Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

Disappointed in the kickstarter. They have basically nothing to show, only promises. Also no option for DRM-free. I'll probably not back this.

Finally!!!

I'm really looking forward to this. But with it already being funded I think I'll wait and see with this one (and I would only have the money to get the $28 digital version anyway). The way Mighty N9 turned out still stings

That is your right. Seems a bunch of people have valid concerns about it. Wish I could help myself but god damn special edition physical boxes are my weakness.

The whole point of a kickstarster is to prove that the game has an audience so they can get the funds and START to make the game, so of course there's not much to show.

My 360 RROD'd halfway through Shadow Complex. At which point I chose to go full PC instead of trying to get my stupid 360 repaired or replaced again. That game is the only reason I would get another 360. So if it comes to the PC? Great.

But holy shit, this announcement and kickstarter have got me shitting bricks. Bricks I tell you! I want to donate thousands of dollars and freeze myself until 2017. Igavanias are my favorites, none of the other Metroid-alikes come close, even if they are still fun.

Where's that pic of Miller going "hnnnnng" when I need it?

*goes to seek extra employment*

I can't read this whole thread, but has it been mentioned that the actual budget for the game is about $5M, and the KS is just to show that there's demand to get the rest of the money from their secret publisher?

It has.

I've gotta ask: they've cited Xrd as an example of a game that shows how cool 2.5D can look, but I get the impression that a) $5m isn't nearly gonna cut it for a game with as much volume as a typical IGA game, and b) Xrd's look wasn't especially technically innovative or groundbreaking, it just required people who were willing to work really fuckin' hard to get it to look the way they wanted. I know you can't speak for ASW and that your game isn't even 2.5D but can you speak to this at all?

I wonder if I'll still be at the same address when this thing drops. Must remember to switch addresses if I move.
Main character looks like a Minbari.
Blame Sheridan.

I swear this isn't the first time I've heard about something like this with Kickstarter, but can't recall what else there was.
I think the danger is without being transparent, people will assume that a game like this could be made for $500k or whatever they end up with. It raises expectations while lowering the cost of doing business.

Oh, looks like he is being a little more transparent in other interviews.

So a publisher is putting up 90% of the scaled planned development budget. Congrats for subsidizing a multi-million dollar company efforts.

If it was EA they'd almost assuredly fund the whole thing like they're doing for the game by the Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons people.

Most major publishers would.

That's why I'm guessing niche Western outfits since they clearly have money, but want some marketing footwork done for them.

I will see how this goes before I back anything because while they already crushed any hope of this coming out on Nintendo systems I want to know if a PS Vita port would be possible since I seen a few PS4/PS Vita releases already.

Bummer I was just about to sign up for the signed box tier and found out Kickstarter dumped the Amazon payment method? I really don't want to put my credit card info into any more systems.

Maybe I'll change my mind later.

Last time I heard this, it was for a certain game called Star Citizen. Though I don't expect this one to get as much funding.

I keep hearing different things about UE4 and Wii U. Does trying to run UE4 on WiiU make the Wii U explode? Or is jsut a lack of documentation and technical support that makes things tricky? There's a difference between "impossible due to power issues" and "harder to do because of obscure technical things that can be overcome with effort/time".

I know who it is, but wish they'd been transparent about it.

The only reason they weren't makes me think they think it's a liability.

My main concern, though, is that everyone understands that games cost money to make and have a sense of what the real budget of this game is.

It's probably a non-issue but I'd still like to know. Hope Iga and crew tell us soon.

Backed for a digital copy. Really glad Yamane is on board. Her sample theme for the game is great. A bit wary of Inti Creates though. Not a fan of their recent games.

Also happy it won't be held back my last gen hardware or handhelds.

...I have to pay for a digital key after buying a $65 physical copy? Yeah fuck that, Iga. I'm not paying $65 MORE for that.

KS legit cancelled.

Can't you just go with the physical now and then get the digital version when it launches? Not the best solution but it'd be less than $65.

There's such a thing called proof of concept. Do you think developers just take in three sheets of concept art when they are presenting a game to prospective publishers? "Trust us, it's gonna b awesome, give us tons of money now kthx". Hell no.

This should be the same thing, the fans/customers are just the executives sitting in the publisher's seat now. Make a compelling argument why we should fund your game, take a bit of a risk as a developer and pull money out of pocket to create a small prototype that shows the direction you are heading in. I think the game would have gotten actually significantly more funding if it did have something like that.

it's all about the director,
I would not worry about inti creates history.

That's precisely the point.

The guy has already made the compelling argument over the past 2 decades.

I agree with that, but so far the game is getting funded at a pretty nice speed and it seems like they only see KS as 10% of their budget so I'm sure they're going to be fine.

But here's the deal, this is IGA, I believe in him and he can take all my fucking money.

Obviously I don't know the internals for their business, but the characters / monsters being 2D should help keep the costs down.

So I think $5M is probably a reasonable budget for this by Western dev standards. On top of that, Japanese devs make very little money by comparison, so it could go even further with them.

maybe Sega ?

Actually it is kind of odd that they don't have digital copies as add ons that you can get with the higher tiers. No add ons at all though.

Is kickstater only available in the U.S?
or can castlevania Japanese gamers also fund the project?

I wondered how much Japanese players contribute to kick starer projects like these.
