Steam Summer Sale 2015 thread of refunding everything you buy (June 11-21)

Kind of sucks for me as I don't enjoy the pressure and anxiety I get from round based objective elimination modes or extra competitive modes. Maybe when I git gud I'll dabble.

You will start low level with other people that match your play. Everyone with you will either be a veteran that isn't very good, or a new player like yourself. Don't worry about the pressure, it's just a game. People may try and lay it on, but ignore them and enjoy it. It plays very differently from other shooters, and once you get in, you will never want to play any other modes. Get used to how the guns fire, then jump into Competitive. You will be limited to 2 wins per day until you are ranked, so will need to play some other modes anyway.

Comp is split into 2 types of game. Hostage missions, and Bomb missions. There is no deathmatch in Competitive. In hostage one team tries to rescue the hostage (pick them up, carry them to spawn) while the other team tries to stop them. Bomb works the same way but a team has to plant it at a spot, and then there is a countdown before it explodes. The defending team can defuse it if they can reach it and have time.

welp removing Mordor from my wishlist
any game that doesnt even have a real final boss isnt worth my time

Game is meh. In fact that game is what caused me to swear off Assassin's Creed forever. It made me realize how terrible the formula is and I thought I already hated AC.

Yeah I absolutely loved Borderlands 2 but have been hesitant for the pre-sequel. Not sure why but part of it is the oxygen mechanic.

The oxygen mechanic doesn't get in the way as it's never in short supply. I figured by now there would be an infinite oxygen mod for those who'd rather not worry about the mechanic at all, but a cursory Google search suggests that it didn't happen. Overall, I had more fun with Pre-Seq than 2 (played through both with a mate), although it is a bit on the short side for a Borderlands game.

That's interesting, is it that way because of smurfs?

I'd be interested in trying out Watch Dogs, but I was hoping for the price to drop below $10, especially considering that i bought Metro Redux for $10 on the first day of summer sale.

Should have mentioned I was really into CSS(2009 I think before tf2 went f2p though) although still not the traditional competitive modes, but I do know what they are/how they play.

How are these games? 19 and 24 cents respectively.

A perfectly fine and competent shooter that would have fit in well back in the 90s with so many quick home console shmups. It's nothing special, but at that price and if you sell the cards, it's really just a few cents for an okay time waster.

Yes, and they just added a 'profile rank' and a minimum of it before you can join comp at all now. I'm not a fan of that move myself.

Lol yes. Thought you were a first timer.

How Tomb Raider: Temple of Osiris and Guardian of Light? Worth it?
Guardian of the Light was really amazing. Creative puzzles, the co-op was very fun and really worth it to buy it. Temple of Osiris was a bit disappointing. It's more of the same as Guardian of Light, but a lot shorter. Should be fine buys when on sale though!

is the wolfenstein dlc worth it? i mean the old blood. I avoided trailer and anything i could so i have no clue what is going on in the dlc. i really liked the new order.

Mordor GOTY for $20 on Bundlestars...

Thoughts on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series? I just bought the bundle. I heard good things about the first two, but I bought Clear Sky as well just for the hell of it.

They are great ( Clear Sky not so much ). If you want, you can check out the complete mods for it which are pretty good and add/fix a lot of stuff.

If you are looking for something a bit different give Knock-knock a try!

I'll keep an eye for some games that may be less known and leave some impressions in here. :)

The beeeeeeesssst games EVER.

I'd recommend DLing the "Complete" mods. A quick google should find them.

I got Clear Sky in a humble bundle for like a buck a while back. The only one I haven't played (despite sinking 100hrs each into the other ones -backlog problems). I hear CS is okay too. Play 'em in order. They're all pretty comparable, it's not like The Witcher where the gfx change a lot, or Mass Effect where the gameplay is different each installment.

Edit: FYI the order of release was SoC; CS; CoP

All Steam sales are is a reminder that I own too many games! Haha I haven't bought one thing thus far! Came close on Naruto, but still haven't played Full Burst yet.

At this point, looking for Distance, Titan Souls, Windward, and Hands of Fate, among a few other small things.

Valdis Story and Rouge Legacy could both drop lower, right? I'm guessing they won't, but I was thinking I might buy them and just want to make sure.

Also, how is Kingdoms of Amalur?

Both have been dailys and flash sales in the past so I would expect it again, dunno what their price points are right now though.

So I started playing This War of Mine last night around midnight. Figured I'd give it a shot before bed, play for a little bit. 5AM rolled around. WOW. I love it.

Knock Knock was so boring. I was playing it with a friend on a community meet-up and while the first hour or so was interesting, it became dull, repetitive and boring fast. Interesting idea, but missing spice.

I quickly looked up some info about the games before I bought them and I read something about the Complete Mods. Might be something to check out.

Glad you told me, I would have went to Call of Pripyat after Shadow of Chernobyl.

so it seems like every day it's gunna be quicker to beat the levels in the Steam game? I played 23hours yesterday for level 900, and after 3hours today im at 600. Still, no card drops...

Holy hell. I'm in a lobby and we're currently at level 1551. I have all the abilities, my stats are all lvl 10(ES is 13, FE is 13, APR is 11, and LS is 17) and I have 7,000M left over I wonder if we'll hit lvl 5000 :P.

Edit: Before I could finish typing this we went through 3 levels, one of which was a boss level...

Got Enslaved yesterday. I remember playing it for a few hours on Xbox 360 and thinking this isn't bad. Now, playing it at 1440p at 100+fps and max graphical settings thanks to some BaseEngine.ini tweaks found in the Steam forums, it's pretty damn cool for $5.

*still grumbling about the Lara Croft games not getting additional discounts*

Not sure if I want to check out Temple of Osiris at this time now. I might as well wait and see till around the end of the sale then if it not going to change in price.

Jesus fuck, so many Tomb Raider games on sale. Which ones are worth getting?

From crystal dynamics, definitely at least Anniversary (for a really faithful entry to the originals) and 2013 Reboot, which despite lacking in some things that make TR special, is still very well made and enjoyable. Lara Croft games are also nice games both solo and co-op (least Guardian of Light) fill with puzzles, actions, and tombs!

Core Design games wise, I only really played The Last Revelation, but it seems like the first 4 games are worth checking out if you want to go that far back, while Chronicles seems bleh and Angel of Darkness is considered the worst in the main series.

It's been around $5 already elsewhere, so it's not worth it to get from this sale.

Not usually the Steam version though, if such things bother you. I got a lot of mileage out of the game, even playing at launch. I think it's a bit underrated, probably because of the downgrade issue.

How is Chivalry? Apparently the reviews suggest that the game is currently kind of cancerous now with all the hacking. Could be a case of not gitting gud doe.

Night of the Rabbit is actually cheaper in a bundle that includes other games too. So nobody buy that on its own. The bundle is on that page. Seems pretty good value.

Chivalry is a game about an honorable war of two rivaling forces, namely ARGAAATHAAAAAA AAAAARGH OFF WITH HIS HEAD AAAAAHG
