Can anyone explain to me how somewhere like Sunderland can declare within an hour yet a place like Margate won't until 6am?

Trust me on this. SNP have won Rutherglen, 24,000 majority overturned. It's not even close according to a mate at the count.

Christ I still can't wrap my head around the enormity of a swing like that.

I mean, we've all seen the polls the last few months but it's still crazy.

Aye ok.

UKIP now the 3rd party....

Holy hell, 2020 is going to be a bloodbath

Pretty sure the SNP are the third party, at least if we're going by number of seats.

Surprised out how early people are calling this. The exit poll doesn't have to be far out for there to be a spanner in the works.

Nobody picked up on the rumour that Danny Alexander might have lost his seat?

EDIT: Beaten by seconds.

Each of those looked like they were in a huge warehouse, so I guess a large number of people counting the votes?

Sunderland makes a big effort to count quickly. Most places just make sure it's done right and don't care how quick it's done. Less people etc

Like how the sun editor completely ignored the question as to whether Murdoch tells them what to say. Can't call him a lier at least!

Lord Ashcroft 'exit poll', just percentages, not seats: Con 34%, Lab 31%, Ukip 14%, Lib Dems 9%, Greens 7%.

Still worse for Labour than the final polls, but nowhere near as bad as the broadcaster's exit poll. In line with Yougov's.

A country where politics have become so partisan that one party will shoot down any idea solely because it has been proposed by the other? That seems to have trouble even passing a federal budget?

i'd rather live in a country of political deadlock than one with a tory government for another five years

Green at 7% would be pretty amazing.

off topic but has anyone watched Peter Kays Car share? Watching it in cohesion with the results, quite charming really.

Would they? They'd have just over a third of the commons with PR as opposed to almost half without, wouldn't they?

Sorry, I got a step ahead of myself. In the current set up Labor + SNP could easily get more seats than the Tories + UKIP with fewer votes. So, they would have fewer seats as a party but the conservative block would be stronger.

of course rupert murdoch would be pro-snp--it erode's labour's majority in westminster and makes tory government more likely

not exactly rocket science
