The Witcher 3: Is your system ready - Nvidia official system requirements

Cross posting for relevance. Andy, anyway you could enlighten us, I am assuming the disparity between foliage in these Wild Hunt screens is HBAO+ not being active for whatever reason. Does that seem to be the situation to your eyes as well?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am holding onto the theory that HBAO+ is glitched in the review build, and only SSAO is working, even when HBAO+ is enabled in the UI.

That would explain the differences in foliage, as well as CDPR stating there was "something wrong" with the graphics of the review builds, enough so that it warranted taking down the videos.

Jesus. I better win that lottery today, otherwise I'd never be able to build a beast like this. But I mean, I got 4 out of 7 numbers right in last week's lottery and 3 right two weeks ago, surely I'll get 5 right this week? It's only logical

Hi Gaf, do you think I'd be better off playing the PS4 version? My laptop has the following specs:

Intel i7-3630QM
GeForce GT 650M 2xSLI
16 GB Ram

Your setup is just a hair above the PS4's GPU specs. So it comes down to what you'd prefer. On PC, the game is cheaper, youy'll have the option of mouse and keyboar dina ddition to gamepad, mods will be a thing in the future, and you cna make the graphics consessions you want to make to run at the frame rate you want to run at.

On console you have.... well, it's probably hooked up to your TV, so bigger screen. So unless you're willing to connect your lappy to your TV your PS4 might be a good way to play it on the couch.

Thanks! 4k60 of course! Hopefully I'll have some headroom for ini tweaks

Keep those fingers crossed! Any moment now...

I was going to count this, but your conclusion melted my heart <3

That bug isnt in the game anymore! :D

When that bug occured, GPU usage went down, not up.

I see. Not what happens now. It absolutely eats up anything I throw at it. Really puts the cards through their paces

Noticed an interesting thing while playing The Old Blood. My page file usage is through the roof, while my RAM usage is hovering around 50% tops. I've got 16 GB, so that should be more than enough for most games.

Weird that Windows is using the page file over physical memory. Any ideas?

Sure it's Windows and not another good IDTech5 feature?

Based on this: http://www.winbeta.org/news/amd-directx-12-will-finally-unlock-true-potential-your-multi-core-cpu

i built this machine:

FX 8370
16GB DDr 3 1866
an SSD that is somewhere in the case
Dual 980 msi SLI

now i want to see how far i can go with the witcher 3 and the next games, my idea of console is that i have 350 games installed on the 2 2 TB hdd ( 4 TB ) D & F and no dvd no installation no used games, easy way, i want to play something i click play,, sorry gamestop......

There is a sad side, everytime i start steam or origin or BLEAH UPLAY or gog i have at least 2 GB of updates, and i uninstalled PAYDAY 2......

O i forgot but i think that with "my console" i can also write a letter, i don't know i must check.....

Thanks a bunch! In that case, I'll play it on PC. Might upgrade in the future, but I'm not quite ready to do so at the moment. I have a controller, so if the need arises I can always hook it up to the TV.

Honestly, I'd go for PS4. We have no idea about SLI optimizations (atm) and how 'old' mobile GPUs are going to handle the game.

On paper your system is more powerfull then a PS4, but I would still recommend to buy the console version.

Should I even bother trying the witcher 3 on this pc guys?

AMD athlon II x4 645 processor
4gb ram
560 ti

I could run the witcher 2 ultra settings at around 30fps but I'm guessing the witcher 3 is gonna be a lot more demanding.

How is the ps4 version looking? I'm hoping to build something fresh next year so should I wait till then or does the ps4 version seem like it's pretty good?

Guys, honestly. This is not the performance thread. We are all taking , maybe more or less, educated guesses because we have no data atm.

Best answer is: maybe yes, probably no.

edit: In your position I'd pick up the ps4 version.

I do not think so. The 950m is significantly weaker then the bare minimum a gtx 660.
I see :/ Never played the The Witcher series (though I got the first two on Steam) and thought I might start with the new one after all this praise. However I'm not sure if I could ever finish a game this long at the moment, anyway. Might grab it next year or so for cheap, when I have a PS4 or, who knows, a gaming PC.

Good opportunity to take your time and play through the entire series imo.

Disable your page file.

I thought this was generally considered a bad idea?
Yeah, by people who read that it's a bad idea on the internet.

I do more with my PC than 99% of the population, and I haven't had a page file since I built a system with 12 GB of memory in 2009.

so in theory Im set to easily get 1080p ultra + hairworks or whatever its called?

i5 4690k
2 x gtx970 SLI
16gb ram

I've never understood how people can build a computer but not be able to make an educated estimate of how well teir rig will run a game going by its specs.

Building a computer is a matter of slotting things together in the only way they're able to slot together.

There's more to it if you know what you're doing (or care to find out) of course, but the basics of building a functioning computer take less knowledge and experience than understanding how all the parts work together.

I belong to the 99%, but I still agree with this. If your page file is being used in this day and age, you either have a memory leak, your application has a memory utilzation issue or you simply don't have enough available/addressable RAM. Page file usage is bad news for game performance.

Few games do require an existing page file though. :(

Would you recommend that even if you have 8 GB of RAM?
Depends on how much your software needs, but these days not really. I'd say 16 GB is the point where in the vast majority of cases you can happily disable your page file.

Examples? The only one I know is Warhammer 40k DoW, and that has a command line option to disable the check (and works perfectly without it).

Wasn't there a problem with GTAV when launching it or something?

I did that when I re-installed Windows before GTA arrived to get more space. But there was something about that game that didn't like me not having a page file, remember reading about it having a memory leak though.

I had to enable it again to stop getting memory errors.
