So both shouldn't be trusted?, UbiSoft has their bad reputation, CD Project seems to follow then.
Well we are still in the downgrade debate with the Witcher 3, your POV is obviously that the companies are at fault, they make false promises, the customer is the victim.
To make a short summary of it.
In terms of early footage actually representing their final product? No, neither should be trusted anymore in that context. Things change when we talk about trust outside of that narrow confine though because as a developer cd project red still has a more well earned reputation in terms of game design.

The liar is the liar. That is my point. If someone falls prey to that lie, the liar still is guilty of lying. He is the only one at fault for lying. My sympathy for the person that got deceived however shifts based on circumstance.

God tier target render bullshot.

Anyone who says the actual game looks like this, based on what CDPR has shown, is insane.

People need to realise that every game gets downgraded from trailers etc. They are only to hype people up with amazing graphics that we will never gonna see in final product.

I keep going back and forth on the downgrade. Especially with that guy on reddit saying that White Orchard, where most of our recent footage is from, looks like ass compared to the rest of the game. I'm probably going to wait til the game releases and I see some same time of day, same location shots side by side. Making comparisons now seems a bit pointless.

The game does appear to have been downgraded from the Sword of Destiny trailer, and this is dissapointing. Foliage seems to have taken quite a hit for example. But I'm still more than happy with the visial fidelity I've seen over the last few weeks and months. I'm still going to buy the game and am very hyped, but I do wish the look of the game matched that 2013 trailer. Always thought the part with Geralt in the swamp looked incredible, like Witcher 1 on crack. Doesn't hurt nearly as much as Watch Dogs tho, probably because I'm looking forward to more than just impressive graphics from The Witcher 3.

That's what you get for releasing the game on three platforms simultaneously, should have been focused on pc first then ported to consoles after like W2. I hope there's a big enough backlash so that they don't fuck up cyberpunk... It's such an important game

People realise that.
And developers should be called out every time.
Actually people should complain more..since it doesn't seem enough to make them stop

Funny how CD Projekt RED gets a pass but Ubisoft gets all the flak.

Pretty much this, I saw that in the other thread as well with the CD keys.
While the game still looks great it's nowhere near it's initial showing, it looked a lot better before.

I see, a liar will not be believed even when he speaks the truth. In that case, there are a lot of companies which lie, it is pretty rare to find a company which tells you the truth especially the PR marketing.

I couldn't have said this better. It being common practice in no way makes it good.

Have you ever heared the storry of the boy who cried wolf too many times... I think CDPR made a smart move here, the witcher will be the game that makes the word downgrade unspeakable. Open a disscussion with the word downgrade and allready the first 100 post are going to be - for fucks sake. Witcher 3 is a technical masterpiece, a giant open world with no loadingscreens for buildings and caves, rich in detail and overall beautifull, with the promise of great story and great gameplay, yet your complaining over fucking grass. Can you see why people might think thats crazy and will certainly not side with you. When the reviews come out and the game gets 90+ from every reviewer there will be a shitstorm, but it will not be directed at CDPR. This thread is like watching somebody with full speed running against a wall...

Yeah that's a downgrade.

Sucks.....but not much to do about it. Things change in development.

Should still give my PC a nice workout.

I wonder what would have been if CD Projekt Red simply used the PC as a baseline to work with in the first place for their target goal, and then scaled down or lower the settings until it hit the target framerate on PS4 and XB1? Wouldn't both the PS4 and XB1 being mainly based on PC hardware and using x86 made this a viable option.

Maybe Durante or someone who has some more elaborate knowledge on how this works could explain why CDPR didn't go with this option.

780 Ti. Even at 30fps 1080p with settings moderately high i wouldn't care honestly. You have to remember that foliage is absolutely everywhere in the game. THE GAME IS A GIANT FOLIAGE GODDAMMIT. *calms down*. And as someone said earlier the difference is like night and day. They're completely different foliageseseses (i don't know the plural, shut up).

The pain... It hurts.

CDPR: "No Graphics Downgrade In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Optimizing To Get Best Performance As Possible"

http://www.gamepur.com/news/17821-c...-witcher-3-wild-hunt-optimizing-get-best.html

This statement has probably been prepared by their legal and PR department. Clearly they won't actively downgrade the graphics just for fun, but:

Definition of OPTIMIZATION

: an act, process, or methodology of making something (as a design, system, or decision) as fully perfect, functional, or effective as possible;

If it's not possible to have this image quality at a sufficient performance on PS4/X1 they will "optimize" the graphics. These hollow statement should not be taken seriously.

Wait people are denying the downgrade? Bhahaha, better get your eyes checked.

Game looks great anyways. Although I am worried that the gameplay will feature the same trappings of the open world genre.

I don't know why a downgrade thread exists before the game has been released, and proper comparisons can be made. Until then this thread seems pointless.

I agree. Especially since most of the screenshots we can somewhat directly compare are already indicating that the game likely looks mostly the same.

There definitely seems to have been a bit of a shift in the art direction, though it doesn't seem to affect every area. We also know the camera has been moved further back from Geralt and the strong sharpening filter removed. And there does seem to be a fair indication that the typical short grass in the game has been changed for the worse. But in most other regards the game appears to have maintained or improved on the graphical quality of the earlier showings.

I'm utterly baffled and disappointed at some people's eagerness to crucify CD Projekt RED based on such insufficient and flimsy evidence. Why can't these people at least wait for the game to be released so that we can do a more thorough and accurate comparison?

Because people need something they can get angry at, patience was never a human thing, people need something they can be angry about or argue about.

I've noticed the same thing. The people claiming downgrades are mostly just making drive by posts saying ridiculous stuff like "it looks nowhere as good anymore". A few of them manage to post a couple screenshots, but it's almost always some nonsensical comparison of totally different areas with different assets and different lighting conditions.

I'm posting numerous screenshots of much more comparable scenes and trying to engage in an actual discussion, but those people are doing their best to ignore that evidence.

If the game truly has been downgraded, especially if in a significant way as some of them claim, it should be easy to post just as many similar or identical scenes showing a downgrade. There also wouldn't be so many screenshots of the same or similar scenes which show the newer version looking the same or better than the old version. If there really were a significant downgrade the old version should pretty consistently look better in each scene, but that's not what the evidence shows at all.

Exactly! That's why I posted earlier saying this thread is pointless. This is a huge game and I am sure some things have been changed between the earliest material and the final product. The fact that you can post screens where the game looks identical to the earlier footage should make people cautious about claims of a "massive downgrade". Just wait until the final game is released and a shot for shot comparison can be done.

How about companies stop misrepresenting their games? This has more to do than just the lack of tessellation, water effects, foliage, and other assets. People bought the game because of being presented with that. I'm sure if it was an Indie title that was shown at 60 fps but then locked to 30 fps later... people would flip shit if they had already preordered the game with the pretense of thinking it was a smith 60.

Why are there so many apologists for companies out there? I mean the same thing is happening with the MKX PC fiasco. People are actually defending that shit product.

Buying a game based on a trailer from 2013 is just stupid. You must have been living under a rock for the past two years if you haven't seen any actual gameplay since then.

I also noticed people love to defend companies, and their methods, it is really sad, especially companies care less for it, people defend design decisions and over all decisions the companies make.
I hate that totally, especially companies have shit ton of money, why they need to be protected?

It doesn't but I wont go as far as to say it won't come close.

Really can't wait to have the PC version on my SSD and be testing out Ultra at 4K (Or 1440p if I must).

A lot if not all of the effects from that scene are still in the game.

The things that make that scene look great are the vista itself, shadows on foliage caused by "Volume Based Translucency", which we know is still in, the fog, which is dynamic, and the draw distance, which may or may not be the same.

Also the ocean, which I am assuming still gets choppy in windy weather.

Will it look exactly like that gif? Nope, unfortunately. But will it look close enough to blow us away? Probably.

It's not ok for them to get a pass. I love cd project red but something has to give. Either we don't care and the people that attacked ubi should feel stupid and take a good look at them selves in the mirror. Or, cd project red get the same treatment as ubisoft did.

The game still looks good... So what's the whole fuss about? Gameplay/Story is what matters the most. If you are still surprised by this kind of PR tactics, then maybe you should stop and think for a second.

This is the biggest issue in all this for me as well.
It's undeniable a downgrade happened. The game still looks good, but not as good as it was promised. It's still probably great and I'll enjoy it no matter the downgraded graphics (hell, my current PC would probably fry trying to render it on Ultra anyway).

BUT the developer lying into everyone's face about it is just... so wrong. I mean, they released the screenshots and the videos over time. Just say "yes we had to cut down on the detail level because of [reasons]." But don't insist that everyone is suddenly blind.
I'd like to be on their side with the GMG thing but I just don't trust them at this point.

They are spitting into our face. I am fucking disgusted with these companies where it is more important to lie than to acknowlegde the fact that the game was downgraded. Big deal. But I mean fuck you if you can't be honest to your consumers. Are we dealing here with politicans or game developers.

Thank you. A lot of people aren't understanding what the big problem is. The problem isn't the visuals themselves it's the fact that the game was misrepresented. On top of this we were even told by them that there was absolutely no downgrade.

I doubt he is going to stick his head in this thread again.

Like him I'm somewhat disgusted by the "comparisions" people are peddling as fact. It doesn't matter if there have been downgrades or not, the images posted in this thread do not stand up in a rigorous test of whether the quality has changed.

1) A lot of these are comparing completely different scenes, different TODs use different filters.

2) The example images are compressed to shit (this goes for both sides of the argument).

3) Posting low resolution gifs is utterly stupid and doesn't hold up to scrutiny. FFS stop using gifs.

4) Nobody is actually bothering to state where they got these images, how they were captured and when they were captured. There are no indications or caveats justifying disparities when the images are not the same.

If people are complaining about downgrades in visual quality, WTF are they thinking when they are posting shitty images to make their point. It is hard to take anybody seriously.

Very disappointing. I updated my video card recently for this.

I will get much use out of the card elsewhere so it is not the end of the world. I wish some of these companies would advertise and show their real product...

Not politicians, not game developers, we deal with business and a lot of money.

As an IT-lawyer almost 50% of my work nowadays is about these kind of misleading statements (happens even more often in business related IT) and the impact they have.
I totally get why people fall for them though, because those statements are pretty well thought out and can only be encrypted if you break down the semantics and assume foul play. "In-engine footage" is my favorite these days LOL

You are dealing with the people that fund these games ;) and perhaps they're not so different from politicians.
