The Witcher 3 - Official Xbox One gameplay

Haha no it doesn't. Combat looks way better and from what has been told by people who played it, improved over TW2. It's alright to have opinions, but to throw them over like they are facts? Yeah, no.
It still looks bad. The menu system and combat system looks Damn similar. The HUD looks similar. The map looks similar. None of these elements are things I think are strengths.

The graphics look great and I'm sure the game will have a good story and review really well since it is going to be a very long game with lots of side quests, but it doesn't look to me like they have fixed the things I have had a problem with.

Those xbone achievement pop-ins are disgusting, glad I don't have to suffer that.
Although I assume they are disableable ?

Game looks great though. Love the combat, ever so closer to the books.

1. Yes you can disable/customize any notification.
2. Why "disgusting"? the trophy popups on my PS4 aren't really different....

So 1080pr, which I think is a good thing. Can't really discern image quality with that awful youtube compression, and I'm still downloading the gamersyde version.

Those achievement popups though... absolutely disgusting.

good that you can disable it. I just find it ugly and immersion breaking. Steam has it much better in my opinion. But I have them disabled there too, usually.

Hey blim, just wanna say a BIG thank you for the amazing work that is gamersyde. It's the only way to really see what we will get in terms of graphics for all games today without shitty compression. Keep it up man, you are a hero (at least for me :) )

I agree with this man.

Yeah, seriously. I'm sure my ISP hates him though.

If the difference between 1080P and 900P Is as noticeable as some make it our to be here then wouldn't this effect be super jarring?

Seeing a 900p game and a 1080p game next to each other on 2 screens and you'd notice the difference but when a game is switching between the 2 dynamically during gameplay I highly doubt you're ever going to stop and be like "oh look, it's switched to a lower res". It's pretty much a non issue. It makes more sense to me just to keep it at 900p if it can't keep steady at 1080p but maybe that's why I'm not a game dev.

Players are partly to blame for that. I've seen videos of The Witcher 3 combat on gamersyde that looked great when played by developpers that knew what they were doing. Most of the players in recent videos most likely didn't have the chance to play a whole lot of the game, and mostly just step dodge in all directions as a semblance of footwork. Sort of like in Bloodborne when players always step-in, back step or side steps continuously whenever they have ennemies in front of them, it can look tedious and bad.

Inventory looks to be better and HUD can be customised.

Tree pop in and out is pretty bad, seems an auto jump happens as well. Very immersive breaking.

The trees are removed far too early. I don't like it when just walking but in combat with the early removal they disappear and reappear all the time when they should just remain

A close approximation would be to take a 1080 image and use Microsoft Paint.

First scale it to a vertical 900 pixels and then re-scale it back to 1080 vertical pixels

You will notice fine details get a bit fuzzy. (Things made with fine lines or fine details on textures)

Note: Open 2 copies of the original picture. Do the scaling on one of them and then go full screen and flip between the 2 pictures

double this

Is there any HQ non-YouTube footage of PS4 out yet? I know some PlayStation channels uploaded them but I think it's all the low quality stuff.

Go play bloodborne.

There are things wrong with "souls" games, but the combat certainly isn't one of them. You chose the worst element of those games to have an issue with, particularly since you haven't played it.

I own the witcher 1 and 2 and completely agree that the combat in each game is bad. It doesn't make me a troll at all. The combat in this trailer looks exactly the same as the previous two games.

What? How can you say that when the combat systems of the first two games are entirely different to begin with?

I agree that the combat in those games were pretty bad but I don't see what's so bad about the one in Witcher 3. It looks a lot more responsive and fluid to me. Surely it's hard to say anything for sure without playing it but I think it looks quite enjoyable.

so its like dead rising 3's scaling resolution depending on framerate.....that's pretty cool, was great tech to be honest and will probably be used in the future more often...giving calm scenarios that really clean look where when action gets heavy it downs it because half the time with that much shit going on, no one is really paying attention at that point.

Worked for DR3....which Ioved....so bring it on!

From what I've seen, bloodbornes combat isn't all that great either.

Lmfao

I love it when people make it so easily known that their opinions can be disregarded. Bloodborne's combat is sublime. I'm not expecting Witcher 3 to hit that level but I'm not going to have any issues with it considering how much I enjoyed W2's combat.

Thanks BLIM! :D Looks fantastic! I'm pretty damn excited to play this :). Hopefully i'll have time between this and my family.. psh

However, It's pretty intereseting to me that people in a gaming forum don't know what dynamic resolution/scaling means. We've already did this song and dance with COD: AW last year. always 1080p due to hardware upscaler, just native at 1080p when certain requirements are met then upscaled from 900p when the requirements are not. If im wrong, please advise.

If that what makes an expereince unenjoyable on your xbox one, then by all means, play something else. Seriously, all this nit picking and toxicity around anything for any game makes discouraged about the future of community for games. I wonder if there is a forum for movies where everyones hates blockbuster movies, call all indies shit and think one production company is pr hollowman. where do these people come from? The ones who want to see the world burn...

Only have PS4 and X1, no steam so I couldn't tell.
The green color they have in that video is automatically changed to the color you pick for the UI. If you don't care about cheevos and disable them anyways why do you care?
I like to know when I get an achievement and I can't think of a different way to show them....

Those violins? Its witcher 2 all over again, hated wondering through the forest because the music was too morbid. Im not expecting JRPG cutesy music, more like Fable or even DA:I. Hope i dont regret preloading this :/

Something like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tInTnPOeeZ4&list=PL49BFE8EC46EB1047&index=4

Fable <3

Yeah, Fable had a great soundtrack, but I think it's a little too happy and, dare I say, juvenile-sounding for a more mature and gritty RPG like The Witcher.

I suppose you could always play custom music from a USB while playing the game, presuming you'll be playing on PS4.

Looks fantastic. Perhaps the faith so many wasn't misplaced after all.

Nice job, troll. Considering your avatar, I'm shocked you'd say that. From what I've seen, bloodbornes combat isn't all that great either.

I expect this user to be either inane or a child.

That might not be items popping in, it could be culling those items to make the view of combat cleaner. Instead of making things go transparent etc so you can see your character through them. Some games might just make them disappear during combat.

I could be wrong though!

That's exactly what it is.

Seriously. Honestly puzzled at the "combat looks bad" comments.

I assume it's because it looks exactly the same as the combat in W2 , which was far and away the weakest part of the game.

I really struggle to get by it myself and if the rest of W2 hadn't had been so solid then it would have been dumped long before the end.

However having said that I'll plat W3 before passing judgement on the combat , it could easily be better than it looks in GIF's.

This wouldn't really fit The Witcher.

I think he's saying they disappear too soon--they are definintely being hidden to give a better view of the combat. I don't really mind it.

Not sure what he means by auto-jump, though.

I am pretty sure the trees just appear/disappear depending on the camera position. The trees appear when he dodges away because they are not in the way anymore. Not that he automatically jumps because a tree pops up.

Sure, it might look a little silly, but I'd rather take that than having trees in the way in combat.

Nah that sounds right, looks like the game has alot of vegetation. Other wise it would be a very frustrating camera.

Clearly the player doesn't completely understand how to play, and clearly there is some incredibly jank animation canceling going on that makes things look a little messy.

But like another poster said, the developers play much better and make the combat look more exciting.

I don't necessarily agree with judging the combat based on every single gameplay vid featuring combat, unless of course you're familiar with a similar combat system. I've seen some boring looking Dark Souls vids, even though I know first hand those games have excellent combat. If I only saw those vids and had never really understood the Souls combat like I do, I would have thought "What the hell is this? Who cares? This doesn't look particularly good at all." In fact, I did those very things before sitting down and beating Dark Souls this past Christmas.

However, I was one of the outliers that enjoyed Witcher 2's. That had a frustrating curve, but it got exciting once the nuance clicked. Still jank tho. But because I came to enjoy it and this looks so much better, I am very excited for it.

Im not liking the pop-in that we see when Geralt is walking or riding a horse. It´s way to close to the camera, the pop-in should have further away so you would have a much harder time noticing it. It looks worse than it does from what I have seen in the PS4 version HQ stream.

Wat? You might not want to throw the word "troll" around like that....

I've not played either game, but Bloodborne's combat looks a lot better than TW3's.
