The Witcher 3 | Review Thread

I've heard several different things. Does anyone know if this game the last of The Witcher series? Or just the conclusion of Geralt's story? Or neither?

I'd be surprised if CD Projekt RED discontinued the series considering the acclaim and sales numbers this game is likely to put up, but some of the devs past comments seem to suggest it.

This is end of Geralt's story, but it doesn't mean end of Witcher games. For e.g. Ciri could be very interesting and strong protagonist for next story arc they come up with. That said their focus and manpower will be in development of Cyberpunk 2077 next, sci-fi open world RPG.

edit: beaten hard

Won't be able to play until next saturday, so if you can play monday or tuesday, consider yourself happy enough. I watched a couple videos/streams and I feel like the open world has a Rockstar/full of life and little things/secrets level, a RDR vibe (not only for the horse and the deep mini-games!)

Last of Geralt, as others have said, and they will also release at least 2 expansion packs that further expand the story of Geralt.

Finals week, followed by a vacation until June 1st....

It's going to take some real discipline to buckle my ass down and study here.

Anyone else so excited for this and nothing else, they just keep cycling through all the different Witcher threads barely checking the rest of Gaf?

I've reinstalled both Witcher 1 and 2 and now I'm still on GAF. I've never wished for a crack so bad...

So I just had to share how awesome this was. It's regarding the first boss I fought. No spoilers.

I am playing on the hardest difficulty and was getting my ass rocked by the boss. Couldn't even drop a quarter of the it's health. After my 5th attempt I was convinced this was too hard and I should lower the difficulty. But then I starting figuring out the pattern, using all my signs appropriately, and using the items/tools wisely. I dominated the boss like a Dark Soul's speedrunner on my next attempt.

On a side note, Gwent, the card mini game, is pretty damn fun. Kinda reminds me of FInal Fantasy 8's card game in a way.

Loving this game. IMHO everyone should start at least on hard (definitely not normal).

Hey guys, I swear I saw a thread dedicated to catching up on the story of The Witcher, but I can no longer find it.

I played 2 but would love to refresh my memory on the world and lore prior to playing 3.

Does anyone know of that thread?

Hey, I don't know where to ask this, but to get this day of release, is amazon the cheapest store to go to? I can get the standard edition for 53 bucks.

Anyone in this thread need a Roche game save where I rescued
Anais (gave to Natalis)
and everyone
except Saskia/Dragon
lives from Witcher 2? I just completed an easy speed run to import on Tuesday and I'll be happy to post it.

this game is DA: I all over again for me. no interest whatsoever despite GAF hype, even after I've watched some gameplay trailers. now, suddenly, 3 days before release I'm realizing "shit, this looks pretty cool." the lure of a good RPG never fails to get me.

ordering on amazon right now.

You know nothing Jon Snow.

The 10 hours I've played is much better than DA:I for me. It does resemble Skyrim/DA:I in the sense where it's open world...but the story and combat is WAYYY better. I would give it a shot but before you do, watch and read some recaps from the first two games. Best one I've personally found is Kotaku's: http://kotaku.com/a-beginner-s-guide-to-the-world-of-the-witcher-1704506152

Without a doubt, the combat, particularly in-doors, is going to turn a lot of people off.

Looks to be your best bet, Dany. My only other thought is to go to the buy/sell/thread and ask if someone is selling amazon credit at a discount

I'm fairly surprised combat wasn't more divisive in reviews. I guess the world and quests make up for it. I'm getting a Persona 4 kind of vibe here where, individually, the parts aren't as good as the whole, but the whole package is so brilliant that it doesn't matter.

As long as EVERY female character can be ploughed.

So the question is, does he just narrate his own accomplishments in an extremely exaggerated fashion, or does he actually see himself that way? I feel like a Dandelion game could be a delusion of grandeur simulator, where your character is an ... unreliable protagonist. You would "do" all the heroic shit, but in reality, you're just playing out the fantasy version of events that Dandelion writes in his head. The game would thus be completely over the top in representing Dandelion's heroics, and occasionally give subtle nods that the entire thing is bs.

Short question. I'm not really into RPG's, but I love the vibe ( Game of Thrones etc, )
Is this game for me? Watched several reviews, but can't make up my mind...seems beautiful but very overwhelming and deep for someone who's not into RPG's.

Heh.

It is always awkward to write about onself, yet I cannot shirk this duty. In an effort to preempt any accusations of partiality, I shall set down the humblest of notes, relating only the best-known facts. Dandelion -- in reality the viscount de Lettenhove, though titles are unimportant -- is a certified troubadour, a lecturer at Oxenfurt University, a persona known among society as a charmer, poet, dandy and unparalleled lover. Almost everyone north of the Yaruga has heard of him, and those who have not are either boors or simpletons or both, as a result of which their opinions do not matter in the slightest. Dandelion played a significant part in the most important events of the era. He loved, fought, negotiated, and acquired immense knowledge, even that of the forbidden variety. His works are a testimony of the times, but it is his moving poetic tropes that have brought him true fame. The important thing in this story is that Dandelion was a friend to Geralt of Rivia -- possibly his only true friend. He was Geralt's confidant, advisor and companion in misery (for it was impossible to experience good fortune in the witcher's company). What Geralt did, Dandelion faithfully recounted, and one should not give credence to those who accuse this humble chronicler of confabulating.

Discretion -- a virtue I have always professed -- obliges me to remain silent about the circumstances in which, therough the person of Vernon Roche, I began working with the Temerian intelligence service. Suffice it to say that there comes a moment in everyone's life when, facing great events, they cannot remain indifferent. And so I could not stand aside as history took shape before my very eyes. My dedication to the cause brought me to Flotsam at the time. There, through an unfortunate incident involving twins at the local brothel, a town guard, a dog, a cat and an oil lamp, I would up on the scaffold in the town square, from which I barely escaped with my life.

Hard to say, without knowing exactly what it is that turns you off about RPG's. Worst comes to worst you could always turn the difficulty way way down and probably ignore most of the complexities of the gameplay.

There's a GB video that might be helpful to you, if you don't mind spoiling the beginning of the game. It'll give you a good idea of what the gameplay is actually like, and hopefully whether you'll enjoy it or not.
Giant Bomb released a 'playdate' video of the Witcher 3 (basically a less structured quick look done live) where they played the first hour and a half of the game; Xbox One version. If you're hungry for footage this is a great video of real gameplay.

Aside from a bit of jank, it looks like it'll be a lot of fun.

Setting the difficulty...That could do the trick. What it is that turns me off is...Time.

I know I probably won't be able to spend enough time to get the most out of this game. My backlog is huge. Also...I'm very inexperienced in RPG's and it seems so overwhelming it kinda scares me... But then again,,,,I love the vibe.

@ LurkerPrime: Thanks for the link. Gonna look at it asap.

Oof. I suspect that even on "sneeze and they die" difficulty, this could be a monster so far as consuming your time goes. Estimates seem to be around
80+
hours to complete the main story?

Have any PC benchmarks (specifically CPU) surfaced yet? I searched Google and didn't turn up anything, but I know they usually surface in other languages first.. I don't know whether to go PS4 or PC.

I meant in the sense that I had no interest, then suddenly like 3 days before release I realize that it looks awesome and I want it. The same thing happened with DA: I when the reviews were out and I realized that it looked awesome too. Thanks for the link though!

Also this is my third post in a row where people haven't understood what I meant. I need to level up my posting skills or something.
