The video didn't make the combat seem that improved from other Bethesda games, but at least he's paying lip service to the idea of improving it.
 
It actually makes it easier... Dead Island has a similar system if I remember.

Basically it's using "elements" instead of actual items.


It doesn't make it easier at all if you have to find a damn globe and a clock instead of just having generic building supplies that you can get anywhere.

The way it works is that multiple items are doing the same thing. So you can find any of the items in the "Wood" category for example to craft something that requires wood.

Which is much more of a pain in the ass than just being able to use "wood"

You still have to hunt down environmental objects that otherwise you could just ignore and let be part of the world.
 
Is it weird that I was totally on board before he started showing me the lame base building thing even though it is optional?
