I can't believe the media is calling this punishment over the top. It's literally a slap on the wrist yet again. It's almost a given that he is going to win his appeal and get it dimmed down to 2 games.

What is 2 games? We know already the money fine is completely irrelevant. A loss of a first round draft pick is nothing considering they cheated their way to a fucking Super Bowl. This punishment is well worth it if you ask me from The Patriots viewpoint. It's nothing. The bad publicity hit them already whether the NFL did anything or not.

Because he will win his appeal it should have been 6 games, so that he would still be suspended for 4. The NFL hates punishing good players because it decreases the entertainment value. They never cared about the integrity of the game. They essentially allow all players to pretty much smoke marijuana by passing 1 simple drug test that every player that smokes, but Josh Gordon can pass with flying colors. I am curious what percentage of players are on steroids. And I honestly don't care about any of those two things, and don't mind that the NFL turns around on these issues. But the assault and cheating aspects must be taken seriously, and unfortunately they really aren't.

Punishing AP and Tom Brady doesn't help the NFL make money. This is all they care about. MLB has suspended some of the best players in their league. NBA forced an owner to sell their team...NFL is completely different breed.

Do people think the ideal gas law is absolute? That would be true if a football was a solid container, but the leather and bladder also react to heat and could shrink or expand. I'm not saying it would help or hurt, but it is not the silver bullet on either side.

Bob going in. He might have finally realized what a fucking loser Goodell is and the world can finally be rid of that silver spoon sucking moron.

What a joke from this agent.

He's right they made a poor judgement. An independent panel would've levied a harsher penalty tan the 1st draft ban. Be glad your cash cow isn't banned for the season or doesn't have to take those 4 games off during the playoffs.

Nobody is going to hand out that kind of fantasy penalty when there is no smoking gun. The fact that they even handed out any kind of penalty without definitive evidence is questionable, and in my opinion shouldn't even be legal.

I hope to see this reversed because it sets a ridiculous precedent. You need proof to hand down a penalty. Brady not handing over his phone and self-incriminating doesn't cut it. Those two goofs texting each other doesn't cut it. 'Probably' is not enough to convict someone.. it's just an opinion.

Nope. No entitled Patriots fans here. Not like they expect their owner to control the head of the entire NFL. <golf clap>

You realize Kraft is a huge reason Goodell has his job right? The NFL is an oligarchy. Goodell essentially works for Kraft, Jones, and two or three other owners.

Do the Jets face the Pats in the first 4 weeks? If not then the punishment is not long enough.

Week 6. I spent my tax refund to go see that game. Flying in from LA. Planning on seeing my Lombardi trophies before the game :)

Any source on that Bob Kraft response? I can't find it anywhere else.

If I was Brady I'd just retire and say forget it. Nothing he can do to get the taint of his cheating off his Super Bowl record. Nobody cares anymore how many he won.

The Patriots actually believe they are above the law. It's been that way for so long, I don't blame them for being under that impression.

I wonder how Brady and Belichick are rewarding those underlings for not ratting both of them out during the investigation.

The only guys who will never work in the league again are the equipment guys who were just following orders.

Kraft made Goodell. It's all I hear.

Shit, that's all people say when people mention Kraft and the punishments.

Yes; I know Goodell does. But that speaks volumes to how the Patriots (and their fans) feel about themselves. When they feel like they're unfairly punished; the response is "we're going to replace our puppet" not "We were unfairly treated".

I mean I am surprised they just suspended them, instead of firing them both. Guess they can be used in other cheating operations and sectors within the Pats organization.

So maybe letting some air out of some footballs is a more serious crime than almost killing your fiancé?

Actively harming the integrity of the game and acting above the reach of the NFL is certainly worse to the NFL than a guy admitting to a crime, recanting, while also being punished for it.

Kraft, Rooney, Mara, and Jones. You think the other 3 are gonna ditch Goodell for this you're goofy.

What I find strange is the some Patriots fans still think Kraft can control Goodell even after this fine and suspension.

Haha so much salt here.

'Cheating pays'. Get the fuck out of here. There are multiple QBs who have openly admitted that they like the ball... manicured to their specifications. Are they dirty cheaters too? Or does it only matter because it's the Patriots?

And this is coming from a Giants fan. Who gives a shit about deflated footballs... It doesn't really change anything.

lol, you must have selective eyesight or something.

everyone said with the pats said the punishment are bullshit, it's just stating the facts that Goodell wouldn't be where he is at without the support of Kraft.

But no, I think you're right. Us Patriot fans just feel completely superior than everyone else. We are the perfect NFL team and the perfect NFL fanbase, I think you're spot on!

No matter what I have no hate for the Giants.

I like you even more now.

Kraft isn't the only owner propping up Goodell and the other owners sure as hell aren't going to back Kraft on this one.

I think the point is that Kraft has been a big supporter of Goodell in the past and he may have lost him as a powerful ally in the future. Not that this should be a consideration when Goodell is passing judgement.

If this were any other team; and the owner were appealing (say, for instance, Tom Benson and appealing Bountygate..)...would this be said?

Bob going in. He might have finally realized what a fucking loser Goodell is and the world can finally be rid of that silver spoon sucking moron.

I rest my case.

They think they're getting an easy retirement on the beach, but much like the video tapers, Whitman, Price and Haddad, they'll be corpses deep in the bowels of Gillette.

For reference.

They aren't fired. They'll be back in 2016.

I'm pumped for next season. Brady with a chip on his shoulder best Brady. Plus I get to see the man in person.

Punishing AP and Tom Brady doesn't help the NFL make money. This is all they care about. MLB has suspended some of the best players in their league. NBA forced an owner to sell their team...NFL is completely different breed.

You are all over the place and wrong. MLB first fostered the Steroid era until it bit them in the ass and congress was involved.

NBA knew Sterling was an asshole racist slumlord for decades but waited until there was TAPE! to finally kick him out of the league.

The NFL is no different. People keep bringing up integrity this or integrity that without providing any real points. Players cheat. In every sport. Name me a sport where players don't at least attempt to.

The NFL hands out PED suspensions every year. The thought was they would never suspend/punish Brady. Well they did. And they went beyond and hit the owner, the organization, and their whole legacy.

What exactly did people want? To strip the SB and do what? Give it to Seahawks? Why? That game was probably the only time they didn't cheat and Seahawks just gave it away.

4 games is huge when its your QB and you can possibly start the season 1-3 or 0-4. Hell some 90% of team who start 0-2 don't make the playoffs.

I'll take a mill out my pocket, first/second rounder, and 4 games off if it meant a super bowl ring; which is basically what has happened here...

They still made out like bandits in the end.

Actively harming the integrity of the game and acting above the reach of the NFL is certainly worse to the NFL than a guy admitting to a crime, recanting, while also being punished for it.

The nfl's handling of this and other situations showed that there is no integrity in the nfl. They just want their dollars. Actively harming the integrity of the game is only worth a 4 game suspension from arguably the face of the nfl? And a million dollar fine for a billionaire that will make that back during the first preseason game? You want integrity in the game and to set an example you don't initially suspend a woman beater for two games and a proven cheater for four. This is complete bs just like everything else they do.

The court rules in me, you rested too early with insufficient evidence.

Eh, I can only find insane responses so often. Let's check back in this thread in a couple of hours. :-p

If Kraft goes hard after Goodell (who, by the way, is who his appeal would go to, because of the CBA that the owners wanted dictated on the players, oops); I'm super curious to see how it all plays out. The owners have always been very coordinated against the players and the commissioner has always been viewed sort of (wrongly) as someone who runs the league rather than works for the owners, and much of Goodell's power and authority comes from that "doing stuff that is best for the league" viewpoint rather than "stooge of the owners". Now? Is Goodell going to be a commissioner, or a stooge of the owners?
