Do the Seahawks still exist as an organization? Is Cheatin Pete still the coach? Taking care of that would demonstrate a commitment to taking care of PED's. Until then, the NFL is tacitly supporting their use.

Player's missing a quarter of a season for their first offense is supporting their use?

lol

I LOVE that the Patriots are fighting this. Keep digging that hole, bros. Get the lawyers involved, let's subpoena all those records.

Mr. Kraft, I'm still waiting for your apology. Same to you, Mr. Brady.

I'm a lions fan. You seem to hate Brady. Also, it'd extremely overblown at this point, and I wish you guys had more anger towards NFL regarding part time refs. If we had full time refs they could measure the balls of every team and make sure all balls are the correct size. After all this is all balls to the wall issue.

The NFL would also have to remove the rule that allows teams to prepare and bring their own balls, and instead the NFL would supply all balls at exactly the same PSI. The fact that you could have a variance of 1 psi and QB's were allowed to modify the outside of the ball would indicate that the footballs were never equal.

The Patriots make a strong case in their rebuttal.

It's definitely true that the the false statements about the measurements stood for so long that the Patriots were never given a chance in public opinion. Early on we were told the Patriots had a ball measured at 10.1 and all the Colts were in the legal range. This completely formed public opinion that they were obviously guilty, we heard nothing but jokes about flat balls.

Only later do we find that, using the logo gauge (the one the official thought he used), the Patriots average 11.49 at halftime, exactly what you would expect scientifically if they measured 12.5 on that gauge to start the game. And that the Colts only had 4 balls tested, and 3 of the 4 tested under the minimum by at least one gauge. Proving not only that the evidence is weak to support the Patriots deflating the balls, but that even if they did it would only have been by a tiny amount.

The entire controversy, once you realize the early reports were false, is over whether or not they let a tiny amount of air out, when other teams have manipulated the pressure with sideline heaters and been let off with a warning, or applied banned adhesive substances and got basically no punishment. It's absurd.

And that's before even getting to the NFL's procedure. They use multiple gauges which average .38 difference, and they don't keep track of which they are using, nor do they write down the measurements. They switch gauges seemingly at random. And when they think a ball is under-inflated using this imprecise procedure, they inflate it themselves, sometimes well over their own legal limit! It could not be more clear that they didn't care about getting the pressure within their stated limits.

Meanwhile, despite the free, humorous language used in the texts, there was still not a single one that said Brady wanted balls deflated under the legal limit.

That Goddell controls if their is an independent arbitrator or not makes it a pretty crappy union contract.

I can an independent arbitrator overturning it for lack of past precedent, proportionality, etc. But I had no idea the union gave so much away in regards to discipline.

Owners still back Goodell because he destroyed the union in their last CBA.

I'm sorry but the NFL ignoring the logo gauge differences and the ideal gas law is a joke. This a witch hunt by the commish and ignores common logic.

So supposedly when he sent the text deflate... give someone that jckt... this is what he was referring to.

Dumbest controversy ever. Up there with pine tar.

True, although the early false reports are what really got this started. ESPN reported that 11 of 12 Patriots balls were 2+ PSI under the limit, including one 2.4 under. That might be a noticeable difference.

Now we find out that, according to the official in question, they were 1 PSI under the limit, which is exactly what would be predicted given game day conditions. So there was no evidence of deflating... but even if they did deflate the balls, it could only have been by such a small amount that it would have no effect. Which makes it an incredibly dumb controversy.

The proper response would have been the NFL deciding whether or not it cares about ball pressure, and changing their procedure accordingly. If they decided they did care, they could buy the officials some decent gauges (as opposed to the ones they used which averaged .38 difference and were used interchangeably) and tell them to keep track of measurements, and re-measure after inflating. So they wouldn't inflate the balls up to 16, 2.5 PSI above their own maximum limit.

I'm not sure what we're supposed to take away from this.

Stop carrying Brady's jacket and go deflate some footballs. (rally I have no clue, was an away game.. why are these guys using "Deflate" so much lol)

Clearly it had nothing to do with weight loss.. it never made sense in the first place, the Patriots "context" complaint seemed to have missed the part where it was the not-fat guy who was told to "deflate."

Um, even most pats fans have accepted they cheated and have moved on to "everyone is doing it " and "they'd have won anyway."

It's time to let it go, like a flaccid pigskin.

Only thing they have on Brady is not turning over data from his phone. Favre did the same thing during his dick pic scandal. He was fined 50k and that's it.

He looks kind of fat in that picture though with the way his coat fits. Maybe that is the joke (fatter guy telling his friend to "deflate" because he looks fat in his coat).

Like you said though, we have no real clue what they mean sometimes. That's an inherent problem of reading texts between two people with inside jokes.

Most Pats fans thought they cheated when all they had was false ESPN reports of 2+ PSI differences.

Now that it comes out it was 1 PSI, and 1 PSI is fully explained by game day conditions, you'll see more Pats fans saying "wait a second, maybe they didn't cheat" and "with these new measurements, the worst case scenario is removing an unnoticeable amount of air, what is this controversy?"

most likely. I expect this will end well for Brady. NFL...not so much. It really should have been a fine and move on.

This has been going on for 115 days. That's impossibly incompetent. Regardless of how this ends, it's clear Goodell can't handle even the most minor situations. He'll be gone sooner than later. NFL cares about its image and right now it's a bumbling mess.
