Steam Summer Sale 2015 thread of refunding everything you buy (June 11-21)

I thought the reduction to $9 to get a card was a great idea but looks like it wasn't actually implemented.

I need now a better deal on:

Scholars Upgrade
Revelations 2 all episodes
Not a Hero
Dirt Rally
Gat out of Hell
RE5 Untold Stories
Lemma

To actually have nothing in my wishlist.

So Monster Sales only unlockable if you play the game? For how long? Locking discount behind metagame that I don't want to play sounds dumb tbh.
They're unlocked by the community cooperatively, everyone gets to benefit.

Only thing you're getting from playing is cards, the sense of working together and having achieved something (debatable) and fun (highly debatable).

Spintires doesn't seem to be different and improved over its original kickstarter and early access release. The game doesn't have missions besides going from the pick up point on the map to a drop off. No first person view, limited truck customization, deep mud everywhere and horrible camera views. The initial demo had the ability to add community mods which the full retail release still lacks. I thought by now this game would look like euro truck simulator but it's not even 5 percent close.

Unless they changed it recently you don't need to play the game at all. The discounts are open to everyone.

Weird. I can buy those games as I can any other and I've not even clicked on the game.

Ah I see, I thought it was just limited to people who played the game. Thanks!

Warning clocks about the game started to ring when I looked at forums, were almost all threads on the first page were pinned threads, and most of about various issues.

Axiom won't see a discount before October or November I think. At least I sorta remember the people behind the game saying as much, though I could be remembering wrong.

I'll wait then.
There's a lot of games to play and i'm in no rush.

Sort of wanted to buy it for ps4, but after shovel knight left a Boss Lifebar on my plasma TV, i think i'll stick to PC if i can.

I have a few € left in my Steam Wallet from a gift, is it possible to buy something from the remainder of my wallet and fill the rest up with my back account? I'd rather not have money in my Steam Wallet because that'd be rather tempting.

For example:

- A game costing €14,99
- I have €4,10 in wallet
- Pay the remainder from my bank account and end up with exactly 0,00 in the wallet.

Yes.
Doing that all the time thanks to occasional card sales.

The Shovel Knight devs said the same thing then it went on sale during the Winter Seal.
I say wait and see; it's the usual process-
Is it a daily or flash? Then buy it.

Anyone know if Apotheon is a bit less buggy, these days?

I remember it being a bit of a mess at launch, so I held off on grabbing it.

Wasn't it a daily on the first day? It won't get a flash deal.

Really? oh man I missed it! Urghh
Huh, not necessary. During the sales of olden, months and months ago, we were witnesses of games appearing multiple times in different positions in the same sale. It was the most annoying miracle. And even if this should not be the case with Hotline Miami 2 in this sale, we still can pray to the judeo-christian god to send another son that get's involved with Valve and crucifies himself to let the game appear in the encore.

Here's a maybe too obscure question to those who have the Agarestgames:
Many reviews state the grindiness of the games- as I don't have the patience anymore for timewastes like that: how easily are savefiles hex-edited to change exp/money?

What are the main differences between 2003 and XP/VX Ace? Is it less functional in some way but more functional in others?
Differences (mind I only have cursory "meh why is it so different compared to XP" experience with VX):
XP/VX: high(er) customization/possibilities due to use of a proper language (ruby); like for instance you can do file-read/write (good for textstuff), change the amount of animationframes, movementsteps and such.
Also bigger sprites possible.
[&unless it changed: XP removed the faceoptions for dialog (which is easily put back), while VX removed the tile-id stuff and had less tilelayers but has the more uptodate rubylib)
With 2003(&2000) you have to work around its limitations as there's no programming involved - if you want to do a custom menu/ui/battlesys you have to work with pictures, have to 'hardcode' any dialogtext involved etc. IMO its fun if you like to work around/with limitations (implementing dijkstra+a* for srpgs is perfectly possible), but if you want something more easily(?)* customizable and a bit more high-res you should go XP/VX.

*relative as some people are scared of even shallow programming

The boss health bar stays in the top right (empty) even while you're playing through the level.
Maybe it's a bug, but it's there for me.

Ah. I thought you meant it left a burned-in image since you specified plasma TV.

I'm almost positive it does that simply because a lot of old games it takes inspiration from also left a boss health bar on the screen that filled when you actually reached the boss. It's been a while since I beat it on Wii U, though, and I bought it but never downloaded on PSN, so who knows. Doesn't sound like a bug at all but intentional design, though.

Damn, I am this close to failing my goal of not buying anything.

I'm looking at Tomb Raider (2013) for 3,99€, versus the definitive edition on PS4 (11'99€). I hardly care about the DLC, but legends say that there are more graphical effects on PS4...

And it still can appear during the encore sale on the last day.

Trivializing the combat is trivial, the problem is that it will still take a lot of time.

Of IF's currently available Steam stuff I'd much rather suggest getting the Neptunia games.

so guys. since every dollar counts during these sales, something came to my mind. i bought mass effect 1 on steam a month or two back for 7 bucks and i tried redeeming the cd key to origin and it worked, so now i have it on both origin and steam. i'm kinda thinking of requesting a refund so that i can use the 7 bucks on something new WHILE at the same time keeping my origin copy. any idea if that'll work? :P i'm thinking not, i think the cd keys are linked to the steam purchase, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Isn't it a two week claims window?

You're asking for advice on how to steal the game?

The conditions aren't set in stone and this is expressly mentioned in the same paragraph as said conditions. The Steam Help site allows you to request refunds on purchases up to six months old, but given the refund system has been in place for almost two weeks now, I suspect Valve will soon start being picky about approving refund requests that fall on the wrong side of either condition.

It did (though it's not too evident now, and it's going away, but i get paranoid).

I'm not faulting the game, plasma TVs are annoying as shit with this, and i mainly bought it to watch movies anyway, but it does influence where i buy and play my games, depending on their HUDs.

Isn't it a two week claims window?
that is true but I've seen people getting refunds for games as long as three months back, so I'm not very sure..

You're asking for advice on how to steal the game?
not sure I would call it stealing personally, maybe taking some advantage on some loop holes that may or (as I expect) may not work. I don't see any difference with people taking advantage of very obvious price errors, could be seen as stealing as well.

I think most would call it stealing. It's the digital equivalent of buying a physical game, taking the disc out, re-shrinkwrapping the case, and returning it to the store.
...well, close enough

Come on man, that's not right.

Well, not that I care that much but refunding a game and still being able to enjoy it seems like a really close approximation.

TBH I hope that, if you try this, you get banned from requesting refunds since what you're proposing is most certainly an abuse of the system.

Edit: Good to see you changed your mind :)
