Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

Is it selfish to not care if this game gets a wiiu port? It's coming in 2017, won't the NX be out sometime shortly after that? Not to mention a port like that would probably come out delayed from the initial release.

No, it's not. A port to a console that doesn't support the game's primary engine shouldn't be inherently expected. It would be really selfish to be upset with a Wii U port existing, but from looking at the comments of people asking for the port ("put it where it belongs!"), I'd wager most of them have have alternative means to play the game.

We're making a lot of assumptions about the NX including when its planned to be released, what, if it'll support/be supported by ue4, if it'll really be nintendo's next gen console/handheld or something else.

If Bloodstained is going to come to Nintendo it's most likely going to be a WiiU stretch goal towards the end of the campaign for a down port with plans for other systems that can't run ue4. It actually makes a lot of sense to save such a stretch goal for the final few days as it'll give an opportunity for people who haven't backed due to not having a ps4/xb1/gaming pc to jump in.

The best strech goal for Nintendo would be to port it to any Nintendo system that supports UE4 between now and Q1 2017, or even after. Either NX or something else.

It's also why of all PC games the only one I want to buy physically in the near future is Witcher 3. Reasonably sure the game will be DRM free, at worst being tied down to some way in GOG, and they've been good about physical goods in the past. Though I haven't paid the closest attention to how good they'll be with 3 compared with 2, it SEEMS the console versions are in a box but they could well be more basic packages.

EDIT; Eh, seems solid... though I'd probably buy PS4 when convenient because the last two times I got the games on PC they ate them alive. Even if I probably just need a new video card this time it's not something I really feel like dealing with barring something crazy like winning the lottery.

This makes me sound old, but I miss the old days where PC games came in grand packages with no DRM. That said, due to the rampant piracy, I don't blame devs for adopting the current model.

Not to mention a port like that would probably come out delayed from the initial release. I'd rather see that time go in to making a better game, maybe with a deluxe release for nx launch or something like that.

Not at all considering that the systems like Wii U or 3DS doesn't even support Unreal 4. Why should devs go beyond their capabilities just to please a select few who are upset because the game isn't going to their system of choice?

Just noticed the physical 60 dollar tier does not include a digital copy. I don't want to wait for this homeboy in the mail to play it.

Fangamer is doing fulfillment for both this and MN9, right? Might be worth waiting to see how they handle physical fulfillment there.

Then again there's a difference between shipping novelties and shipping THE game.

You are going to be waiting at least two years to play it anyway~ :3

It's a 9 year wait if you count from when OoE came out.

It's a 20 year wait if you wanted to play it on a console rather than a handheld.

49 years if you've been waiting since Koji Igarashi's birth.

2.8 million years if you've been waiting since the dawn of humanity.

On the bright side a few days for delivery isn't that big of a thing in comparison.

You've been waiting 13.8 billion years since the beginning of the Universe, assuming you subscribe to the Big Bang theory.

If you're a Young Earth Creationist, you've been waiting less than 10,000 years. Clearly Creationism is winning here.

Nah. If you've only been waiting 10,000 years for the game the day or two you're waiting for shipping are just going to feel that much more painful.

Don't most KS campaign also not have a physical console copy? Might be the console makers cut cutting into the viability of giving away both.

They're usually done as two separate keys, and two separate keys means two separate payments to platform holders, which is something you really want to avoid in a single sub-$100 KS pledge. I would imagine that you could work something out where the keys are the same between the digital and physical copies, but I think it would be a super niche audience who would really care about that (outside of a day one guarantee) and almost no chance it would be worth the effort.

Yeah it us pretty cool. It also makes me feel very, very old though.

Additionally the 9 year gap from OoE to this is kind of depressing.
Yeah, seriously. Its crazy to think we will likely go almost as long from OoE to this as SotN to OoE. As long a time potentially if delayed, but if they're slated to get most of the funding from mystery publisher maybe they were more grounded about estimated release than most.

My physical of Wasteland 2 had a digital key, and my physical came with a printed key that was unique. My Pillars of Eternity came with a digital key, and the box was empty. Uh, they said they're shipping discs separate, but not sure if it'll have a key.

I guess it's a bit selfish. Personally I would like everyone to be able to play this game, but realistically I'd say it's at least somewhat questionable as to whether or not it's going to be Ninty's current platform by 2017.

I think the best case scenario is the make the base game and have someone else port it to whatever the favored Nintendo platforms are near the end of the Dev cycle by outsourcing to someone reliable.

I'd really prefer the game not get delayed as we've already waited 13.8 billion years already for this game.

As long as people aren't assholes about it I don't think people are assholes if

A) They prefer the main game aim for the strongest platforms (multiple ones) possible and that no concessions be made in the design to accommodate less powerful ones.
B) They want a version of the game for the system of their choice if sufficient additional resources can be secured to make it happen. At this stage of development, its not port-begging.

Classic mode sounds awesome! Will it lock your jump arc so you can't change directions in the air? That would be cool!

This is actually something I considered. It would be pretty odd if they changed the controls for the mode. I'm hoping it will be challenging and built off what Miriam is normally capable of.

If they try to match the gameplay style of an older game there will be a ton of disagreements anyway so I think this is the best option.

Waiting on the sprite based 3DS version stretch goal. Where Igavania belongs.

I really hate that igavania went handheld only post SOTN in favor of a long series of so so to bad 3d ones on consoles.

Would have been awesome to have an HD, sprite based metroidvania, but alas, it never happened. Instead they just endlessly recycled SOTN's sprites on hand helds.

I recognize that this has very likely already been asked, so sorry about that, but I'm sorely tempted to dive in but I'm a PC gamer and I don't understand what the difference between $100 and $125 tiers (for example) is. What do they think a physical copy of a "Steam version" is and why would I pay the $125 tier to get a "digital copy" when one is already included in the $100 tier? Are they trying to say that I'd get a second Steam key with the $125? I'm so confused right now.

we need classic mode guys.

i need classic mode
It hurts how slow the KS has become. I know it was expected but it's painfull to see it stalling to a crawl. I hope it goes crazy on the last few days. I remember MN9 reeling in like $800,000 in the last 24 hours alone or something like that.

I'd assume the physical copy would have to be activated on steam and you'd have 2 separate codes.

I would really like this to go DRM free though even if only for backers.

You're basically getting a second copy of Bloodstained. One is just a digital key for Steam that you could sell or give to a friend and the other is also a Steam key but also comes with a physical game case and slipcover with a disc inside that you can use to install the game without having to wait for the download.

It's true that the physical package for the PC version isnt as enticing as the console ones due to it still needing a key that's forever going to be linked only to your Steam account.

That's exactly what they said.

As long as the PC version continues to be confirmed as Steam-only you'll never get a DRM free Bloodstained for PC.

In other words, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Saying I would like it and saying I expect it are two different things.

It does seem like a lot of games come out on Steam and are later available on GOG or such DRM free.

To me PC stands for PlayStation Companion though so I'll be getting it for PS4. I feel the physical version being DRM free would drastically improve the value of it though and I personally dislike DRM quite a bit so I would like to see it go that route even though I'm not really effected.

I was kidding. Need more emoticons! (Using the same logic, adding cheat codes would cost them 150 000 usd :=) )

Fair enough. Although to be fair Hayter took a pay cut for Twin Snakes which allowed the rest of the original English MGS1 cast to return so maybe he pulls down so serious cash for his VA work.

Maybe he was replaced in MGS5 due to the amount of cash he gets so they went with some hollywood actor to cut costs.

Thanks folks!

That was my assumption too, as noted, but are they aware of this? It sounds like they're not very aware of how Steam works and how it works is not exactly clear... Should I be worried about how the PC version will end up now? :(

But what's going to be on the disc on your physical copy, in that case? All physical indies I have is the disc with DRM-free on it and a Steam key somewhere in the packaging.

That is some Stockholm syndrome shit right there.
Well, never getting one there was disappointing, even if it was just asset recycled yet again at least the audio quality could be SotN quality again and the stereoscopic visuals can look pretty good with 2D assets. But instead we had to get the disappointing Mirror of Fate that's possibly even less like Classicvania than Iga's later games were.

But what I said is more about the appeal of getting an updated version of what we got on DS, and with the ability to reuse that stuff out of the picture, well, whats it really matter?

From what I understand it's a disc with a Steam key AND all the game content on it for you to install on your PC without having to wait for the download. Since the game is only on Steam you can't expect it to be DRM-free. At least not as far as we know..

the fuck bro?

if anything igavania is going back to where it belongs, it was staying in handheld hell for far too long.

If your concerned you should contact them directly. I think the PC version of the game will be fine but the physical copy is kind of pointless in it's currently planned state.

" handheld hell"

Talk about some console elitism SMH.
You can ignore it al you want, but during the GBA/DS days Igavanias built a solid fanbase on those platforms, and it's weird to see them neglect that.

Handhelds are on death's door in the US and are dramatically harder to work into a standard multiplatform development flow with a modern engine than PC/mobile/current consoles are. It's not an economical approach to take until you have a comfortable budget for everything else and can afford to put extra aside for ports that'll make up a small fraction of the total sales.
