This is not a stealth brag thread. This is more of a problem than a good thing. Almost everything that I do has come extremely easy to me. From when I was a child, to an adult. Football, Basketball, Juggling, Drawing, Music, Video Games, too many to list. But, I think this "gift" has been more of a curse.

I've never worked hard for anything during my adult life. I don't know if I could if I wanted to. Any time there is an obstacle that requires hard work to overcome, I give up. I honestly believe I may have an underlying problem that saps me of all motivation. I can't focus on one thing. I'm always flying back and forth between tasks without even realizing I switched. I'll end up on Gaf, with an hour passed and not even think about it. This is something that I need to change.

This may sound stupid to most, but I can't be alone in this.

I was just about to just say fuck it, and delete this. I really want to hear what yinz have to say about it though.

then you are definitely not too good at things tbh

but i feel you, OP. Really tough shit in my life always seems really insurmountable to me. Encouragement and support from friends/family goes a long way.

Thread backfire in 3,2,1....

...inb4 backfire... OP, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. Your strengths appear to be "football, Basketball, Juggling, Drawing, Music, Video Games, too many to list" and your weakness appears to be a lack of fortitude.

I used to be like this until mid college. I used to not try at anything in elementary school to highschool; I did minimal studying and my grades were amazing.

I guess the realities of college hit me in the face once I realized that I was doing terribly without trying. You learn it's okay to challenge yourself and step out of your comfort zone.

I feel ya OP and deal with similar shit.

I'm sure someone will come in and tell you you're just lazy or something though.

Why didn't you end up in NFL if football came so easy to you? Seems like a good way to become rich. Or a famous musician or whatever you mention.

This sounds like high-functioning ADHD. A hallmark of it for many people (I know it is/was for me) is low dopamine, which is a huge part of regulating motivation/desire/drive.

Yes. I'd say being good at juggling and videogames will get you far in life. Congratulations.

It's sound like you are highly dexterous, but when something asks to exert yourself besides physical competency you bail out.

I'm very careful of this now that I have kids. They're still very young, but I make sure to compliment effort ("wow, you worked so hard at this!") rather than accomplishment ("you did it!"). Effort scales better with increased difficulty, where pride in achievement does not. In the same vein, I don't call them "so good," or "very smart," but try to find other descriptors, like "determined," "focused," "resourceful," etc.

Am so good at everything, I've decided to spend my life in my mom's basement because I don't want to embarrass anyone with my amazing skills.

Did you play competitive basketball? Any good at it? Name some accomplishments?

Did you ever go and play at competitive e-sports tournaments? How did they go?

How many views/downloads has your music on soundcloud/youtube etc.?

If you are too good at so many things you must have something to show off.

If those are the first things that pop into your head, then congratulations, you're a master at activities that no one gives a shit about. Join the rest of us in the real world.
