Fallout 4 - Multiple E3 Gameplay Demos, Releasing November 10th, 2015

I loved how people started applauding when they showed off that you can play as a female character. It really says something about the media when everyone applauds at something that has always been part of the Fallout franchise.

Looking good. I loved the atmosphere of ruined DC in Fallout 3, but it helped that I was familiar with a lot of the landmarks etc, so finding them felt meaningful, it was part of what made exploration so much fun. I know next to nothing about Boston, so it might not have the same resonance for me. Still, post apocalyptic open-world, character customisation and a dog companion you can tell to fetch stuff? Tickets for the hype train purchased.

Really excited by what I saw. Everything from the "wacky fun" style action montage and crafting + building system was superb.

Graphics still look like upressed X360 + better lighting but who cares.

I was happy since the rumor that we'll only be playing as a male was circling around, which is what Todd probably was referencing when he said that of course we'll be playing as a female.

I may have missed this, but does anyone know who in the UK will be stocking the Pipboy edition? I know amazon.com has it, can I assume amazon.co.uk will be stocking it too?

Yeah but it was a sickly radioactive green... which makes sense but we will probably be able to change it. Also, customizable settlement names please! You Have Discovered GAF-VILLE

Ah yeah it is quite a bit brighter think.
I usually go with blue, I hope that looks alright.

You're not getting it because they threw in a completely optional(which Howard even emphasized) extensive crafting system?

I might have to take a break from GAF during E3. I don't know if I can take it and not give up on humanity.

Again with the "optional" fallacy. It seems you just too got too sensitive with any sort of criticism that you managed to subvert the main concerns I have for this game. The problem here, that flew over your head, is the amount of effort dedicated to this "optional" content than core world-building or other role-playing elements.

art wise it looks a lot better than fallout 3 for me, the colors are more vibrant and not dull as fuck as in fallout 3.

also Furiosa sighting at 4:32 in the gameplay video, that wasn't randomly thrown in I bet!

Just watched the conference. Gotta say I was a little skeptical about this game but I'm pretty damn impressed with what they showed. I like the new dialogue system and voiced protagonist. And really pleased it's coming this year.

They're showing off what's new in the game man. You're not gonna get a complete look at the game and how well distributed the effort has been based on a couple little videos. In fact, you can never really get a good idea of this without actually playing the game yourself.

Meaning? Dialog options segregated by karma?

If so... Uuuugh...

Can't watch the footage, because work.
No, you only have 4 answers each time - one for each button of your controller. And you don't really see what the character is going to say. Like in Mass Effect.

Not really mad about this. Think this was included because the main character acutally talks now so hearing him say exactly what you just read would have been a bit boring.

Did they say what type of system they were running the demo on? I know they were using a Xbox Controller, but I don't think that was an XB1 they were using

Wondering if they can reproduce those same visuals on a console?

Meaning you get to choose between a couple of vague phrases that may or may not give you a decent indication of what your character is going to say when you pick your characters response.
You want full sentences so you can make an informed decision over what character is going to say? Yeah well fuck you, this is the future.

Dialogue options are on the four face buttons of a controller and gave the gist of the line instead of having the whole thing typed out. The demo showed conversations in a third person camera with it facing the character currently speaking (but I believe Todd said conversations could also be viewed in first person).

It's a good change in my opinion.

That's the smaller problem, the bigger one is that by taking the idiotic decision that is dubbing the main character, they had to limit the answers to 4. For fuck sake.

I'm sure it was a PC and I'm also sure they won't have issues producing those visuals on a console. They look nice enough but certainly nothing mind blowing. We have plenty of games on consoles already that look better than this.

I'm sure it'll be a bit janky, though.

Just watched all those videos and damn, it looks great. The crafting and the option to build seem like great additions to the game.

Okay, that crafting system demo blew my mind. Wonderful to see indie mechanics and sensibilities bleeding into AAA titles.

However, I'm also old enough to remember the hype around Radiant AI and the incredible letdown of its execution... I can't help but wonder if the crafting system really is as robust and emergent as advertised, particularly from a company with a history of overblown marketing and buggy engines.

So cautiously optimistic until I see third party gameplay streams.

TLDR; please, please be good.

I'm excited for it, but it's a shame that all of the jank and badly designed elements are so clearly still there.

You have to wonder if it's ignorance or arrogance that they don't fix the most obvious problems game after game.

Niceee, but it looks like they took a lot of the improvements straight from theProject Nevada Mod for New Vegas lol
- Grenade Hotkey
- Visor when you wear helmet
- Correct me if I am wrong but in additional to V.A.T.S it looks like there could be a slow time feature, "bullet time"

Not complaining looks sick

Every iteration of FO/ES seems to pick up some of the better mods, it's pretty clever to me.

I'm super hyped for this, can't wait for the game. Almost want to preorder right now. I personally think that the game looks really good and I really like the art style. Animations are ok... nothing like an amazing new tech but it's what I expected from it. Their games never hat totally outstanding animations, I'm fine with this. Gameplay was always top notch in my eyes.

And I really really hope we see more new games on E3 that will get a release in the near future, this is awesome! Much better than an announcement and afterwards silence for a year. I really like this :)

Haven't really had time to react yet, since I was busy writing news articles during the conference. I fist-pumped when they revealed the release date.

It just looks goddamn amazing. I still saw some relics of Gamebryo, like the cold dead stare of the main characters and a weird running animation, but godammit, it looks goddamn amazing. I can't fucking wait to delve into this world.

The world's look, the scope of the game, the crafting - all impressive.

But good lord the animations, the voice acting, the dialogue - it's just so so so far behind contemporary standards. I can't even believe it, really. I respect Bethesda's passion, ambition, and history but for gods sake can they hire some animators capable of making a modern rig, and maybe some writers who are even remotely in touch with how humans interact with each other.

It's just a shame to think that in all those endless miles of open world there will probably be no memorably endearing characters or genuine laughs. Not saying there won't be OTHER cool stuff but they desperately need to modernize these things.

I just started thinking about this: is it possible that Bethesda has more to show from Fallout 4 on the Microsoft press conference today? The reveal notably did not show extended footage from a quest, instead focusing on showing off free exploration and the crafting and upgrade systems. What is preventing Bethesda from stealing the thunder during the MS presser by showing 8 minutes of VATS and dialogue heavy gameplay in the middle of a quest?

Should be fun.

But I'm keeping my expectations down. Bethesda knows how to create games that have maximum demo and hype impact...

but actually playing through them (in their base state) gets repetitious and stale and unbalanced after a while.

And their combat systems are always always trash. At least you have the option of going the Fallout system rather than their standard real time trash, which is a nice up from the ES series.

Quests are exclusive to Xbox One. PS4 and PC will only get exploration and crafting without story

The Pip-Boy edition isn't on the UK Amazon yet so I'm having to import it from the US. I'll cancel the order when it does show on UK Amazon, I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss out.
