Witcher 3 downgrade arguments in here and nowhere else

It's fascinating how tables have turned in a couple of weeks. Everyone was going bonkers about the console versions. Now the console versions are pretty as hell, while PC version...

*wtf images*
At least we get nude mods for Geralt's sexy ass #notgaybutknowsagoodlookingmanwhenheseesone

Brutal. Either CDPR are fucking wizards and made a god tier optimization to the ps4 version, making it run on pc ultra settings sans hairworks, or the PC version makes no use of additional features routinely found in pc versions of multiplat games.

This makes the most sense. There will be outrage from the PC gamers I'm sure. CDPR may patch the game up later on. The foliage is the first thing I would hit with getting self-shadowing back in. Then introducing tessellation for the terrain and stuff.

HairWorks ruins his hairline and hairstyle confirmed.

The PC "Ultra" (LOL) version is identical to what PCGH showed today. The hair seems all messed up in the bath tub scene. Yen is wearing underwear but no bra. AO is a bit wonky.

And there there is another video released yesterday, marked in "???" that looks slightly better than the PS4 version (better soft lighting), has xbox controller prompts, is drastically better than the PC "Ultra" version AND Yen is completely naked

My mind is full of Whaddafuckkk
Saw some screens on Twitter from the PS4 version a few minutes ago and the naked version with the towel on her hair was what it was. I have no idea what those differences are due to.

Yeah the PS4 version is legit for sure. It's just censored in the middle east. The version where Yen is wearing underwear but no bra is extremely suspect. It's neither censored nor uncensored. The "???" version is what i suspect to be the true PC version, but there's no way to confirm since review websites out there seem to be running a different build

I don't know what your problem is, but apparently adding percentages up seems to be one of those problems. According to the steam survey aprox 22% of pc gamers have a gpu as good as or better than an xbone. thats dozens of millions of people. Even if you only count active steam users (and that would be wrong) thats more people than sony has sold ps4s.

There is also a few more variables such as people not participating in steam survey. I don't and I would be on the higher end of things. There is also 12 percent unknown stat on there.

I forgot it was censored in some regions. Never think about that since I'm in the US.

So… since the PCGH version also has Yen in an underwear without bra (and the fact that the comparison video got taken down) leads me to believe the build they have is from God knows when. Their whole analysis and screenshot set is most likely obsolete. Boggles my mind.

I have a question.

Has anyone in here actually cancelled their pre-order after seeing the downgrade?

I just cancelled my CE of the PC version. Mostly because even though I do want to play this game I do not want to play it for $150+ anymore and other things have come up that the money would better go towards. I was also going to get a new video card but after this "downgrade" and reading articles of it getting great performance at high settings with 2GB video cards I don't see any reason to. I will pick it up on GoG most likely shortly after release or if there is a good sale for under $40. I've been burned by too many games on release recently and have decided to just cancel all pre-orders I have had in general.

I don't like Hairworks on Geralt and much prefer his normal hair. Wish there was just a toggle for the horses and monsters.

I would hope so.

Oh the irony when activated HairWorks turns all women's into Breaking Bad characters.
His hair looks like a powdered wig almost with HairWorks. Turns its flat and shiny, with extreme uniform edges. Doesn't have the tousled carefree active look that the standard hair has. hopefully a mod can make it so everything EXCEPT Geralt gets HairWorks.

I don't think anyone is expecting a huge visual upgrade in the next three days.

I was going by the post that the developer of CD Projekt made on the official forums, he made it seem like the version that was posted in that comparison is an unfinished version without all the bells and whistles on, but other then hairworks I don't expect much more visually. I bought the PS4 version, but was also debating getting the PC at a later time if it is that much more visually pleasing, may never come around to that for me now.

Apparently the towel disappears on PS4 and that shot was taken before. That scene is all over the place LOL

Yup that one most be from an older build since the picture is different then what we know it is now. That comparison looked botched from the beginning, there's no way that was PC Ultra, the comparison vid tells us that much.

No she stands up, takes it off her head and lets her hair down. That's how it's supposed to play out. Anyone playing the uncensored console version will confirm. This suspicious build has no towel at all. It just weirdly skips that scene altogether. That's the version PCGH and a few PC reviewers seem to have.

Ah, OK

Really weird. Wish CDPR would actually comment on some of this stuff.

I have all the consoles. I could care less what this plays best or looks better on. I also have a PC. That said, you act as if people with 8800's in their systems are the target audience. So the "point" your trying to make doesn't make any damn sense. You just come across as an asshole more than anything because your argument has no water and you are standing firm behind it while also being condescending and wrong to boot.

You cared more than you willing to admit judging from your emotional driven comments. Please roll back and read the survey again with your eyes wide open this time, it's not about what I like or what you like, it's about a day to day reality happening in this world. try not to calling anyone A-hole for helping you stop being delusional.

You tell me why you people always have to pollute the internet and preaching you none sense basement PC fantasy as if your imagery PC target audience is consist of 99.99% gamers with haswell-E I7 paired with Titan X on Quad SLI? yet 1080P is too much of a luxury PC gamers can't afford.

Watching the IGN footage earlier, I immediately got the impression that the lighting and shadows looked better than what I've seen so far. I figured it was the PC version but it didn't seem to have Hairworks enabled. Like I noticed it immediately. Areas where there was a lot of objects like towns and forests looked really good.

Someone at CDPR screwed up and sent out incorrect builds. They really seem to be working on it till the last minute, which explains why PC review copies never went out on time. Also explains why even Nvidia claimed they didn't have the final build for their specification chart released last night.

Beyond this horribly vitriolic comment, you do understand devs can target mid range and high end hardware at the same time right?

Otherwise AC Unity doesn't make sense as a product given your line of argumenation.

I've went over this so many times I even made an image to show how stupid the arguments regarding it are. But to cut it short, Steam's survey consists of loads of PCs. Even office PCs. Kids using dad's old PC. Stuff like that. It's not a particularly good measure. Besides that, I'm sure there's a huge amount of people capable of playing The Witcher 3 on a PC at 1080p.

I see

I think I'm just going to back out of this whole conversation until the game is out. Too confusing right now. Everyone seems to have different builds, patches, and platforms. Kind of a mess at this point.

Yeah. That's been the theme of the thread since the first post.

We need the final version fully patched before anything is compared.

To really get the most out of the hardware they needed to create specific assets though.
There is only so much you can do with scaling.

your cave seems to have a backdoor to this thread and a good supply of those comparison gifs. ;)

I'm outta here. My whole day is fucked! FUCKED! CDPR have handled this very poorly to say the least. It's their first time doing a simultaneous multi plat release, so they seem out of their depth in terms of release management and PR. So I kinda feel sorry for them, but I'm also really annoyed for spending so much time analyzing obsolete crap. MOTHERFUCKING FUCK!

…

Bye!

The PC version certainly seems to be coming in hot. From the streams it appears that baseline settings have no performance problems, but leaving things like MSAA broken right up to the release day is really weird. Their PR on this issue is just as chaotic as it has ever been.

I sure hope for cyberpunk they get their house in order. As whenever somebody speaks about some facet of the game, another person goes out and contradicts them and this isn't just about graphics but also gameplay systems.

I agree with this, but still, you have games like the crysis series where the gulf between low and high (even in asset quality) is intense. That would just mean having the medium settings having degraded mesh quality... like the old days.

It is how Star Citizen is made for example. Where the highest settings are the one's that are the target... and every setting below is a "downport" of sorts.

Transfering this idea over to this game, that would have meant über not being "nice extras" but rather.. the target. That would have the cascading effect though that the console versions assets or assets on high and medium would be less consistent.

Just give it a rest dude. Whatever "point" you're trying to make it isn't working.

So do we know if the animal hairworks stuff has been gimped/downgraded yet or not? Gonna be bummed if I can't witness that glorious horse hair mane swishing around :\
I don't know what was promised before, but on one german look at the game they mentioned that only Geralt and the horse got hairworks, but not one the women. Also it seem to be most of the time not very notable and at times even a bit strange. I am way if i even want to use Hairworks atm, but we'll see.

I'm fucking sorry for setting you the fuck off I feel like such a motherfucking jerkbag not for setting you off but for adding nothing to the discussion due to my lack of technical knowledge and cringe worthy attempts at humor so I'm leaving too but not like for realz i'll still lurk because I'm a loser.

PS fuck punctuation

I'm seriously confuzzled

Nope that's the old color palette they were using

No thats just shopped in.

To be precise, it is just a recreation from someone on the internet. Just an approximation.

No, it's just the same pic but edited. The final scene looks nothing like that.

neither of those is current media. its an old screen with modified color

nah it's just a screenshot they released color corrected via reshade, attempting to mimic the look of the original color palette.

Ok then so i guess nobody got to that part and taken a screenshot so we can see the difference?

It would be interesting

You do realize that the vast majority of sub 1080p users are people with their non-gaming laptops, typically with integrated graphics. People will play CS, TF2, DOTA2, etc on that type of laptop, they aren't the market for W3. 1080p monitors and video cards capable of decent 1080p performance (ps4 level or better) aren't expensive and are the intended market.

I think they didn't do that because consoles were highest priority and that approach would've hurt the outcome on consoles.
It also would've been a lot of work for a relatively small market in comparison.

This seems like the obvious answer. I'm conflicted on how I feel about it. On one hand I really like how they've grown as a company from being almost completely bankrupt and their games speak for themselves. They've told some of the best written stories in RPG's and seem to really respond to criticism in that they try to improve each release and it shows. And in the past they've been very transparent with fans on their forums and with media outlets. But they've seemingly(it seems), have definitely not embraced the PC as they had in the past and definitely made some compromises. Especially since in the release trailer it mentions an RPG, with no compromises.

But I also think the game they are releasing still looks fantastic and am just on a Witcher frenzy right now with the books. To me it's the best looking open world I've ever seen and can't wait to experience it at 60fps.

try again ,the inability to make a decent come back and denial. It's not helping you. I don't think real world reality need your approval to exist.. If I were you, I would just accept what's real and carry on. In the end of day, all game studios have their survey tools to find the middle ground according to majority player base and make their product.
