Still working my way through the series, just got done with Episode 8, but I wanted to just repeat this is an incredible fucking series. Its boggles my mind that this is a Marvel story, and gets me ridiculously hyped for Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. And for that cross my demographic, my wide, who is no comic book devotee, is enthralled as well.

Just wrapped it up. Loved it. The first half was seriously violent and brutal, but the violence really tapered off towards the end.
The suit reveal was so good. Even though I wish it came earlier, it was hype.
Didnt really care for Karen or Foggy however. Wilson Fisk was awesome tho.

Finished the season. I enjoyed it for the most part, but thought the earlier episodes were strongest. Some of the episodes toward the end were kind of eye-roll inducing.
Hated Karen, and found Foggy to be pretty annoying most of the season, with some pretty poorly written dialogue.
Liked Charlie Cox as daredevil. Only knew him from Boardwalk Empire, but he does a good job here. So did Vincent D'Onofrio and Rosario Dawson. In fact most of the supporting cast was pretty good, I just really didn't care for Karen and Foggy, and unfortunately those two had quite a lot of screen time. The scenes with only them on screen were pretty awful.
I think the writing in the show could be better. I found a lot of the plot to be pretty predictable.
But I dug the darker and somewhat realistic tone, especially earlier in the season. I think it lost some of that toward the end, but it finished strong with a pretty good finale.

I think there were some elements they rushed, mostly on the basis that they didn't know if there would be a second season. Ben's death is one of those, the quick relationship with Fisk/Vanessa and the reveal of Matt's secret identity so quick are the others. I don't think there was anything wrong with Ben dying, but it lacked the impact it could have had say, midway through the second season.

I thought it was a great moment because anyone familiar with the comic has a 'eh, let's see Marvel pussy out of killing him' and they not only end the episode with him dead, the next episode starts with his funeral.

Not as far as I can tell. Personally, I'm sorry to lose him but I feel his death was handled well.
My beef wasn't in how the death was handled, I mean it was handled well, however, I think they could have done more with him than without him in later seasons.

I personally thought it was obvious they were going to have another season, I mean Fisk mentioned they were going to have a file on Murdock and Foggy. Any source on when they said they regretted killing him off?
i agree. i loved the character and actor. it would have been better if Kinpin killed his wife, then he would have purpose to stop him.

Personally, I vote for someone underground taking over Ben's proposed online reporting blog, in his name; being purposefully mysterious about who it is. Leading the public to speculate Ben isn't dead (though the viewer knows he is), but the mystery reporter does stay honorable to Ben's principles.
Don't you mean Chinese? His Chinese (don't remember if it was mandarin or Cantonese) totally sounded like that.
Anyway, loved the show, the latter episodes dragged on a bit and lacked some of the impact the first ones had, but overall it was great. Looking forward to S2.
Oh and Fisk was fucking awesome. Foggy was pretty cool too, but sometimes he was off, I couldn't tell if it was because of the acting or the dialog. Ben was a fucking boss.

Whoa. This guy is seriously awesome. I think his fighting scenes really elevated both series.
That's great. I hope she gets included more in the season 2. She is much better character than Karen.
This sums up my thought pretty well. I hope the second season would have less of Karen and Foggy, they're just boring characters.
And I prefer the black suit better than the Daredevil's costume. I hope they tone it down a bit, it doesn't really suit the series' more realistic tone.
To add more, I vastly prefer the villain's scenes than the main heroes. It's so refreshing to see the bad guys dealing with their own politics and management. And they actually complain when the main villain keeps killing one after another, unlike in most series where they have a storage of brain dead loyal zombies to play with the main hero.
I also like that Matt got roasted by Foggy for keeping his secret for all these years they've been together. It never makes sense to me that most superheroes can keep their secret identities for years from their closest friends and families. Always feel like a dick move to pull.

I didn't mind the costume. Matt was getting his ass kicked(a bit much given his abilities lol) so he needed armor of some kind.
Odd that he could match up against the person who trained him but got his ass beat by random thugs at times.

Honestly, this is the route I'd want them to go down.
Yeah. And in Foggy's case it wasn't only about a hero keeping a secret identity, but the fact that it also meant that Matt secretly always knew when he was lying, what he was feeling, etc. Finding out about Matt's abilities colored their whole friendship in a different way for Foggy, which made his reaction totally justified. I like that they got over that in the first season, their relationship in the show has the potential of covering interesting ground with Foggy knowing about it.
Why does this series seem so low budget compared to House of Cards and such?
1. The costume looks dumb. Man they missed the mark.
2. The side characters are annoying
3. Is Hell's Kitchen really tiny or something? How does he get around? He literally walks everywhere? So there's literally like a 2 hour commute between every scene off screen? How did he drag himself back to his apartment from the docks after the ninja fight?
4. Little things bug me, like how "the only good cop" character just happens to be the patrol officer that shows up after the final fight between Fisk and Daredevil. Seems really unrealistic. How small is this police force?
5. I don't understand their law business. Does Karen get paid? What does she do exactly?
6. Why is Foggy so pissed for multiple episodes? Get over it. There are many reasons why someone would keep their superhero identity a secret. Jesus.
7. Fisk is a great villain but I don't understand his motivations for building up the city or whatever. What's so great about Hell's Kitchen that everyone's obsessing over it?

Damn...... joss is waaaaaaaaaay off. Spider-Man or iron man...this is a good show but as a superhero DD is b teir at best but I'm reaaally biased Batman is my all time favorite.

Yeah I really didn't understand the Foggy thing. He acted like Matt had cheated on him or something, it really doesn't fit the character very well either as they go out of their way to show him as an opportunist and a pragmatist.
The show looks too dark, which is generally a hallmark of cheap productions. Not sure why that's the case here.
All in all it's like someone took the Affleck Daredevil and stretched it out to 13 hours and removed the best part, Bullseye. On the plus side Cox is infinitely better than Affleck, and I really liked the relationship of the three core characters.
I'll stick around for season two but if it's as methodical as the first I doubt I'll see it through.

I must admit, I didn't think the darkness in Daredevil came of nearly the same way as typical cheap TV shows. It's much more colorful with interesting set pieces for a lot of sets. There's usual some amber light and neon framing night time streets. And lots of interior shots contrast dark rooms with neon flooding through the windows, seems to create the sense of the city closing in around hiding places.
Daredevil works way better as a series. Imagine the events of S1 crammed into a two hour film? You'd lose everything good (Matt/Foggy scenes, Matt's injuries lasting multiple episodes, Matt slowly taking down the crime families), and they'd feel required to put in Bullseye for the big end of film fight, when Bullseye needs to be set-up as a last resort for Fisk.
I would argue that any superhero story would work best as a show (with impossible budget effects but we're just dreaming here)

It's not just about that. It's also about Matt's hypocrisy: during the day he says that the only way to procceed is through the law. During the night he beats up goons and gets information through violence and threats.

Crazy how much episode 7 "Stick" stands out, and for the wrong reasons.
Absolutely dire episode, and as soon as the next episode begins, the quality is immediately back, it's very noticeable.
Just couldn't get on board with the old mentor thing, they tried way too hard to make him 'badass' and it just didn't work for me.

Never really cared for Daredevil honestly before seeing this show, and that has now changed. Vincent does absolute JUSTICE with Wilson Fisk's character, I wanted to like him but had to hate him since he's the bad guy but to see the childhood behind his "madness" was chillingly superb, making him more relatable than most typical comic book villains. Despite the rest of GAF's opinion, I rather liked Foggy and I didn't think Karen was that bad either. That blonde bimbo though, I forget her name, yeah....I wanted to jump off the top rope on her bougy ass quite a few times.

As someone who watches most costumed hero shows on television, this one was miles above the others. Granted, the Flash has been good and Arrow has had some really great high points, but this show in no way gets close to the teenage drama bullshit that a lot of prime-time television gets. I thought the first season was solid in every episode. Everyone did a great job, specifically the actors playing Fisk and Ben Urich.
As someone who watches most costumed hero shows on television, this one was miles above the others. Overall, probably the best show I've watched in years. 9.5/10.
- The costume reveal and final fight with Fisk was perfect
- Charlie Cox was the best possible choice for Matt Murdock
- The deeper things got, the more I found myself getting annoyed with Karen
- Vincent D'nofrio deserves an Emmy nomination
- Ben Ulrich's death and funeral hit me harder than I expected it to, even though I saw it coming
- Scott Glenn was a great choice for Stick
- Needs more Rosario Dawson
- I quite liked Foggy's character. Not too annoying, and has some good bro moments
Overall, probably the best show I've watched in years. 9.5/10.
I didn't think it was "absolutely dire," though I do agree that it didn't feel like any of the other episodes. The tone was off, the theme felt more mystic (Especially with a kid being treated as a weapon in a series where all the weapons have explicitly been bombs, guns, knives, and the like prior), and above all, it felt more like it was building up The Hand for Season 2/Iron Fist rather than feeling connected to the rest of the series. That was probably the weakest part about the episode, in my opinion; with how gripping the rest of the plot was, it takes you out of Fisk's realm to look at vague visions of the series' inevitable kung-future with Iron Fist and K'un-L'un.

Agree. It's the episode that stuck out like a sore thumb for me too. It was just ...below the other episodes' par. I sort of got a little bit cringe whilst watching that one.

Nah as stated in my post I'm biased, BB is god tier level he's the best superhero in DC universe and no way is DD his equivalent. DD isn't even close as popular, I'm loving this show got three eps left, but still never really been a fan of the DD comics or his story. Real shame the movie exists... Because this show is ridiculously better in every way. Really sad for Deborah's character... was hoping for more of her even though she's great... I've never really followed the DD comic so I'm not sure if it's totally different but she seems like a better suit for DD than the foogy guy... Still liking it and look forward for more... Shame these shows take so long to make.. I watched 10 eps in one sitting lol..
They made a good chunk of cash in episode 3 when the bowling alley guy got off.
