What rank are you? I probably have 6 hours logged in ranked alone and can't get better than a C. Even when I'm MVP 50% of the time

EDIT: 50% is a stretch

I almost don't want to play sometimes because I'm happy with my B rank. Avoiding the inevitable huge losing streak dropping me back to C+.

Despite Joeshabadoo's totally unbiased take, I can't help but feel that the game is a little light so I'd been holding off on playing Ranked to kind of stretch out the experience, you know? Goddamn.

I'm sure as you rank up the matches get better, but for a game that seems to be holding our hand as if we're all six years old--how bout a one time tutorial explaining that people need to control the zones? Where's everyone going? What are you doing? WHHHY?

Press X to read the rules in the lobby.

The greatest secret in all of Splatoon.

There is too much handholding.
There isn't enough handholding.

The greatest secret in all of Splatoon.

So when you guys started playing ranked, your teammates had all read the rules, were playing the zones and each match was a wonderland? How nice for you ;)

Just saying that if you're limited to these dinky rotations and have to sit through having them announced to you every time you boot the game, a short message explaining the concept wouldn't be the end of the world and even if only a small percentage of the playerbase saw it, that would be a good thing.

O'clock tomorrow June 13 11 am, new weapon "Sharp marker" is added. It's fast shooter of the bullets of roses with less fire. ATK's low, but quite useful if Aim for tightly basis. Sub "Kyubanbomu", Special's "Bum Rush".

I like how Google Translates it to Bum Rush.

Also, that's the usual 7pm PDT, 3AM GMT and 11AM Japan Time.

Haven't jumped on in about 4 days. Is ranked still filled with Japanese laggers? I got so frustrated that I nearly broke my gamepad and haven't returned.

I am a bit confused about certain things in the game

- What does knockout mean?

I thought it meant you won quickly and other team didnt get a chance to ink map. Yet i played matches with back and forth between the 2 teams and with 10 seconds remaining and whoever won, won via knockout

- how do you reach overtime?

Again i thought it meant when 2 teams are equal after timer runs out. But i have been in ranked matches that one team has less points than the other and still manage to go into overtime.

- how does overtime end?

is there a time limit or something to it?

- in ranked match how do you get the number in black under your score

you know how the marker starts at 100 and when it gets to 0 you win? I noticed if a team reached 70 then the other team starts controlling the area the team with 70 gets a smaller number under the 70 that says 30 (im guessing it was 70 minus 100 to get the 30 number?)

even if you control the map the smaller black number has to countdown before the main number counts down. I have an idea why this happens but if someone can explain it i would appreciate it :D

I hope the above made sense

Knock out means a team reached 0 time left.

Overtime is achieved if the losing team has control once the time runs out.

Overtime ends when the winning team takes control back or if the losing team takes the lead.

The smaller number is penalty for allowing the enemy to take control after you've had it. The more time you take off, the bigger your penalty if they gain control.

Splat Zones plays similarly to the King of the Hill mode from other video games. It revolves around a central "zone," which players must attempt to cover in ink with a five minute game clock. Once a team has covered a majority of the zone in their ink, the zone is "captured" and a countdown begins. The opposing team must try to capture the zone in the same manner. The first team who holds the zone for a total of 100 seconds or has the least amount of time lefton their countdown clock to hold the zone wins the match.
Controling the zone causes your countdown clock to start. Losing control of the zone causes your countdown clock to stop. As soon as the enemy team Takes Control of the Zone, their countdown clock restarts, while yours receives a penalty. Should they Lose Control of the Zone, their countdown clock stops, and once your team Takes Control of the Zone, first your penalty clock ticks, down. Once your penalty clock is clear, your countdown timer resumes.

The penalty depends on how low your countdown timer is. For instance if you only had 13 seconds left to hold the zone, but the other team captured the zone, 60 seconds will be added to your penalty timer meaning you will have to hold it again for 60 seconds to make your countdown timer go down.

If the losing team is in control of the zone as the 5 minute game clock runs out, the game goes into overtime. If the winning team can recapture the zone, they will win; however, if the losing team keeps control of the zone until their countdown timer is less than the winning team's countdown timer, they will win.

And a Knockout occurs when you get your timer down to 0.

Knockout is when you reach 0 on your team before time runs out.

Overtime is reached when your team is not in the lead but is holding the zone when time runs out.

Overtime ending is iffy for me but I believe that its when you are holding the zone and your team gets the lead or you lose the lead and cant hold the zone again in a few seconds.

If you hold the zone and the other team takes away the splat zone and holds the zone then the black number is added to your points depending on how long you held the zone.

The black number is extra points that you need to go through when taking back control of the splat zone.

Almost made it to A today - then I consecutively lost to a Japanese Inkbrush user who annihilated my whole team.

Got my highest scoring game tonight, with 1574 using... The ink brush! I'm starting to get the hang of it :D

I played a several games with someone who was absolutely awesome using it... sadly, I was on the receiving end of that awesomeness but it was a joy to behold all the same.

They were scoring 15-17k most of the time - although I was usually on the losing team, I was quite pleased by coming in second consistently.

I want to try using the brush more but so far I've been awful!

B- with 66 points right now. I didn't play for ages because I got to B- before, lost two games and then a disconnection (while my internet was running at full speed/negligible ping, btw) sent me down to C+ with 70, meaning it docked me something like 38 points. I'd say I'm generally OK with my performance level, I get a good amount of coverage and provide protection for people, but my playstyle doesn't really lend itself to fast-paced killing, so I'm never likely to be a match-winner or able to hold the Zone more or less on my own like top players can. In other words, if my teammates are crap, there's not a whole lot I can do, and I've had some real stinkers getting this far. And was docked ~38 points for a disconnect, which I WILL NEVER GET OVER.

I never realized that the Prima Guide section on the Amiibo states that the Splatoon amiibo will unlock content in Mario Party 10, Hyrule Warriors and Captain Toad. Was this known of or is this something that the games will get an update with later on?

Of course that's assuming that the content isn't just similar to Hyrule Warriors' default "one rupee" you get when you scan any type of Amiibo.

I was looking at this the other day on: www.nintendo.com/amiibo/compatibility

Nothing I got too excited about!
