Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

They're called Mar & Tina in spanish.

Martina is a spanish fem name, I guess they went that way because "mar" is sea in spanish.

Oh, Mar is a common name in Spain.

A "tina" is a bathtub in Spanish. I don't know of that's on purpose but it keeps the water theme with "mar" being the sea.

I wanna start using the charger in Ranked but I'm terrible. Got tips, like with abilities and stick sensitivity? I also have the E-Liter. I see people destroying with this gun for some reason.

Not really much to say. You just have to practice with it as it plays a lot differently than the other guns. The base Splat Charger is good for ranked for bomb rush but just use what works for you. Just play some turf war and practice hitting people.

Man I just don't get it, I win most of the time when I play splat zones and lose most of the time when I play turf wars. That's like the opposite of most people here

Edit: Now I'm getting hard crashes in the middle of games that require me to unplug the console, great

Ranked up to C+

I've decided I'm really good at splat zones. Much better than I am at turf war. Let's hope that continues into the higher ranks

The Splatoon parts of NWC I watched were embarassing.

Hmm map rotation just happened. Time to hit ranked again!

Oh I played with a zing for a few ranked matches before the rotation happened. Was that you? It would have been in the C/C+ match range

Hmm, no. I am ranked higher and I haven't played for a few hours.

After getting creamed by rollers on Saltspray ranked, I decided to try out the Golden Dynamo Roller. It's ok.

I finally made it to B tier! It's great to see Echolocator become more and more useful as the skill level of teammates increases. I think I like Kelp Dome for Splat Zones. You can paint the small blocks on the catwalk to stay on the high ground, refill your ink tank, and control a lot of area.

Laggy rollers are the biggest pieces of garbage in this game. Got stuck on a team of 3 rollers, which is already not an ideal situation, but then the other team's roller was lagging by 1-2 full seconds. Literally every single encounter, I splatted her and then waited for my own doom. I wasn't even surprised when it happened anymore. It's just, like, I'm already dead.

Ugh, this game. Tried really hard to have one good match before bed and gave up in the end. Some nights are just not Splatoon nights.

I'm trying to figure out how to avoid getting 'carp'el tunnel syndrome while using the brush. Everyone seems to be able to button mash with impunity online.

Are you guys alternating pressing the ZR trigger with your pointer and middle finger?

the secret is to play it for three or four rounds and then go do something else because JESUS CHRIST MY FINGERS

if I really wanted to watch a bunch of amateurs play Splatoon I'd just have to hop online for a game of Splat Zones or two*

*I didn't follow the Championship. Was it that bad?

Apparently. They also had all the players labeled "Player 1/Player 2" etc instead of their names so you couldn't tell who was doing what

Does anyone else use their teammates as bait when they super jump to you? I do try to save them but sometimes I don't make it on time.

The Splatoon portion was pretty not great. It was very clear that several of them had no clue what they were doing. For whatever reason they could only choose the Test Fire weapons it seemed, no one used a Charger. It was kind of meh throughout, though the Super Mario Maker bit was fantastic.

Don't understand how this game works in ranked. What's the number underneath the remaining points? What's the deal with overtime? Why is it that when we have control it doesn't always count down?
From the Prima Guide: "if the trailing team captures all Splat Zones, the leading team incurs a time penalty based on how much further ahead they were--the further ahead, the harsher the penalty. ... If the trailing team controls all Splat Zones when time runs out, the game goes into overtime"

miniwheat was very cute on commentary. It's worth seeing it for him during the Splatoon segment.

Otherwise, ya, you will yell at your screen over people clearly not knowing how to play Splatoon and falling in the water to save time I guess.

They should've been better at Splatoon as well as other games (Cosmo with Mk and wall jumping)

Yeah, they were all pretty bad.

People were complaining in the thread that they shouldn't use team based games but a good player could've easily carried.

Why can't I make it out of B tier. Maybe cause I only use chargers? I either destroy everyone or get my ass handed to me.
You need to be able to carry your team and cover the zone quickly. The charger probably isn't the best weapon for that.

Eh. That's kinda the point though right? A wide variety of different games, even if the players don't know them well.

Sure it wasn't that fun to watch from a competitive standpoint, but it was still nice to just see it being represented on such a big stage.

If anything, the NWC has kinda triggered a massive itch to see competitive Splatoon take off just because people are sleeping on how wild that can get.

Also, name tags next time Nintendo.

Not really. It was supposed to be a competition which is made slightly less fun when the people who might be able to do better are losing because they have people who haven't got a clue.

Eh. Guess I just see it a little differently. The competition was made up of a bunch of different games, and splatoon is a fairly new one. So naturally you're not going to have 16 players that are really good at it, since it's just one piece of a bigger picture.

I'd like to see high level splatoon tournaments, but this was obviously not going to be that.

Seemed like the entire competition was more about testing general player skill (how good are these people at video games in general) and adaptability to new challenges.

Brought this to a friends house to let two guys try it. At first they were unimpressed... By the end if the night they were jumping around cheering as we played and one of them is buying a wii u tomorrow.

My grip seems a bit off. It's like I'm constantly shifting the pad.

I never had this problem before, and it's not like anything hurts. Maybe I'm just taking too long of a break from playing.

A few things piss me off about the game. It is not much, but I think it deserves to be nerfed.

- Kraken instakill jump
- (arguably) Splatter JR Bubbler
- (arguably) Dynamo rollers

Why the hell does the kraken need this ability? Why give an ability that poses no risk whatsoever and is basically a jail out of free card paired with a win button. It is bullshit. Rollers are super strong as is, they don't need this.

permanently done with ranked unless they let you team up with friends, fucking garbage

Why would you be able to pair with friends in a ranked match?

The kraken needs an attack because otherwise it would only be an escape card.

How would you change the kraken?

What's wrong with the bubble and what would you change?

What's wrong with the dynamo and what would you change?

Edit: Hengs post is good.
Kinda confused at this question. The original post makes sense.
It's a gamemode with rankings so you your friend would have to be the same rank as you to play with them. It also would allow boosting.

Why would you be able to pair with friends in a ranked match?
If you're going to consider the nerf to these weapons (and skill), you need to consider the drawbacks of each of them.

Kraken can easily be outran, and if you bait them into chasing you until their kraken ability runs out, there's not much they can do. So if you don't want it to 1 shot you, do you want it to be able to out swim regular squids?

Bubble takes a lot of knock back from shots and can easily be pushed into a corner until their duration runs out. If you want to nerf its duration, would you want it to take no knock backs from shots? Up close, the weapon is strong but it lacks range so you can easily keep it at bay.

Dynamo roller is considered to be overpowered by many, but of those people who thinks it's overpowered don't understand how long it takes for it to actually swing the weapon. If it had a short range, what would be the point in using it if the range isn't there? You could say speed up the animation and lower the range, but what would be the difference between the rollers available compared to the nerf rollers?

I don't believe any weapon is overpowered because they all have weaknesses. Many weapons can counter other weapons; aerospray or any fast gun can kill the dynamo roller before it can finish the fling animation, blasters/chargers can take out rollers, long range weapons can take out aerospray/short range weapons, and plenty more examples. If they nerf a weapon, it can easily throw off the balance of the game.

I think what you consider overpower (or too strong) is due to the lack of familiarity of said weapons. If you truly think it's too strong, I suggest playing with those weapons and you'll learn the weaknesses better and come up with ways to beat them.

I would like to also find friends on ranked and play against other pre made teams on ranked, but that's just me.

Yeah, I think I'm going to have to find a way to wire the Wii U to the router.
Haha I was kidding. That room was really laggy with all those japanese players anyways. I think your connection is fine, it's probably the host of the room was too laggy for everyone.

Never played any game with matchmaking that did that. Or ever heard of such a thing.

It also would allow boosting.

So? Sounds like a handicap to have a low level player in a team against an opposing team of balanced level players.

Teams are shuffled after every match. If you still lose with the same guys who just mopped the floor with you... then maybe it's not the teams fault. ^^

To be fair it doesn't always shuffle differently. In my string of matches in ranked today there were two people who were with me in nearly all of my matches (a decent roller and a really good Japanese charger), until the last match I played where one of them finally went to the opposing team and the other one left
