Tom Brady suspended for 4 games; Patriots lose first-round draft pick; fined $1 mil

Because deflated footballs or not, they still would have destroyed the colts. Nothing can change that.

I'm not endorsing cheating obviously, but the patriots were the better team.

Look at it this way. Lebron with PEDs would trample me in a 1 on 1 pick up game. Lebron without PEDs would trample me in a 1 on 1 pick up game. One is cheating and the other isn't, why break the rules when not necessary? Before you say that I'm not a pro ball player, keep in mind that the Colts aren't a real NFL defense.

Sure they beat the Hawks but every given Sunday is the name of the game. Shouldn't have to break rules to get there. The Colts aren't the only team that they've done this against and a history of cheating, murdering, and stealing was taken into account!

The penalties are almost certainly for non co-operation with the investigation in the main. The NFL can't subpoena it relies on the carrot and the stick for co-operation. Come clean you get the carrot of reduced punishment, fail to co-operate you get the stick. It's stick time, baby!

Yep, this is all about lying with Goodell.

Sorry. To Goodell. Roger Goodell doesn't give a damn about you lying, he loves lying himself, it's one of his favorite pastimes. Just don't lie to him about his investigations. He's the only one who is supposed to lie about NFL investigations.

That's not what I said at all. I want to know what allows you to make the jump to "Brady!".

Who handles the ball more than any other position?

Why did Brady try to get into contact with ball boys after six months of no communication, right after the title game? And then speak 25 minutes with them?

Did you even read a summary of the report?

C'mon, man. Were you born yesterday?

This isn't the Black Sox Scandal, but he broke the rules.

Should have been life.

The Black Sox, Pete Rose, and Tim Donaghy were all gone as soon as they got caught cheating. The Pats are still just fine after getting caught multiple times.

It's disgusting.

Black Sox Scandal, the one where players threw the world series?

You're comparing that, to this?

cmon now

It's the standard of proof in almost all civil cases in almost all jurisdictions across the world. They do not have prove anything beyond reasonable doubt, only that on the evidence, the occurrence of the event was more likely than not.

Even then I imagine the majority of the punishment is for failure to co-operate fully with the investigation.

Statistically, that is created by showing how unlikely anything else would be. They haven't done that in their report. Their argument boils down to "because, duh!".

Suspension should be for postseason games only to really make a difference. This basically let's him take a month vacation before coming back and leading the team back to the playoffs.

Miss the Super Bowl or force a couple of first round exits? You won't ever see anyone dumb enough to do this again.

how is weak? in fact Imo the whole thing is too harsh and they should appeal like now. Do not allow this.

It's weak because of the blatant lying and complete disregard for the integrity of the game, or really "integrity" itself as a concept.

If Brady had simply owned up to it and the Pats didn't try and stonewall and defiantly demand an apology then pretty much nothing would've happened.

4 games? Gonna get dropped to 2 with an appeal, leaving the Pats to face the Steelers (minus Bell) and the Bills without Brady.

As a Pats fan, that's something I can live with. Thanks NFL.

From Troy Vincent's letter to Tom Brady:

"With respect to your particular involvement, the report established that there is substantial and credible evidence to conclude you were at least generally aware of the actions of the Patriots' employees involved in the deflation of the footballs and that it was unlikely that their actions were done without your knowledge. Moreover, the report documents your failure to cooperate fully and candidly with the investigation, including by refusing to produce any relevant electronic evidence (emails, texts, etc.), despite being offered extraordinary safeguards by the investigators to protect unrelated personal information, and by providing testimony that the report concludes was not plausible and contradicted by other evidence.

"Your actions as set forth in the report clearly constitute conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the game of professional football. The integrity of the game is of paramount importance to everyone in our league, and requires unshakable commitment to fairness and compliance with the playing rules. Each player, no matter how accomplished and otherwise respected, has an obligation to comply with the rules and must be held accountable for his actions when those rules are violated and the public's confidence in the game is called into question."
.

Wait why? That is a legitimate question. Some of you guys look at this stuff in such a weird, twisted way. Rodgers should be investigated and potentially punished for those comments also. The NFL has set the bar with this type of cheating with these punishments, and now they should follow up any other teams where this may have occurred. It's just logical. Not following up on those comments just makes this look like a witch hunt for one specific team.

it was a witch hunt for one specific team

The NCAA would have vacated their championship. NFL let the Pats and Brady off easy

Yeah, and then give them back if it's a team the NCAA really likes.

The NCAA is the last organization that should be brought up in this.

The NFL and NCAA are the absolute worse in this regard. They just make up whatever punishment they want with no precedent.

The Patriots are going down in history as one of the most tainted teams ever.

Between Spygate and Deflategate...

Not to mention the bogus "tuck" rule created FOR them and the "sneak-eligible receiver" stuff...

SMH

I wonder if Brady will for the bill. I can't imagine kraft being too happy about footing the bill.

Time to go back to enjoying being the defending champions

First question is irrelevant.

To understand what happened.

Yep.

I don't have to agree that he broke the rules. And if he appeals this, I have confidence this will punishment will be removed.

Jimmy-Garoppolo-140602-12.jpg

The Pats sure do like their good looking QBs :O

I'm jealous of his looks

I think people are letting their Patriots hate cloud their judgment, this is a really harsh penalty against someone for something that hasn't even been proven.

Statistically, that is created by showing how unlikely anything else would be. They haven't done that in their report. Their argument boils down to "because, duh!".

No it doesn't. The report is almost absurdly detailed and is written exactly to the standard of proof required. People see the prevaricated language in the report as a weakness of the case, but it's written like a lawyer aiming for the required standard of proof and not unnecessarily overreaching with unnecessarycertainty and opening up avenues of appeal.

You seem to think this is CSI or Law and Order, you'd be shocked at what is accepted as fact in a civil matter.

Yep. That sounds like Goodell. Laying down punishment based on public backlash and spite.

You guys wanted me to apologize? Go fuck yourselves, give me your draft picks......Kraft, I'll see you in the skybox for the Colts game.

Disclaimer: I believe you cheated, you gotta pay.

Now that's outta, does deflated ball help that much? Sorry, I'm not really an American Football fan.

rofl, yea the tuck rule was created just for us.

Oh, can't forget the eligible receiver play thats super secret. They tricked the Ravens so bad that they couldn't listen to the refs announce over the intercom about who not to cover.

This is some high quality salt right here.

See, at least you get it. They say things like "this is all about integrity!!!" then will fail to go after anyone else in the matter, even though some have public comments admitting to it.

But hey, I don't really expect the league to follow it up, it's evident they have and will continue to just make things up as they go along

Man, you're riding hard for your guy.

The punishment will not be removed and most likely not even reduced.

I actually like Brady and think a lot of this is overblown, but Tom did this for a team with a checkered past in terms of integrity and not cooperating with the investigation is a bad look.

he would have gotten much less if he would have cooperated with the investigation and turned over his phone.

or much much more...
