Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

OK so today after university I thought to myself: Hey, why not play a bit of Splatoon, especially since there is a new map!

Conclusion: 9 or 10 matches (never left the session), Kelp Dome = 1, Walleye Warehouse = 8-9.

FUCK THIS SHIT. This crap is getting freaking annoying. Are there seriously people defending this? Why don't they add a third map!?

They will soon:

But yeah yesterday when the new map was first unlocked I kept getting urchan underpass over and over

I was half kidding but I do think the kraken's speed needs to be upped just a tad and it should have a slightly tighter turning radius

and I say that as someone who doesn't use the kraken

Don't forget its utility as invincibility as well. It's like a shitty bubble with some other minor effects in its favor, doesn't have to be a badass killer special. It can save your life and be a great retreat if nothing else. Also that brief psychological effect of "oh shit" that lets your pals behind you make some headway.

Edit: Random rant here but I'm about fed up with all you rollers and inkbrushers who fail to ink over the start zone >_< I shouldn't be having to do that with a .52 Deco lol. Of course they can do whatever they want, I just figured it made sense and was an unspoken/unwritten rule that rollers and inkbrushers know their "roll" and at least swab the launch pad area, it helps out and allows the shooters to head out and get things poppin'.

Even though the area near your base may be low hanging fruit for easy painting, if they're really good at surviving and killing the enemy, let them run ahead and do that! It's always better to paint over enemy ink rather than unpainted ground. Maybe your enemies will get into the base or use an inkstrike and force you to cover it up anyway. Let them waste their time inking your un-inked ground!

Kelp Dome Splat Zones...Ink Strike Zone. It takes just one Ink Strike to take the zone lol. I know it is cause it is a square, but still. You have to pray that you have Ink Strikes on your team lol.

Yup it's essential on this map. Take the lead, and then reset the other team's counter with ink strikes until time is up.

I've done kelp dome, just don't like it for a few reasons

- Super Jump is fairly useless because your teammates are probably near the opposing team in an open area, so you're wide open.

- Slow traversal on catwalks. I do like being able to fall through them though, but not enough to resolve my issue here.

- It's just too big. You could probably go a whole match without seeing an opponent and still get a bunch of points. Great for leveling, but not as fun as other stages.

Damn that sucks.

I kinda wish we could vote on maps instead.

I'm only in favor of voting if it's part of a different mode, like regional mode has voting but worldwide is whatever they throw at you, that sort of thing.

Voting means everyone decides certain maps suck and we never see them again. No more mall, even though I love the mall.

I liked the mall back when I was using a weapon with a Seeker because I could just deploy it and follow it up the ramp to the middle area. Now that I'm not I dont like it so much

I use my Kraken mostly defensively when I'm forced to pop to escape, but I also use it to apply pressure on the other team. People can usually outpace the Kraken if you're not right on top of them (although Swim Speed does raise speed), but it forces opponents to retreat for a few seconds and your team can come in. It's not intended to be some sort of ultimate killing, ace in the hole sort of weapon.

I never approach the middle head-on, I don't know why most people do. I always go right of the base into that hallway, it gives you a great entry down into the middle for a quick jump down into enemy territory. Then I bubble and go up the ramp to the left, and walk across the grate to the enemy sniper perch, and hold that location as long as I can. It's awesome. I love being that jump point into enemy territory for the rest of my team, with total control of their area below.

A lot of times they'll try to come after me, but it's so dangerous for them, they have to walk across the grate while I'm tossing bombs down at them, and often I have the bubble ready too.

Seriously I keep getting error code 104-1187. Can't even play splatoon online for the last 24 hrs.
Silly question, but did you try unplugging and replugging your modem/router? My Smash Bros for 3DS copy refused to connect to the server for a few days while everything else (Splatoon, 3DS eShop) worked fine. Restarting our internet connection stopped the error window from popping up, maybe it's a similar situation.

So this game has become nearly unplayable to me due to something happening with my internet connection. It's always been bad, but I drop about 9 games out 10. There's no way I can play ranked like this, sadly which means the game has lost a lot of its luster for me after hitting level 20. I get the 118-0006 error, which I believe means I am completely fucked. Done DMZ and port forwarding stuff, which doesn't help one iota with this. I think my modem and router are just garbage, but who knows. I never trust Comcast, and coincidentally this started after a mass service outage they had about 10 days ago. We're ordering a new modem/router, but I have no confidence that this will fix my issues.

Anyone else had persistent connection problems with this game?

Have you tried the usb ethernet?

Before the outage was it working fine?

So I know that we have troubles with our internet dropping out intermittently even when I am hardwired into the router from my computer. Nevertheless, I have thought about picking up a USB adapter, just not sure where I would find one around here. No one seems to carry that much in the way of Wii U accessories (that aren't amiibo).

Before the outage, it was working about as fine as I could expect. The first night there were a lot of drops, but that first weekend, I played maybe 20 hours with hardly a drop. I am starting to suspect Comcast just hates Splatoon...

My wife has been having a bunch of issues on her end. She got like 4 or 5 drops in a row last night and almost every night. It's pretty annoying for her. Might be a router setting that needs tweaking or something.

I had my highest score ever in a Turf War game last night: 1703. Thank you based Kelp Dome!

The points you gain and lose depends on the average rank of the opposing players. If the average is better than your team's average, then you'll get +12.

I dunno how I lost 1 point during a loss. I think I was fighting a ton of As.
You lose 1 point if you started off with only 3 players on your team.
If there was a handy app (web or phone) you could use to help you with clothing abilities, what would you want it to do?
A calculator or something for stacking would be good. It could show how much you could stack Damage Up depending on the weapon. Also show how much of a percentage increase you will get using a certain amount of abilities. I'm assuming this question is only for abilities and not list all gear or something like that.

I have this one and it works great. Very rarely do I get the disconnects now. Should improve your connection by a fair share.

I love Kelp Dome so much that it made me actually learn how to use the Gold Dynamo Roller

Also, Forge Splattershot Pro is now my favorite weapon. I should use the original since it has an arguably better loadout but this one works wonders for Ranked.

Just got my first violation on miiverse for mentioning white ink. Pic was safe for work even
Huehuehuehue. Should have said to google white ink. There's white ink tattoos , pens, ect

So what's the consensus on the new map, does it stand up to the greatness that is Saltspray Rig?

Edit: Wait when the hell did I become a member? NICE

Splatoon is actually the way to become a member. Before Splatoon I too was a junior kid, but now I'm a full-fledged squid.
heh

Kelp Dome rules, too!

I got a violation my first week for posting 'Get out of here, Carl' to a ZombiU post referencing The Walking Dead. And it stays in notifications forever now. FOREVER.

Absolutely not. I experimented for an entire evening with this and wish I could stream it for you. A Roller running into a head on collision with an Inkbrush spammer loses. Always.

Walk back flail too strong versus most Rollers. The roller only wins if the brush user has to guess where they are since we are not getting the hits out fast enough to end them before they bring down the hammer.

I once got a Miiverse violation for posting a pic from Wii Sports run event with a 8bit Luigi visible without spoiler tags...

I think you can get violations just if anyone at all decides to report you.

I posted a pic of AC4 on Wii U of a cool swamp, and somebody posted "not as swampy as my buttcrack slurp slurp slurp." I reported that and it was gone very quickly. :P

Played a few matches but matchmaking is slow today.

When did bunny hopping Blasters become meta? Hope they patch that so the Blaster players auto jump when firing if they're going to jump with every shot anyway.

Ya I never engage brush users on equal footing when I'm rollin

Since the first weekend. Rollers and Blasters auto jump woh every shot. I am not sure if it actually helps, or if jumpers are just more skilled overall. I notice that rollers who don't jump never kill me, and those that do jump are an actual threat.

The thing with blasters is that a direct hit is too weak. It's always better to blast slightly overhead. The blast is stronger than direct hit, and the ink raining down also helps.

hey guys, I think the Rapid Blaster might be underrated

a direct hit normally does 80 damage, caps at 99.9 damage with Damage Up and it has a higher range and fire rate of a normal blaster. I might have to test this weapon

Oh god, a teleporting blaster. That's the stuff of nightmares.

I was playing around with it yesterday and was thinking the same thing, it's pretty much the same thing as the blaster just slightly weaker, which isn't even much because 2 hits can kill at most 3 indirect hits, but is much better at spreading ink for turf wars

I also realized why it's so hard to run away Blasters because unlike other guns they don't shoot to the ground. If you're running backwards from a blasters, the projectile just chases after you to a certain extent because previously you were causing it to pop. So running diagonally backwards is probably the best... or maybe not because blasters too stronk.

Can defense up even block 30 points of damage? If this is not the case, damage ups are practically useless with it, unless you miss the blast or something.

I definitely want to try the rapid blaster soon, but I can't play enough to keep up with the clothes and buy it, nice to know it's getting some attention.
