Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Why do I keep getting matched up with Japanese people when I'm from Europe? Almost every ranked game I play is in a room with at least 6 Japanese players. Sometimes there's no issue but too often I run into lagrollers or chargers that shoot me through walls, it's getting annoying. I also hate I can't read their names lol, hard to make out who is who.

I bow to you inkbrush players who are able to play well with it. I played against some INSANELY good inkbrush guys and it was pretty awesome to see them in action, even if I got slaughtered lol

A new day. Good morning everyone. :)

So to those that stuck to the paint brush, are you guys getting better with them in combat? Are you getting a lot of kills?

After looking at UncleSporky's Excel Document where he cataloged all of his clothes and weapons, I decided to expand it with a front page in my document:

11289167_10203465888722027_5186851034748176950_o.jpg

So now I can:

- See how many Clothes I have VS what i've seen.
- See how many Ability Slots I have filled VS the max (so 3 each item).
- See what Extra Abilities show up a lot for me.
- Make sets in case I am bored.

I like how some abilities I have 10 times while others I have 21. Unfair!

Also, the main reason I made it was so I could see how many Special Savers I have on Clothes as I get it WAY TOO OFTEN as you can see.

This time of day is generally peak hours for Japan and since the game is really popular down there it doesn't surprise me that it matches people up with Japanese players more.

That said.. it could prioritize regions better.

time doesn't matter like at all, if you're higher than B+/A- you're lucky when you see a single western name that isn't your own

6 maps and 2 modes with post launch updates. That's still very lacking. I don't like the idea that they're patching the rest of the game in post-launch. I know, business decisions and what have you, but I'd have preferred they delay the game and have everything in at once.

The content isn't patched in. It's on disk and unlocks.

'The Ink brush covers less ground than the roller, but on the flipside it also does a lot less damage than the roller!"

Yeah, eat a dick.

It's a cool weapon and feels really great, but it needs to be looked at.

Going back to .52 Gal

On the other hand you're going at the speed of light with it. It's great. Love it.

I just got this yesterday and I keep getting consistent errors and time outs when I'm playing online. It's really really really annoying.

I ordered a USB ethernet adapter, but I have no idea if that will do anything.

it didn't help me at all with my connection issues. I need to change my provider
until then, I get Smash or something, this isn't fun

Ugh, dammit.

The playtest worked perfectly for me every time I tried it, played for an hour without any connection issues. Why now?

Eh, in my opinion if you are using the Inkbrush like a roller you are doing it wrong. The melee attack is far better for both inking and for fighting. It can cover ground really quickly from a surprisingly good range.

Though I guess that's pretty obvious.

Yeah the Inkbrush is better for speeding through enemy ink so you can start using the melee attack to spray large areas.

I feel like if I'm going to use the Inkbrush offensively I need some Damage Up Buffs. It's not a common occurrence that I'm way over my league against many opponents unless I'm crafty.

I'm gonna start this up today. I hope it can cheer me up after recent events.

Is there a list with people's Wii U id, so I can add you to my friend list?

Yeah it's in the 2nd post of the OP I think, you need to quote it to reveal the link to the Google Doc.

Feel free to add me, my NNID is Smashballtaz.

it always needs 4 hits, all you'd ever need damage for is countering extremely rare enemies with full defense gear

if anything you'd want defense for yourself against rapid fire kids

The controls are killing me. Please tell me they get easier...

Yeah they do. Remember pressing Y centres the camera behind you. That should solve most of your problems. Or if you just really can't stand the gyro aiming, you can disable it in the game options and just aim with the sticks.

I'm really struggling with the gyro, I had no idea I could disable it though. I swear I didn't see that option when I looked last night (I was inebriated though).

the brush splash attack also deals less damage and has less range than the roller, and you don't benefit from the instant-ko. It doesn't feel very useful at the moment

It would help if they give the option for regional matchmaking, instead off putting everyone against each other.
I'm rather satisfied with the global matchmaking. I doubt the Wii U could support any online game that isn't Mario Kart or Smash Bros if they fragmented the player base. This game does appear to be popular enough (for now) that regional matchmaking might work, but I'd rather have a game filled with Japanese than sit around waiting for Americans.

I still have yet to notice a single lag issue with anyone in particular. I've had 2-3 times where my own paint doesn't show for a bit, and one of those times I got the boot, but otherwise the connection for me and anyone I run into seems fine. Yes, I have played this game for probably 40 hours and I've only had one mid-game disconnect (although, I've had a few "can't find parter's device when going into the lobby").

I refuse to believe that Canadian monopolistic telcos are somehow providing better internet than Europe or the USA. :D

Oh, so kills don't earn you any points whatsoever? I figured they'd just not give you as much. Bleh, I started aiming for people because I got bored of aiming at the floor trying to cover everything but I guess that's not an option.

I've been using the default weapon, the AR type gun and have had a go with the roller, since I tend to be covering everything possible. They're all fun to use, but I can only slather the same 2 maps in ink for so long before fatigue sets in. I'm not sure switching up my weapons would do much for me. Also, I'm not all that bothered by my position on the board per se, but placing low and losing feels crappy and placing low and winning makes me feel like I didn't contribute anything. It feels like I'm not doing much.

I know that feeling, I recommend taking a break when it kicks in. I have noticed I perform considerably worse when I'm sick of a certain map, and I too feel bad when I think I have dragged my team down.

Do not worry, though, going berserk inking whatever you see in the last few seconds will win your team the match on most cases, but 30 seconds won't net you that many points. There are many actions that can win you a match yet they barely affect the ranking.

Also, while the Splattershot Jr. and the likes are the go to weapons for most, every wepon has a niche to fill, so try another one if you feel you keep underperforming for some reason.

That said, have fun!

I'd recommend singleplayer to get used to it. Takes a few hours but when it clicks it's superior to regular dual analog.

DON'T AIM AT THE FLOOR!

the ink falls down in front of you.
