family that pulls her away from her duty.
The
Banner/Widow
relationship was nice, if not a bit forced. Still, I think the actors pulled it off well enough to overlook how rushed it started.
Ultron, as a character, was...interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about him cracking jokes. I think it may have not worked for me because, again, everything about him was so rushed. I'm not even sure if I'm supposed to be afraid of this guy and he's already spitting out one-liners. Overall, I enjoyed him, but everything about him didn't really gel with me.
Vision was great, even though he was rushed, as well. Nice to have some balance to the "evil CGI robots" and Paul Bettany is wonderful, as usual. I'm glad he got a bigger role.
Almost the entire beginning action sequence felt a little flat to me. I don't know what it was--like, it was more exciting watching Cap
toss his motorcycle onto the baddie jeep in the trailer vs in the actual movie.
I don't know why.
The CGI in that sequence, in particular, and some others was very iffy. Some of it had this herky-jerky feel and it looked really cheap. The green screen when ScarJo was on her motorcycle later in the movie was bad, too.
Sometimes, Ultron's metal texture/shader looked great, and other times it took on this greasy, almost cell-shaded look. It stood out. Other times, the CGI was absolutely fantastic. I'd say most of the time, actually, which is maybe why the bad moments stick out so much.
What was with
the Thor pool
? I saw some explanations that this will be explained in other movies, but that's super shitty.
"Oh, here's the swimming hole."
"Good thing we're at the swimming hole. I need it for this thing."
"Good luck in the swimming hole."
*Thor thrashes around in the swimming hole*
The floating shipping container got some guffaws from our audience. It looked pretty silly--kinda like that giant floating cat from The Last Airbender.
Also, huge groan/eyeroll at
cutting off "Avengers, assemble".
Why? Why why why? Shit like that is 10x worse than Nolan's spinning totem or anything like that, because it serves no purpose than to tease/frustrate fans. Get over yourself, Whedon.

Loki/Hiddleston isn't really a menacing looking guy. He even looks kinda silly in his Power Ranger armor sometimes. But, I thought he was dangerous because it was clear why he felt the way he did. Even still, he was likeable due to the performance and the writing, so you wanted to believe he has good in him. They really try to flesh him out all they can.
Ultron doesn't really get that time.
Ten minutes after we first hear the word "Ultron" in the movie, he is born and tries to murder everyone. Then he retreats and ten minutes later he's in a much more advanced form and quickly convinces the twins to join him.
Too many things felt like they happened because they had to happen--the pacing and narrative felt very off.
God, that entire sequence just felt amateur. We get a cheesy ass montage of
Banner and Stark working SO HARD, getting SO FRUSTRATED, and SO FAILING at making Ultron. Shucks! But wait--Ultron comes alive the moment they turn off the light! How interesting.
Hiddleston gave Loki a "there's no way he'll go that far--oh shit, he just went that far" edge because of his deep-rooted feelings of inadequacy and rage. Ultron didn't get that development. It didn't help that the robots bodies were all dispatched almost ridiculously easily--they didn't seem any different than the Chitauri.
In particular, I kept feeling like lines and scenes in the first half were oddly clipped and edited. I can't remember which scene, but I think one of the Avengers was talking to a woman, and it was some sort of important or emotional moment, and the scene ended almost mid-sentence with a cut to black or another scene.
Even had the editing been smoother, I think this movie may have been a bunch of flashy scenes with Avengers doing flashy things, rather than a bunch of scenes that fit together into a story. One might say that of many Marvel movies, but I do not remember it being true to this extent. Granted, I still LIKE the various characters, and they have their chemistry, and they are fun to watch though Thor's accent felt a little forced or sloppy this time.
Again maybe this was true of previous Marvel and Avengers movies, but a couple of moments felt particularly contrived. There were also some slow, emotional moments that kind of clashed with the frantic pace of the rest of the movie instead of pleasantly contrasting. Hawkeye outright tells another character that nothing really makes sense, but the movie still tries to keep things sort of grounded instead of completely rolling with it.
There were a good many jokes, and even with a reasonable crowd late on opening night, some lines didn't seem to get a reaction. I had trouble even understanding some dialogue -- someone fake-coughing a joke, or someone yelling a joke in a fight and being overwhelmed by noise, that sort of thing.
Definitely agree with all of this, and yeah, the sound-mixing was pretty rough at points. Lots of muffled/quiet jokes, when I don't think that was the intention.
As someone who doesn't hate TDKR (I actually really like a lot of it), AoU is the TDKR of MCU. Has some high highs and some low lows, is overwritten, and they weren't always sure what to do in the editing room.
