Fallout 4 Officially Revealed for PC, Xbox One, PS4 [Reddit Rumor = Ban]

Ehhh, I dunno. I think the VATS system gives the skills you pour your points into more weight, which translates better in a turn-based system, imo.

In one of the other FO4 threads, GreateastHits explained it better:

So I think VATS, for Fallout, is the better system. As for tightening up the gunplay, I don't know how you create a better VATS-free shooting experience in Fallout without making skills seem pointless though.
Always went for the legs. Railway riffle was a beast. I do agree that it could have an effect on vats, but they could improve it a bit. Missing shots when the enemy is right in front of you is kind of silly. Though like you said, it's not simple as they have to maintain a balance.

I agree with you, but the impression I got from the trailer is that it seems to be at a slightly more advanced date than previous Fallout games. "Advanced" technology seems to be more common and the visual effects of the destruction aren't as visible, though there is part of the trailer in which the wasteland seems more similar to Fallout 3's and is yellow-tinted... I like the contrast and I hope the advancements translate to a more interesting plot.

Yeah i had the same impression, but i thought that fo4 is probably many years before fo3 because everything seems to be in a slightly better state.

Y'all need to calm the fuck down. It's the first trailer, and it's a huge game. Props to them for showing actual gameplay and not some pie in the sky CG bullshit.

It looks great. Not amazing, not bad, but great. There's a lot of environmental detail and other impressive things going on that everyone seems to be glossing over for the sake of the bloody dog not having 3D fur.

More interested in how it plays.

It's funny how you always see in threads people saying graphics don't matter and devs shouldn't focus on them to keep the costs down, they just want a good game. blah blah blah etc.

Then read you a thread like this and it's no wonder these companies engage in money draining graphics arms races to please you jerks.

You're a jerk for expecting improvement? Back on your NES then, fuck that smart phone and go buy a horse.

What a ridiculous statement

My greatest hope for the game is that they can get it playing like at least a competent first-person shooter. That might be asking too much.

Okay, I fully admit that as a proud resident of the state of NY this will sound salty as hell, but is it just me who has noticed that Boston has seemingly become the center of the United States over the last ten years?

Yes, I'm aware that there are a lot of reasons for Boston to be so popular, all of which are from the sports world. It was started in 2004, when the Red Sox, down 3-0 in the ALCS against their archrival Yankees, came back, won all four games, and went on to sweep the World Series and become the most popular team in baseball, winning two more titles since. The Patriots have been the measuring stick in the NFL as Tom Brady has become the game's most popular player by a country mile, and even controversies like spying on other teams and deflating footballs have seemingly INCREASED their popularity. The Celtics and Bruins have consistently been among the most popular franchises in their respective sports, and the horrible tragedy at the Boston Marathon two years ago just increased the love and admiration for the city. One of the biggest stars in the WWE, John Cena, is a native of West Newbury, just outside Boston. One of the most acclaimed and popular movies of the last ten years, The Departed, was set in Boston. Oh yeah, and the frigging Olympics are most likely going to be held there in 10 years.

And now, Fallout 4 will be set in Boston. While the series isn't as high-profile as, say, Grand Theft Auto it's still a a huge show of respect for a city. And considering that residents of the city aren't exactly...ahem...humble, I think it's just going to increase the ego of Mass-GAF.

And I'll just say it now. Translation: BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
As a member of CTGAF I am forever caught between the war of your states. That being said, despite being a fan of NY Sports teams, I'm glad games are shifting away from being set in NYC. Don't get me wrong, I love the city but it's just so overdone in entertainment. There are more places to set your games/movies/TV Shows. Boston isn't exactly the most exotic location for a Fallout game but it has a huge cultural history and isn't really used much in games.

Yep.

For movies and media, Boston sort of became the new "New York," but not really. There's still 10x more TV shows, films, books, videogames, and anything else, set in New York over Boston each year... and rightfully so, New York is much bigger and has a bigger impact on the American pop culture psyche.

But Boston has more or less become the go-to "So we want a big East Coast city that isn't New York..." for media people.

I wonder how much of it has to do with the big tax subsidies that Massachusetts started handing out to Hollywood in the early 2000s... Made a lot of movies filmed in and around Boston (even many movies not set in Boston were filmed in massachusetts), and now that's filtering down to videogames and other media. Coincidentally, the New England sports teams stopped being perpetual loser at the same time.

You step off GAF for the morning and suddenly there is a 37 page thread on Fallout 4.

37 pages of people who haven't taken the time to process what they've saw. Gonna step off till it's a little less ridiculous in here.

Seemed like a super safe teaser sure, but I still enjoyed what I saw this morning. If the game map ends up being bigger (Saw a bit of liftoff in there somewhere) than the graphics should get a pass from all the animals in here who were clearly expecting something crazy.

It's Fallout 4. Some of you seem to forget why you bet your money on this title in the first place. Certainly never played this series for the looks. I'll wait till E3 for the juicy stuff.

It looked okay. Don't see the reason for hype. It'll be good. I remember people fawning over Skyrim and now it's known as that completely average game.

This is hilarious.

My girlfriend looked over my shoulder at this trailer and her first response was "Why does this game look so bad? This looks like a game from 2005. And what's up with his hand?"

She's not that much of a gamer, either. I was quite surprised by her response. Damn, maybe it does look pretty bad, haha.

The people here who are bitching about the graphics need to get over themselves.

When have visuals and pretty lighting been important in an RPG? What matters are the story, characters, and player choices.
So if it actually looked like a PS2 game you'd be ok?
Also, the lighting was the best thing about that trailer.

Fixed that for you, mate.

Please sir, with your thinking cap on give me a critical analysis of the literary, artistic and direction/design merits of that trailer.

What did you find that it did successfully? How did it illuminate for you a cohesive picture of the goals, intentions, and characterizations within the game?

There is objective analysis in life. Games are not immune to it just by virtue of mostly being uncultured dopamine fixation power fantasies. They can be evaluated on their merits in a vacuum using existant structures and considerations.

I can objectively state Don Quixote is superior to Twilight: New Moon. Near cases are obviously more difficult to evaluate but as we say: a spade is a spade. And that trailer had spades of shit with nary a coherent thought to show.

Can't wait to see him backpedal when it launches in 2016

Computer simulations claim that a nuclear winter would last for 20 years, which is still quite devastating, but probably wouldn't lead to a global ice age as not every part of the earth would be equally affected. Plant life would grow back, it certainly did after one ice age.

The character models do look pretty last gen though. I'm not seeing anything that couldn't be done on those consoles. But the environments are a generally large improvement but at the same time they don't wow me either. Definitely par for the course for a Fallout game.

One thing I am disappointed in are the lack of vehicles. I was hoping they would sneak in a few drivable vehicles for Fallout 4 to make it a little more like Fallout 1 and 2.

I'm still hoping we get something like that. In Fallout 3 they kept showing that damn robot horse in posters all over the game and I expected to get it at some point. I was pretty disappointed.

My greatest hope for the game is that they can get it playing like at least a competent first-person shooter. That might be asking too much.

Same here. Just not sure how they'd be able to tie that in to the skills system though. If your character has low gun skills, what is the combat supposed to be like for the player?

Still, it's a problem I really hope they try and tackle.

Obviously this video was entirely made with majority in-game assets, but unlike other games, to me it seems like the game is actually going to look like that. Anyone else get a good feeling that we just say a trailer for once, where the game is going to be looking like the trailer when we get it in our hands?

I also firmly believe that was all PC footage, just to put that out there.

Some people are babies and expect the game to look like the order, Fallout 4 looks pretty good to me now hopefully it runs at 30FPS locked.

I really don't understand people expectation Bethesda was never about graphics, but rather the dynamic world they create.

If by sex you mean that it looks very dated, then yes, it is sex.
I really wouldn't expect such a post from a graphics afficionado like you :)

What bugs me more than the graphics is that scene could be from any Fallout game; if someone told me that trailer was for a Fallout 3 remaster I'd believe it.

Really wish they went to the Pacific Northwest and had huge forested areas instead of the same brown burned-out lumpy landscape.

They've got 23% off a pre-order at greenmangaming for 48 hours. Wouldn't recommend anyone orders it just yet though!

My apologies. My problem, amongst other things, is that you said this looks indicative of a 360/PS3 game. Which is a blatant falsehood. It just plain doesn't. I mean, it doesn't look like ground breaking, but why should every new game set new standards in graphical fidelity. As long as the aesthetics/art style and gameplay are done correctly "technically" poor graphics can be overlooked.

It absolutely does though. Have you ever played a game ported from 360/ps3 to PC where the only thing they did in regards to PC options is an increase in resolution?

If you have then you'll understand what I mean when I say it looks like a 360/ps3 game in regards to graphical fidelity/quality of the assets.

Of course there's still plenty "under the hood" so to speak that probably can't be done in last Gen in regards to gameplay, bit since we have no reference of gameplay yet I decided to analyze what I can, which is the trailer they hand picked to show off the game so criticisms of the visuals are valid.

Are you trying to make me feel like an inferior human because I am willing to have strong, well stated contrary opinions and that therefore makes me less accepted by others because of my unwillingness to concede to the group think?

You must be judgemental of others way of life.

Saying something is "factual" and then proceeding to provide an opinion doesn't really give your arguments the credibility you seem to think they possess.

This thread is why we get deceptive first-look trailers followed by two years of declining pre-release visuals and then "shockingly bad" graphics on release. If you'd like to continue that trend, just keep freaking out.

At the very least we won't hear people complain about a graphical downgrade.

The sense of atmosphere and the fact that the sky is now blue and we got rid of the ugly piss filter from Fallout 3.

Ok I agree with those. The atmosphere and exploration are the only reasons why I am still interested, since I doubt Beth will manage to write good story and characters. Lack of piss filter is nice too.

Still looks dated tho'

I don't care much for graphics as long as Bestheda doesn't use that horrible character face models that plague Oblivion,FO3 and Skyrim.

My greatest hope for the game is that they can get it playing like at least a competent first-person shooter. That might be asking too much.

1. Competent FPS shooting.
2. Good animations.
3. Good character models.

It's what I want the most from a Bethesda game but I know it's asking too much.

my god.... GAF is more disappointed than excited for this game huh.

I am #teamDayOne

People like you are the reason publishers keep tossing out broken-ass games and tearing out more content to shove into pre-order promos. Stop throwing money at a completely unknown, unfinished product. Team day one on a Bethesda game? Ugh, just ugh.

I appreciate the addition of colors into the art direction a whole lot.

I get the discussion of last gen graphics, but if the view distance is so far and there is a lot of clean action without framerate dropping, I'll be absolutely fine with them. Art direction is so clean.

As far as I can tell this is BY FAR the most visually accomplished game in the history of Bethesda.

People comparing it to the Witcher 3 are missing the point. The fact that a company with such a mediocre pedigree when it comes to graphics managed to finally put out a good looking game AT LAST should be celebrated.

The Witcher is one of the best looking RPGs ever, and while it would be be desirable that Bethesda managed to one up it in terms of visuals, that would be without precedent.

Now if this were about game breaking bugs, you'd have a better point. Because goddamn, Bethesda's QA sure is run by monkeys.
