[RUMOR] Dark Souls 3 to be announced at E3 ( with Miyazaki directing )

I don't really have any interest in these games, but isn't there a worry of burnout if they're really cranking these things out so quickly? They're essentially annualizing them at this point. Isn't that troublesome to fans?
Souls has no competition what so ever, so one game a year is a blessing

I'll be on board with Dark Souls 3 if Miyazaki is directing. But I'd still be a bit hesitant since Dark Souls 2 pretty strongly convinced me that the Dark Souls world had been tapped out.

I don't believe this unless Dark Souls 3 is 2-3 years off. I don't even think Sony will let him leave before the DLC is out. I'm sure they would've put that in his contract. Anyway, I'm glad he's back on the Dark Souls train as that series was in real trouble of being a disaster after Dark Souls 2. Hopefully he can put it back on track and I'd assume this is the final game in the series.

I dont know man....After Bloodborne I cant touch Dark Souls anymore :(

This is kind of where I'm at. I've played and enjoyed all 4 games so far but I shrugged when I saw the thread title. I don't know if I care enough to go back to clunky old Souls after Bloodborne. Quickly dodging around with your jacket flowing in the wind just feels cooler than running around naked to avoid equip burdens or dopily falling over to roll.

I wonder if there's some sort of miscommunication here. Like, I'm 100% certain that Dark Souls 3 is happening, and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see it at E3. I wouldn't be surprised if Miyazaki wants to lend his name to the project either, given that he's the president of From Software now, and his big project has already shipped. Maybe he's producing Dark Souls3 and not directing it?

Now that sounds way more likely.

Maybe Microsoft put some money to rush the release and have some Soul game asap on XBone too.

Bloodborne is a great success on PS4.

Dark Souls Universe takes place in the Music Box

This post isn't getting enough credit

If it's announced it will only be the title screen on a powerpoint.
A CGI could work. Like Bloodborne at Sony's E3.

He's a big name now so it's easy to assume he'll want to attach his name for more profit on his games. I guess we'll have to find out soon enough.

The new Gargoyle fight: now with 18 of them at once!

That's one more reason for me to call them b-team.

This is so true, I hate how people enjoyed the remaster because they thought it was refreshing having to run through gauntlet after gauntlet. Horrid game design choice, I still enjoy DS2 though, it just never should have been remastered.

If true, it means -> No Bloodborne 2

For the record: A Bloodborne 2 without Miyazaki (or with the Dark Souls 2 team) = Flush it straight down the toilet, please.

There's no logic here. If the rumor is true it means Miyazaki is capable of directing two games at once. How exactly does that mean no BB2? He could use a staggered approach to stave off burnout.

I just hope they make an epic char like Burnt Ivory King again, not one single char could measure up to him in BB.

Fro Software reaching those Ubisoft level of release frequency.

It's nothing compared to the heyday of Armored Core on PS2. The Souls series have been releasing every 2-2.5 years since Demon's, with Bloodborne being the only real exception to that.

I'd be ok with yearly intervals between Bloodborne and Dark Souls tbh. They are similar but different enough to not burn me out on the series. This is no CoD after all where except the story and a few tweaks here and there everything is the same every year.

A bit early, isn't it? I still haven't finished Bloodborne! (granted, I'm holding out until after my exams).

Glad to hear Miyazaki is directing if this rumour turns out to be true. Dark Souls II felt like it was missing something that made Demon's and Dark Souls special.

I would much rather Demon's Souls with the sixth stone available

Gah, after Bloodborne, I don't think my hype muscles are ready to be flexed yet. it has only been a year since Dark Souks 2

Also I don't understand why people saying the DLC for bloodborne rules out Miyazaki working on DS3, or because Bloodborne shipped in march that rules him out.

First off, there's nothing that's been stated as saying he's actually working on the dlc. Secondly, Bloodborne shipped in march, meaning preproduction could have started on this as early as Jan-Feb 2015, and been in the planning stages looong before that. What, do you guys think devs and pubs just wait until the last game ships, take a vacation, then a few months later decide what to work on? In reality, they likely already had a rollover plan just like with Bloodborne, which started development at the tail end of development on the Prepare to Die edition content. This isn't even getting into all they have to show at E3 this year is a titlecard with a logo and a paragraph of flavor text to "announce it".

March 2017 is more than easily met, imo.

So this would be a positive right if it were true?

Why are there so many double standards, people go nuts at annual franchises, but it's ok when it's a game they like yeah?

Just because they've got different names, it's blatantly fundamentally the same game (despite the titles), and if it's true then they're just as bad as Ubisoft, EA etc

Dark Souls is now annualized when Dark Souls 2 released march 2014 and the earliest anyone can speculate this as releasing is in early 2017.

whatever you say dude...

So he literally directed two different games at once with completely different art direction/lore/story/combat and enemies?

Miyazaki's a genius but I'm not buying that at all.
? What's so surprising/amazing about this? Other people do this.

Maybe Microsoft put some money to rush the release and have some Soul game asap on XBone too.

Bloodborne is a great success on PS4.

That definitely didn't happen. Microsoft will not pay out of their own pocket to help develop a multiplatform game unless they have exclusivity on it for a certain period. If that's the case, From risk alienating the core fans massively as the Souls games originally started on the Sony platform.

Even if Microsoft do help push out the multiplatform release just to have another Souls game on the Xbox, it will no doubt sell far better on the PS4 considering that's where most Souls fans are.

i will say one thing. i'd much rather return to the bloodborne universe and world faster than i want to return to dark souls. but that could be dark souls 2's fault.

Yes, Dark Souls 2 gameplay please.
I also think its too early and the game might be years away but I sure want DS3 to be a Miyazaki game including all the DS2 improvements, also I'm ok with adding stun firearms ala bloodborne but with lenghtier reload times.
I know they just released SotFS but a remaster doesn't need the full team, maybe artists and other teams were doing preproduction.

May I ask why I'm seeing people blaming Namco? From memory the Souls games are published directly by FromSoft in Japan and Namco-Bandai only publish the in NA/PAL.

Also, it's cute that some of you assume that everything good in DS, DkS or BB is ONLY coming from Miyazaki and completly ignore the rest of the core team...

Time to ask Yoshida what's the deal with the expansion!

Someone should get on it.

Maybe he's "supervising" it, like Dark Souls 2?

Well, personally, I'd like to see more Bloodborne DLC or even yet another new IP from Miyazaki. Something about Bloodborne's setting really gels with me. Loved it.

As much as I love Dark Souls, I hope at least one of the teams at From is working on a new IP with a similar tone as Dark Souls. Maybe with a scifi theme?

How would that work, team-wise? I guess the DS2 team must've started working on DS3 after they finished the DLC and while Miyazaki was still working on Bloodborne. And now Bloodborne DLC is probably going to be made by the Bloodborne team while Miyazaki has now been moved to direct DS3?

In any case, I'm ok with this. Even though I'm a little bit weirded out how From Software seemingly is trying to churn these games out now on a yearly basis, at the end of the day, they're just really good games.

Not sure if I could handle yearly Souls releases. The heart needs time to heal.

While many people think DS2 is inferior to the original game, I think it took a lot of great steps forward. The series definitely has a lot of room to improve.

Sounds much more plausible than him directing after just finishing BB and starting on DLC. There's no way he could be the director to DaS3 if it's ready to be announced at this point.

I'd rather Miyazaki works on a new universe because from interviews that's what he likes to do.

Also this, every 'Souls' game he's directed has been in a new universe and IP so far.

From the guide, Miyazaki said that he designed all the levels of Bloodborne by himself, & he wrote all the item descriptions, seems to me that what made those three games great (tight level design & consistent lore) is due to Miyazaki.

EDIT: Not to take anything away from the rest of the team, they're very talented, but it's very clear that Miyazaki is a great leader, in one interview he said he tells his team to design an enemy or a boss without telling them their gender in order to avoid design-bias, & he then assigns the gender later, Miyazaki is a true genius.

I don't like the thought of how frequently they are doing these releases and based on the Souls series to boot. It feels like a recipe for burning out the allure, and i dont want that

Maybe Miyazaki isn't directing Bloodborne DLC after all?

Dragon's Dogma expansion was by a different director than the vanilla game, and it was awesome.

That was the choice of the Dark Souls 2 directors. Dark Souls 3 doesn't need to be.

It would make the new ending that they patched in very irrelevant if the next Dark Souls isn't a sequel to it that finally finishes the series properly.

Do you not see all the people claiming this is too soon?

And if this does keep up with 1 souls game per year and development starts to feel rushed, you will see a lot more people complaining.

But personally, I'm not even close to franchise fatigue... Bring it!
