Halo splitscreen co-op RIP 2001-2015

Ooo. I guess good news comes with bad. This really bums me out as part of the highs of Halo were going through the campaign when I was visiting a friend or a friend was visiting me.

Sadly I haven't played a split screen co-op Halo game since Halo 2...So this really isn't an issue for me. Sucks for those who play a lot of co-op in the same room though.

What will be an issue for me is if they remove split screen 4 player multiplayer...that would suck.

But regardless, there has to be a reason for this...so I won't hurl childish insults like some of the posters on this thread. Don't forget how much free stuff 343 is giving us for Halo 5. I've never heard of any developer handing out 15 free DLC maps.

Yeah...a lot of titles this gen not including split screen has been super disappointing. Espicially since me and my bro share my PS4, so there are virtually no games we can co-op anymore, and I would have loved to do some raid/strikes/trials co-op with him.
I can understand split screen is harder to do (at least with the same graphical fidelity as solo), but I would take the sacrifices if it meant more splitscreen on games that should do it.

Halo 5 in particular not including it though, damn. If X1 was our primary console this gen, and same for friends too, and Halo 5 didn't have splitscreen, this would be shit news, still is even, just not as much so as I can't see friends getting an X1 for Halo 5. All the fun times we've had on Halo 3 on custom games and splitscreen though... Doesnt instill my confidence Halo 5 will be trying to bring back the fun for forge/custom games again, easily the most fun I've had online.

or children, or siblings, or roommates, or dorm-mates, or break room acquaintances, etc etc

I coop'd through the first two Halos with my dad. It's still one of my fondest gaming memories. :|

Split screen might seem less valuable post-college, but its value returns as you settle down with an S.O. + family.

Nice, good trade-off IMO.

There's no trade-off here. As has been said, they should logically be able to cut it to 30 FPS with lowered effects / post-processing / asset quality.

Nope, it's just a list of legacy features that 343 previously decided the series didn't need anymore ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Aye, hopefully we get some/most of 'em. I know they said Forge will be a lot more robust/bigger.

Hopefully theater is emphasized/supported like it was in 3/Reach, especially considering spectator mode is in (I feel like these are related in some way).

Trust me I get this something that isn't really done anymore but, here I thought Halo would be the one that would be immune to this. I guess I shouldn't make such assumptions.

Well that puts a damper on my hype. Hopefully the maps are solid at least and the campaign is a good enough single player experience. Given the co-op focus you would expect the opposite.

This game keeps fluctuating between Day One Purchase and Wait and See.

"Plenty" I'm willing to bet that the size of that number is why most devs don't bother. Sucks for those that care but don't act like half the fans buy it for splitscreen.

Good grief. So I guess hanging out with friends is an outdated concept.

The best feature of that entire series to me. RIP.

WOOOOOOOA WOW. that's a bummer, Microsoft just saved me a boatload of money. :(

None of my friends have Xbones but I was seriously considering getting one, we were all going to play the campaign together! The game informer article thread just pretty much sold me on the game, too

well guess what? the quality of your memories doesn't matter because it's better to make excuses for companies who in the end make way more money selling you on your own console and your own copy and your own subscription to their online services so that you can play with whoever. they'd better have their own shit too! so what if you live with people you'd like to share playing halo with, as you have with literally every other halo before? clearly you're a unicorn, this series has never ever been notable for its co op or splitscreen lolz so why should it be now

in fact why should it even be in any game? why do console manufacturers even sell extra controllers? haven't they heard nobody uses them? wonder how y'all would feel if next year's sports games didn't let you play locally because besides indies and Nintendo games, they're all that's left that do
Excellent news, never wanted and never needed it.

even if you're not bothered personally by this, seeing it as excellent news is just plain ridiculous

its an irrelevant comparison. destiny was not an established series known for featuring these options.

Other than the 2 being shooters and one was previously made by Bungie, you are comparing 2 different kinds of games.

It's not like Halo 5 and Destiny are competing against each other as well as both are on the XB1 and more than likely, people would own both. I know some of my friends are going to be pissed.

Basically having Destiny as his Online game and Halo 5 as his online/local party type game. That was his plan anyway.

It was never a defining feature of Destiny, like it was Halo.

Can't you still play online via split-screen though in Halo 5 or was that removed, too?

From how I read it, it seems like campaign co-op is not available via split-screen.

you'd think that the more powerful the consoles get, the easier it should be to render multiple views at once. shows how fucked up the industry's priorities are.

Well as the graphical quality increases..along with the thermal envelope being limited.. and trying to now make the $400 sweet spot pricing... and break even/make few $$ of profit off each console sale, its really not that hard to see why it becomes difficult especially when each company has stockholders =/

The time when companies would eat $70-100 off the cost for the consumer does not really exist anymore.

Maybe they could have done it but had to render at 720p with 30fps locked who knows. Not everyone can be pleased.

I don't think anything in games gets me quite as mad as the apathy towards local play. Such a disconnected world we're growing into, only the internet fools us into thinking that just the opposite is happening. Well great. That's great. I'm going to... I'm going to step out now.

There goes my sole reason to want to buy an xbox one (if 5 had good multilayer unlike reach and 4) :( spent countless hours on splitscreen multilayer with halo 3

my friends and I have always played with at least one group using split screen. Definitely not buying this now. One of us would be unable to play

343 and Microsoft just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Halo culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame and especially SPLIT SCREEN COOP are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in other fps games where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Halo, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Halo public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Halo 5 for Xbox One, nor will they purchase any of 343i's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but 343i has alienated an entire market with this move.

343i, publicly apologize and put in SPLIT SCREEN COOP for Halo 5 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

It will be ok after they announce PC cross-play next week.
