Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

YES I reached A+

Been playing practically every day for several hours since launch to achieve it. Now I'm going to relax abit.

You all are going to laugh so goddamned hard when you find out what I did to fix myself from getting 600-700 point scores (before bonus) to a consistent 800-1000.

I wasn't aiming up when brushing areas.

I am now a full time B R U S H B O Y.

On another note, I saw something on Miiverse that made me think it's an early contender for OT3's title.

"We're the Squids in America."

I don't think so, it's a very tactical map - the problem is that once you take control come backs are extremely difficult.

It really needs to have the timer shortened to like 50 or something. I've only seen it hit 0 on the map once the way it is now. If they can make some maps have multiple splat zones, they can make some maps have a shorter timer. And while I've seen comebacks from within 50 on that map, I've never seen them from 50+ on it.

So a few questions for Brush-GAF

- What is your primary mode of movement around stages?
Swimming, I only use the rolling as an emergency escape, if I'm behind someone and want to close in for a kill or for crossing unsafe areas.
- How do you keep mobile (i.e. how do you manage to stay in your own ink/not run out of ink in key areas when in gotta go fast mode)? When do you diversify your movement between squid, brush, and super jumps?
Jumping out of the ink for as many swings as I can do before hitting the ground and popping back into the ink again. I have a couple of ink saver main abilities so ink isn't an issue. If I need to break through enemy defence I'll toss a Sprinkler out and then charge them while their attention is focused on it. I never really bother with super jumps, other players are usually in situations that I don't wish to find myself in. And I still can't get any Stealth Jump shoes from the shop.
- Give me a list of all the crazy situations that lead to you having +1000 points consistently in Turf Wars.
None, really. 1000+ is literally every match unless we're being spawn camped. My super high scores all come from dominating the middle of the map for a period of time, through a combination of tossing sprinklers right behind people trying to break out and then jumping in and out of the ink, harassing them with as much ink as I can toss. Walleye Warehouse and Urchin Underpass are the easiest maps for the Inkbrush to work well on.

LOL
Finally got to try out the .52 gal deco a bit ago. I was excited because it had seekers and an inkdrop. Loved the regular .52 gal with its inkwall but the wail had way too harsh a startup on a weapon that can't really force folks out.

Skatepark came up and of course I want to go to my usual guardrail on the left to take out folks on the main tower...except the .52 gal cannot reach it. No problem. Ink up a path along the side of it. The vertical tower is too steep for them to fire directly below it to make me leave. Ink up side of tower in my ninjasquid shoes invisibly...pop up and drop a seeker.

I got 7 kills on one turn that way! Suicide bomber tactics in Splatoon with the seeker work really well. When it switched out to the mall folks got on the far left snipe ports trying to protect the middle. Guy had a sniper rifle and a roller up there to guard the edge. Popped off a few lobbies of ink to chase them from the edge, surfed up and point blank seekered them. 2 for 1! First I've ever multikilled with a bomb of any kind :)

So much fun. I can see the .52 gal deco as a favorite. I'll still swap in the OG .52 gal for its ability to blockade with the inkwall but that seeker is a fun thing to abuse. Plus inkdrop is king for disrupting skirmish points so we can push.

The .52 gal Deco is my secondary and as much as it gets me salty getting hit by it when I'm not using it, when I am using it, it's like I have the power of an angry god trapped in every ounce of ink it fires out. :lol

Man, .52 Gal is so last week, guys. It's all about that .96 Gal.

Ok, i hace no idea how yo use the brush

Go fast
Don't stop
Use the swipe
Squid through covered areas
Don't forget the Sprinkler
Try using the Inkstrike as an approach tool
Flank people from the sides and behind

I don't know I personally enjoy the two splat zone maps, but win easier on the one splat map. It requires more teamwork to control two splatzone map, while on the single splatzone it's possible to carry the whole team(which shouldn't happen with similarly ranked players).

Just unlocked the brush, not sure how to play it. I do even worse with it than the Charger and without the decent kills I net with that weapon.

I'll get there one day.

I've gone back and forth between B- and B 3 times now. The second I hit rank B, I apparently become incapable of winning a match.

NotLiquid has been giving advice the last few pages.

Can some describe the overtime thing for me?

Every time I felt kind of robbed of my win: We had the advantage from idk 57 to 54, time was over, it went into overtime, they got 4 points, they win the game after that 4 points.

What?

I don't think Skatepark needs its timer shortened. But Port Mackerel is just too set up for a stalemate to really benefit from having a 100 second timer. Cutting it down to 50 would make it a lot more fun, because comebacks from 50+ are so close to impossible the way its designed. It just feels like you're fighting a battle that's already been decided once that happens.

Inkbrush speeds seems insane, faster than kraken yeah possibly

Hahaha as long as it helps!

Isn't it faster than swim speed? I don't think it's really broken because inkbrush is still hard to use.

You'd probably outrun them, swim speed with ninja squid is enough to keep away.

Nah.

Kraken already has complete invincibility, paints while moving and can kill enemies with a timed attack. It's the equivalent of an invincible roller. You can already outrun the thing while swimming a way. You have to time the transformation right to get the most use of it.

Well, reading all this it seems like it was pretty obvious. Still, I think it is pretty broken, you can't squid through enemy ink, which is what kills me when facing a kraken, but you can paint through it.

Thank you for the replies, it really was obvious haha.

What?

As long as the zone is still capped the timer will still run. It's pretty much like how TF2 does it.

It's all in tactical retreats really. It's always important to manage a good trail you can fall back on. If you can't move backwards, well, they kind of have you backed into a corner.

What?

The game goes into overtime if the losing team has had control most recently. It is over when:
-Your team regains control
-No team has control for 5+ seconds
-They keep control long enough to get in the lead

I beat the final boss a few hours ago and oh my lawd you guys weren't kidding. It was tough, I nearly had to do it over again but I beat it with one life left. Definitely the most unique and creative boss fight in a shooter in... a longgggg time. Thank God I upgraded the rate of fire of my gun or I probably would have had to do it over again.

I just hace trouble effectively cover areas with it. And I guess I'm not ninja enough to get good kills

Its so amazing. My jaw was on the floor for the whole battle.

Does this game keep track of highest ink score per weapon? All I see is total. I scored 1717 BP on turf war. Has anyone hit the 2000 mark?

I wish Ranked would cycle modes, I'd love to work on my rank in the occasional turf war match.

Edit: I still have fun in regular / turf war, but being at 20 it's hard to shake the feeling that I should stick with ranked where I still have progression left.

If you're going to Inkbrush you definitely need to practice on your stealth skills. Ninja Squid is invaluable for it.

The first thing I usually do as soon as a round starts is use the brush's regular rolling to quickly make my way to a pivotal center point where I try to get in as many swipes as possible. From that point it's fairly safe to fall back on territory to recharge, drop a sprinkler and then you should predominantly cover ink by using swipes rather than regular rolls, where you can drop down regularly for quick recharges. The regular rolling is best to make quick movement into covered territory or for retreats when squidding isn't possible (one of the Inkbrush's main advantages is that you're never in a position to have a disadvantage when being chased), but mainly you'll want to move by squidding.

Get ready to work that trigger finger.
