Witcher 3 downgrade arguments in here and nowhere else

Well yeah. At its core it's a game that looks better than Witcher 2 in a huge open world. That's impressive no matter how you look at it
Some in this thread disagree and think the Witcher 2 looks better. Which is just ridiculous.

I think people in this thread are being intentionally dishonest. The comparisons they are posting are not even of the same scene, time of day, etc and they are claiming a massive downgrade. If you really wanted to see what has been changed between the 2013 trailer and the final product you would wait until release and go shot for shot. Most of the posts alleging downgrade are pure garbage, and are people just trolling. Look at the comparison posted a page or two ago showing as best as possible scene for scene comparisons and the game exactly the same outside of time of day and minor changes.

Sorry but the OP clearly shows same scene \ same time of day.

Their was definitely a downgrade in at least some of the effects / lighting.

What aspects are you comparing between the two images that looks better? Aside from the monster's new color pallet, nothing in it impresses me as much as the first image does. Not trying to troll.

Geralts model and the beast model are looking way better, armour too, the spell Geralt is casting looks better, the ruins are looking basically the same, and only the foliage looks better in the older one

While I can agree with you, I think it's terrible to judge a game just because of graphics.
But yet, I remember when I saw The Witcher 3 for the first time: "Wow, how the hell CDPR can make a game more beautiful than EVERY OTHER studio?". I was THAT impressed.

I know that Witcher 3 seems to be an awesome game and I will probably buy sometime, but that was they sold to us, and since everybody is burned for the last year of downgrades (specially Watch Dogs and Dark Souls 2), people are overreacting about this.

Oh Snake, we've been through this before. They were also compressed to hell jpgs of the console version. Which were terrible for actually measuring IQ. We also have console screenshots know, (xb1 version at least), that do a much better job of showing off the actual IQ you get from playing the game.
I'm with Sn4ke on this one.
The pre release shots vs the actual in game footage were downgraded.
Not to a major extent, as in a I felt cheated but to an extent that if you looked for the downgrade then you'd find it.

AC:Unity's lighting was left unchanged though which I thought was nice.

Anyway there's a clear downgrade here, in foliage, LOD and texture work as well as its clear assets have been replaced.

But also as others have said, Devs have to make these choices in order for the game to remain in a playable state (watchdogs took the piss though) so I'm not one bit mad.

This game still looks really good considering the amount of detail that is in some of these screens!
My pre-order is still ready to ship!

Totally. The amount of detail and gigantic world

Welcome to internet outrage.

I just find it hilarious. Watch Dogs was missing some shadow effects and a few minor lighting and other details compared to the reveal, sure. But when the newest footage doesn't blow people away like the original, it's suddenly a generational step backward. The most hilarious was when people were flipping their shit over literally one small, low quality GIF. One GIF. That's all it took.

The difference here is that Ubi intentionally removed effects from the PC version (because their management is dumber than bricks) whereas with the Witcher 3 they created vertical slice scenarios for their reveal and then realized it was unrealistic to maintain that level of quality throughout the world. It's not really that big of a deal imo considering how good the end results are. I'd much rather have that over wildly inconsistent performance.

Gaming media/sites should get this story and other similar ones, If gaming journalists make articles about this (when every devs do it and not only when big bad publishers like Ubi, Sadly From got a free pass when they downgraded Dark Souls 2 and now CDPR will most likely get a free pass as well) and treat it as a false advertising and a bad misleading shady behavior less and less developers will do it in the future, but yeah that will not happen.

Actually, the reason it won't happen is because of the realities of game development, not for the reasons some of you imagine. No matter how much you exaggerate downgrades or complain it's not going to change those realities. At best you might encourage devs to simply stop showing their games until much closer to release, but I don't see how that benefits anyone.

Think about it, nearly every big game these days has some downgrade claims directed at it. Everything from Infamous Second Son and Assassin's Creed Unity to Uncharted 4 and The Witcher 3. Some of these games are made by some of the most well-regarded developers in the industry. So what's more likely?: that all these devs are really incompetent, lying douchebags or that some gamers simply don't understand the realities of game development and also tend to be very poor judges of game graphics?

I disagree, I even did a 1:1 screenshot comparison in a thread a while back. Actually there were plenty of upgrades in the final game, like the cloth physics not having tons of clipping when Arno crouches.

I think Witcher 2 looked better in 2011 than Witcher 3 does in 2015, but the latter is still the more impressive game, despite its numerous shortcomings.
How? I mean let's see what we have here:

Witcher 3 has much better cloth physics, physically based rendering and much better shaders for things like skin, facial and character animation(these two had huge improvements), better foliage physics, more advanced lighting, better effects from particle effects to dust, and all of this is before you add hairworks and all the other nvidia tech.

So how, or why do you think it looks better?

I remember that gif, it was crazy.

Funnily enough WD looks really great on ultra, just few effects are missing (which is still a shame of course).

The screens i'm talking about were from the final game ;)

How anyone can think The Witcher 2 looks better is beyond me.

Same time of day according to people who viewed the stream before you ask.
I still think it looks good! Can't wait to play!

I don't understand, why is this a big deal? Bullshots have been a thing since the 90s. At least the game is actually coming out!

Now that was a bullshit trailer.
Well technically it was using all in-game assets. I'm expecting some things like explosions to not be as intense to help with framerate however. Definitely wouldn't be shocked with a reduced resolution on consoles.

Different platforms. First pic is from PS4, second is from PC.

Truth right here. The sheer lack of common sense and understanding of the realities of game development in this thread is staggering. There is a portion of posters in here that simply have no understanding of what consitutes a vertical slice created for marketing vs. completing an entire game and getting It to run smoothly on a variety of systems.

First screenshot must be PS4 or Xbox One (those are the only leaked copies) while the second is from a PC build. Also weather effects.

I don't understand.. what's the purpose of this comparison? One is PS4 footage from a stream, one is from the PC version.. one is with clear sky (PC) and one has under clouds (PS4)..
