Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

Got a couple matches in before going to bed. It's really fun. Going to work tomorrow is gonna be hard, but I gotta pay for those amiibo somehow.

Gonna go grab a bite and then jump into my second session. Got up to rank 10 yesterday.

Hoping my WiiU friends will be playing, defo feel free to add me - NNID: windjamming

Just had a match where the random teams consisted of their entire team being around level 20, and my team being around level 6.

We got absolutely dominated, right from the start.

Seems there really isn't any protection against spawn camping in this game if everyone gets taken down at once. Had a round earlier where we ended up with 3 rollers on our team, so some guy with a Splattershot painted the immediate area around our spawn so we couldn't use squid form and then stood himself in such a position that he could shoot at us the second we leave the protective zone, but far enough away that we couldn't reach him before we got gunned down. And this was just one guy handling 3 people, had the others joined in we wouldn't have stood a chance.

You are already dead. Well it means you already lost the game at this point.

NNID PreyingShark

I'll try to remember to add you later.

Won't have the game until tomorrow though and likely won't be able to play much during the weekend because I'll be at a Dr. Who convention.

5 long hours left until NA can join in. Too much hype!

wait, so it unlocks tonight?

why do I even bother buying retail copies of this shit is gonna be out sooner. is there a timer anywhere that says what time for PST? seriously considering cancelling my amazon even though its supposed to be here tomorrow. not sure. argh.

Right, well. I've only managed to do this once in my team and it was in one of the bigger maps. It took some effort to push back the team all the way back to their base so my stance on it is basically that it's deserved at that point.

The irony being they actually didn't do that in this instance. We were all in the middle of the map, roughly 50/50 coverage - that one guy just made a dash for the base and then waited there until we died to the rest of the team so he could then lock us down. Poor judgement that we didn't immediately jump to the last guy alive on the field upon respawn, but in that 10 second or so window it seemed a fair call to secure the base as a first priority.

To be honest the only point I'm sore about is that the game matched together all of the rollers in a room on one team, that's just a really crappy oversight that shouldn't happen.

Ah, well that's unfortunate, then. Your point about match-ups is definitely a fair one, they should address that.

Let's go!

Hmm, my Power Armour amiibo gear got some lucky rolls as far as abilities go.

extra damage, extra defense, extra speed, fast super jumps, special charge up, quick respawn, Ink saver (main) and bomb range up.

9pm for you I believe

I have no doubt it's entirely due to our team being all rollers, but it seems a bit unfair that the game doesn't appear to balance teams by weapon types or give any chance to get out of a lockdown situation if you do end up with a team that has no ranged combat potential.

I've seen it happen with less rollers too. Only on certain maps though. Certain maps seem worse for it due to design. It wasn't just one person where I've seen it too. The entire team pushed up and just shot people as soon as they came out of the spawn protection.

I remember playing Walleye Warehouse and spawn camping being a concern in the back of my mind during the test fires. Saltspray Rig doesn't have this problem because the spawn points are on raised platforms that can't be reached once you fall off of them, so enemies can't get up there. Coincidentally the raised platform is basically guaranteed territory for your team and enemies can only nick bits of it with Chargers.

That sounds like pretty much every match I'd ever played in Titanfall! I don't get what's so difficult about writing logic to just balance the teams; once the logic has selected eight players, it's like five lines of code to shuffle them so it's not lopsided.

That's me done for the night, up to Level 9. Will wade in properly after work tomorrow, but need to actually get some sleep tonight.

(Where sleep might equal "finish a trial in Danganronpa", admittedly)

The mall's grown on me a lot. I only had one go on it yesterday before it rotated away and at the time I thought it was too corridor-ey, but there's some really good use of elevation too.

Defense stacks, so the others should as well.

Nice, thanks, hopefully the grinding is not too crazy if you have to work with some cool-looking piece of gear with bad skills.

Also, I assume you never get to set your own loadout? I guess roller and shield would be kind of brutal, haha.

Yup. Easier to balance strengths and weaknesses. I thought the same thing, roller/shield would be nuts in a few situations.

This may end up being my favourite WiiU game.

Loving the few hours I've spent so far. Got some nice gear, tried the surprisingly fun single player mode, slaughtered people in matches, definitely decided I prefer Splatterguns, and all in all had a whale of a time!

I'm tempted to pull a sicky tomorrow quite frankly.

I hope I'm not stepping on any tentacles by making the drawing to the left my new avatar (wasn't sure if it is GAF made or not), I just can't handle the hype and the platoon reference is too good! But if the artist is present and has a problem with it, please let me know and I will change it.

T-Minus 3 hours and 55 minutes for NA E-Shop release!

I want to buy, but I got Witcher, Puzzle and Dragons already, then Batman in 3 weeks.

I'll try to wait until August...so see you guys this weekend after I cave in to temptation as always. :D

I have a feeling this game will receive lots of patches and updates, and fast. Partly why I'm not too concerned about some of the lacking or overlooked features.

Damn, it's 2am here. I'm planning on grabbing the game in a store tomorrow, so basically the sooner I fall to sleep, the sooner I can play this game. This all would be fine if I could get to sleep, but I can't, at all. Zero sleep in me. :[
