Ha! It's really, really easy to differentiate between the older and younger posters in this thread.

You don't need to explain Ryu's inclusion to those of us who are older and grew up on the NES, SNES, and Street Fighter II.

It's sad how many people here straight up don't grasp Ryu's significance or icon status, but I suppose that's just different generations for you. Same thing happened with Mega Man, too - older gamers fully understand the fact that he's one of the all-time gaming icons, but kids (understandably) often seem to have no idea who he is or why he's in the game. To a lot of younger folks, he's just that "blue robot from Smash."

I do agree that Ryu is pretty generic and "vanilla" compared to many of Street Fighter's other, more interesting characters (hell, even Ken is more interesting IMO), but it just doesn't matter. He's Mr. Fighting Games. The poster boy of the fighting game franchise that started the entire fucking genre that Smash owes its existence to. Those are inarguable facts that the people who don't "get" Ryu are just going to have to come to terms with (or not, I suppose).

I really can't find it in myself to be hyped for Roy at all, though. I'm happy for the Fire Emblem/Melee fans who really wanted him back, and I generally have no problem with clones being in the roster, but at least back in Melee he was the only Marth clone. In this game, he'll be the second Marth clone. Barf. But hey, like I said -- good for you, Roy fans! This is your day, and many of us have already had our days for our favorite characters!

I'm still hyped for Lucas, though!
I would be cool with the first four paragraphs getting stickied. It would save a lot of arguing. Damn kids!

These arrangements are fuego

Fuck it, I gotta make a mashup with Ryu's remix.
Shit is too hype.

So uh, considering they're suppose to be in the newest patch tomorrow with Lucas, think there's a chance Roy & Ryu could ALSO come out tomorrow? Or at the very least, this month?

Why does there need to be salt at all? Why do people have to make this a competition? We have both Mega Man and Ryu - two of the most iconic video game characters of all time, and definitely Capcom's two biggest icons - together in Smash now. I would argue that Mega Man is the more iconic of the two by a comfortable margin, but whether he is or isn't, why does it matter? Mario, Pac-Man, and arguably Sonic are more iconic than both Mega Man and Ryu, but it doesn't fucking matter because they're all fan-favorite gaming icons and they're all in Smash Bros. together and oh my god this is every childhood gaming dream come true and why/how are people finding ways to be salty about this.

The salt is over his anger. I'd prefer Ryu or Ken, but I still love Mega Man.

This.

Bring on Nintendo vs Capcom!

thats the elephant in the room now, considering they are practically 100% done.

Sakurai specified on twitter that the presentation is about whats coming in the update so I'd say there's a chance that they could come out tomorrow.

Considering how complete all this seems, I bet they were to be available after the Digital Event

The question now is how they're actually going to release all of this.

It's clear that Ryu and Roy are complete characters who are inside the Lucas update. Does this mean that they'll be released alongside Lucas?

If so, it seems likely to me that we might be looking at a form of "Season Fighters" kind of release schedule. It's clear that between Smash's release and the seven months since then, they've worked in four DLC fighters. Mewtwo was a freebie for Club Nintendo, but Lucas makes sense to be made available as a discount bundle together with Roy and Ryu.

So is it possible that near the end of the year we might get another kind of bundle of one veteran and one newcomer?

I just woke up, it's so early where I'm at for a Saturday...

I'm pretty shocked this happened. Still not happy that Roy aka another inevitably jank Marth clone is in but whatever, but Ryu looks interesting.

Why did this have to leak? Even if we knew the data got leaked a while ago this would've been perfect to witness tomorrow.

...Now I'm disappointed. I feel bad for Sakurai :(

Now I just wonder if you get Ryu's Stage when you buy him or if it'll be free. Same for if Dream Land 64 will cost money or will be free in the update.

Holy crap, PLEASE let the update make it so DLC characters have custom moves, going by this.

Edit: Huh, Ryu has both English & Japanese voices (maybe by region?). Roy is obviously Japanese only again.

"I should've been more specific. I meant the default custom move images. None of the DLC characters get anything special. :x"

Boooooooo.

She was Street Fighter II's music composer along side another person.

Well she did compose the SF2 soundtrack.
That's what I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if she arranged this. She seems to have a thing for arranging her own songs, considering she did arranges of Mario and Luigi RPG songs in both Brawl and Smash 4.
Plus the violin barrage is very similar to her Magicant arrange, so it's kind of a give away.

Well at least we'll learn what Ryu's moveset is.

I'm still guessing it's:

B: Hadoken
Side B: Tatsumaki Senpukyaku
Up B: Shoryuken
Down B: Focus Attack
