May 2015 NPD (U.S. Hardware) Predictions - Closes June 9th

PlayStation 4 outsells Xbox One in May, according to NPD data

The PlayStation 4 was back on top last month.

After the Xbox One surprised everyone by outselling the PS4 in April, Sony has come charging back to own hardware sales in May, according to data from research firm The NPD Group. The company has confirmed to GamesBeat that its PS4 system outsold the competition in the United States, which is where NPD tracks sales.

“As we head into E3, we would like to thank gamers for making PS4 the top-selling console and the leader in software sales in the U.S. in May,” a Sony spokesperson said in a statement provided to GamesBeat. “We are truly humbled by this success and we look forward to sharing what’s next for PS4 at our E3 press conference on June 15.”

Amazing how fast the old gen consoles are leaving the market.
Well both are still extremely expensive considering their age. Kinda weird how neither MS or Sony haven't done any price drops for last gen consoles since launch of this gen. Especially MS as X360 has been cheaper and easier to manufacture since day one.

Time for the squids to celebrate. The top 10 is going to cause a ruckus.

Ah shit!

Not gonna lie, I know you're gonna hate me for this, but I really wanted Splatoon to bomb. I'm in that wall of of shame (people downplaying Splatoon) and I really wanted to have a big laugh when Splatoon bombs in US.

Everyone is expecting it to chart.

I feel a ruckus woukd only be caused if it was like number 1

I'm usually in NPD threads to enjoy others' reactions but I'd lose my shit if it actually reached number 1, with three damn days charting no less.

We're almost two years in on gen 8 after a really long gen 7, if anything it hasn't been fast enough

Did you forget about PS1 and PS2.

Combined they sold almost 19 million units in the USA, AFTER their successors came out.

The PS3 will be lucky to have even sold 2 million (as of today) after the PS4 came out.

So does that mean you'll never doubt Sony and Nintendo's ips now? Or are you just going to eat another hat?

Very possible. After that though. I don't know who sells more this holiday.

Unless Sony pulls a 2013, and at E3 they announced GT7 for PS4 releasing this holiday, I see the Xbox One selling more throughout.due to the stronger exclusive lineup. Though it may be close if Sony does a pricecut.

Edit: nvm, got reminded of Battlefront, and the inevitable ps4 bundle with it. Not as clear cut as I thought it would be.

Do you prepare these fun facts in advance like a sports commentator?
Simply amazing.

Price cut would be huge imo but if they have a solid bundle strategy as well. They could mitigate. I honestly think this holiday will be pretty close.
