I wonder how long adding grass to a world would take?

Can you just go, okay flip the shit grass to the nicer grass?

Or would they have to lay it out twice or something.

Maybe not because the shit grass seems like a bigger patch or clump of it so the layout would be a bit different if it were more individual parts to it.

This narrative that PC was held back by PS4 is laughable. The PC held the PC back.

Just look at the steam hardware survey. The April 2015 numbers show that ~61% of the master race play at less than (not at) 1080p and ~80% have about 2GB or less of VRAM. Most have a dual core setup and high end GPU's aren't that prolific either.

If CDPR wants to sell it's game to an actual market, that's who they'll target. The PS4 is irrelevant to this as it sits somewhere in the middle of all those specs.

As others have said, PC games have scalable settings.. they're not consoles. Having settings which scale to a high level doesn't mean you have to exclude those on lower end systems or even address a different market.

You're addressing the exact same market, just your game is more scalable. Also, is the "master race" nonsense necessary?

I think the problem with watch dogs and now Witcher is that the development started way before the devs knew the specs of the current gen consoles. They had to make assumptions on what it could be, so before they do nothing, they targeted something. Then the consoles were released and they had to find a way to get it running the best way possible.

I think this will stop when we get a game were the development started in 2013/2014. Then we will get what we will see in first trailers.

Just my 2 cents...

I would like to be that optimistic, but it's happened even when the devs have a clear idea of the hardware that will be available. As I mentioned earlier, initial Crysis reveal presented a much higher fidelity environment in terms of lighting, foliage, ground textures. Not like anybody could actually play at the actual max settings when it came out anyway, but that's beside the point.

On that note, Uncharted 4 ;_;

The specs of the consoles were known by developers as of like late 2011. Only thing that changed was more memory and a weaker cpu with more cores.

I think we're safe with Uncharted, it honestly doesn't look that impressive, especially not after playing The Order.

And to go back on topic, did anyone from CD Projekt unofficially comment on this whole mess? I skimmed through the thread but I didn't find anything.

If I could choose only one post to sum up this thread... this would be it. A GAF contributor posts a stunningly beautiful shot of his actual gameplay on the retail release of this massive, open world game (on the PS4 no less)... and it's ignored. Why? Because it doesn't suit the narrative.

I'd call it sad, but it's far worse than that... it's GAF.

There is no narrative. The game clearly and obviously looks worse than when it was first shown, like I said way back on like page 3.. This isn't "Does The Witcher 3 look good?", it is "The Witcher 3 has been downgraded."

I don't think you understand how PC games work

Might have something to do with the thread title.

Ass Unity even at 900p30 is far more impressive than this game. Not surprising, since it doesn't even crack 2GB VRAM usage at 1080p. This game is in no way a benchmark of true console ability, and real next gen OW games like GTA6 or future Ubi titles will show how it's supposed to be done.

I'd say this game is far more telling of CDPR's ability to juggle simultaneous multiplat development than anything else - as in serviceable, at best. I'll make no comments about the egregious PR tactics that would make Ubi blush.

Is this sarcasm?

This argument is nonsense. It's not going to run on the people's computers you're saying are the target audience. The minimum required CPU for Witcher 3 is a quad core, so the fact that a lot of Steam's audience has dual cores clearly shows they aren't going for this mass of people.

Only a few devs target the lowest specs like Blizzard and Valve.

That's the thing though, ND dangled that stunner of a teaser, and then surprise surprise, actual gameplay much less impressive. Damn practice is everywhere.

No not unofficially.

Officially they're just repeating that bullshit the PR department wrote for them, in case someone asks about the downgrade.
If we ever hear the truth it will be anonymously from someone who wants to damage the company, because of obvious reasons.

I think the PS4 version looks incredible (aside from some dodgy framerate 5 hours in). took this earlier:

This is by no means ugly, but (resolution aside) it still looks like a late-gen PS3 game. Red Dead Redemption looked at least this good for example. The trailers and stuff actually looked next-gen.

This is starting to get rather ridiculous. There is no way TW3 looks like a lategen ps3 game. Everything about it is better.

Yes it was downgraded on PC, but saying it was a ps3 game? wtf

Its getting sad to see comments like these...

RDR still looks stunning but no. It was sub-720p on PS3 with lots of aliasing and very few foliage or wind-rain effects. It's wasn't big and the lighting was great but not near as good as what TW3 can achieve.

I posted a link to an article earlier in this thread. The article has a source that's apparently someone who works at CD Projekt and they said the same thing. They didn't know the hardware of the consoles and when they did, they eventually had to make changes.

I wish I'd played that Red Dead Redemption, seems to be quite different from the one I played.

Personally I don't think I can get over how horrendous the vegetation look.
Especially when there is so much of it and the wind blowing it serves as a constant reminder.

You don't mean Red Dead Redemption on PS3, do you? Because that game looked like shit.

The fact that people actually think the game looked better (and not just in the sense that they preferred that look) in 2013 than the 35 minute gameplay and SOD trailers are a good sign I can't take any of them seriously.

...are you suggesting that PS3 Skyrim looks better than Witcher 3?

Nope. I implied that Skyrim isn't the best looking game but it still doesn't make the graphical "leap" of the next-gen Witcher look that impressive.

What I should have said was the Witcher 3 (to me) looks like a decent PC port of a PS3/360 game. Hell, even the first post shows a screenshot that makes the Witcher 2 look comparable to Witcher 3.

Even Hitler is pissed off about the downgrade

Bahaha I can't believe I get to say that I agree with hitler for once! The defeated look in his eyes after he realizes what splatoon represents... Perfect. I even saw a master race joke in there, but the author didn't quite take it all the way and make a joke about invading cdpr (or Poland if you want to be totally politically incorrect lol)
