Fallout 4 - Multiple E3 Gameplay Demos, Releasing November 10th, 2015

Very impressed with how much stuff Todd Howard and his team have crammed into Fallout 4. There goes another 100+ hours of my life come November.

Anyone think it looks a bit too kooky and wacky? Reminded me too much of dead rising.
Also you seem like you might get too powerful, I never saw fallout as a sandbox world for you to mess around in. I always saw it as a struggle for survival but power armour that can and the like all makes it seem as if you're gonna be overpowered by end game.

Seriously, barring any massive surprises in the next 24 hours, how anybody couldn't think that this is the most interesting game of this year is completely beyond me.

It looks like it will be absolutely spectacular and is among the few games that could actually justify a $60 price tag.

It's bethesda, after the shinyness and hype wears off and you get the game, you fall in love with the world for the first 10 hours before you slowly realise the flaws of the writing and the designed game systems and then after that wait for mods to make the game playable.

Happened to Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout 3. All three games had insane hype that people realised were deeply flawed games months later. However those 10 hours of magic and wonder while you slowly explore the world is the best part of bethesda games.

Am I weird? I disliked New Vegas but liked Fallout 3. I also dislike every other Bethesda game pretty much (especially Skyrim). Pretty damn hyped for this though.

I say this as someone that loves NV, but it's completely overrated on GAF (relative to FO3). The way people go on about the writing in the game, you would swear it was Citizen Kane or something. It's almost exactly the same as the Kotor/Kotor 2 situation, Kotor 2 is supposed to be easily the better game on GAF even though the game was unfinished and borderline broken.

I can honestly say that I played the shit out of Skyrim at launch and I have never fallen out of love with it. It is the only game that rivals GTA V or TLoU as the best game of the last generation IMHO.

Never happened to me, without mods even. Everybody's different though but I enjoyed exploring Fallout 3/Skyrim in the 100th hour just as much as I did in the first few hours.

The animations looked horrible, the dialogue system is awful and it is a bethesda game so it will be buggy as shit on launch.

It'll be fine when modders fix it, but I wouldn't play it on launch.

Pfft. I played Skyrim on 360 and it's the best game of that gen.

Finally got to see the gameplay clip from big screen and damn. I'm sold. Not a big fan of base building but everything else besides graphics and animations looks amazing.

And that weapon modding, god damn. Still not buying this day one because the game is going to be buggy as fuck at release, though.

It's a big game with a ton of neat stuff but the gameplay demo totally encompassed how I am utterly disinterested in and unstimulated by Bethesda's idea of a "role playing game" and what they've done with the Fallout franchise. It's worlds apart from the series roots to the point where it is now a completely unique entity, for better or (at least for me) worse. It's just not Fallout 4 as I'd see Fallout 4. It's open world RGP-lite with crafting system made by Bethesda. Cool if you're into that. Otherwise *shrug*

I'll give it a look when it comes out but yeah, crafting/town building sealed the deal that this really isn't for me.

This is basically my opinion as well.

this crafting system was cool, you can scrap and rebuild the world

so you're the level designer here

It's bethesda, how well will much of this work? Dialog looked basic as fuck. Quest design , writing, amimations and combat could be crap for all we know. People are letting their excitement get their expectations go through the roof. I doubt this touches Witcher 3 in many areas., Many prefer top notch RPG mechanics, quests, writing over creation tools and bethesda quite frankly sucks at it.

Agree, lots of areas to be concerned with from what we have seen.

Oh god. That was such a treat. As a huge Fallout fan, I cannot wait to get my hands on this. I'll probably even download that mobile game haha. Really hoping I can get a collectors edition

I don't get the voiced character hate. Imagining yourself as the character and therefore them being silent in the game has never worked for me

*raises hand*

Don't get me wrong, the new features are interesting, but really not my bag. Fallout just isn't compelling to me anymore and if I'm honest I hate creation tools like they're offering with a passion. I'm the kind of guy that suffocates with so many options.

I'm kinda surprised they didn't show any revolutionary 'next-gen' mechanic really. Figured they would have tried to show off some improved AI behaviour or something.

What do you think looks more interesting, just out of curiosity? (and it has to be something due for release in 2015).

Issues:
Limited selection of voices (1/gender (probably)). Not every character should sound the same. Gets annoying.
Limits dialogue options extremely heavily, and thus reactions, options and whatever else.

They don't mesh in a RPG that well.

Of course, this being a Bethesda game, no one should be expecting a deep roleplaying experience, except in the "you play like you want" sense.

When you say 'you', you actually mean you, right? Because what you said is complete horseshit when applied to 'you', by which I mean me.

Witcher, persona for me personally. Fallout knowing bethesda I doubt will be a deep role playing experience, more a sandbox. It depends on what you prefer. Dialog looked limited and lacking any real options. Questd esign is not bethesda's strong suit.

Voiced protag is up in the air for me. If Bethesda really ups their writing game and has created a compelling main story and secondary quests then it could be a really nice addition.

But if we are just getting the same mediocre writing and story then I can't say I'll care for it. Why highlight and spend so many resources on something most people have little interest and spending a lot of time with. Their strengths lie elsewhere.

If there is something worth paying detailed attention to then I'm all for fully voiced player character, but if it's just the same old passable writing I'd rather not have to bother with listening to mouth my own character and the NPCs as well.

Phantom pain easily, though I'm admittedly have been on Kojima's wild ride for years now. I guess I would have been on Todd's if the stars aligned...

2015's otherwise you may have a point. Really interested in everybody's gone to the rapture as well but we all know thats gonna be story over innovation.

Suppose it's less a case of interesting and more what I know I'll like.

How does it limit options? They can have just as many lines as before. It's fundamentally the same system as Witcher 3, which was bloated with one question after another becoming available as you picked them.

I just started thinking about this: is it possible that Bethesda has more to show from Fallout 4 on the Microsoft press conference today? The reveal notably did not show extended footage from a quest, instead focusing on showing off free exploration and the crafting and upgrade systems. What is preventing Bethesda from stealing the thunder during the MS presser by showing 8 minutes of VATS and dialogue heavy gameplay in the middle of a quest?

They made a big deal out of how they're hosting the conference so they didn't have to show the game anywhere else, so I doubt it.

It looks like it will be absolutely shit and is among the few games I probably wouldn't even touch if they offered to pay me to play.

Underrail, Pillars of Eternity, Satellite Reign..

so you're the level designer here

well the games usually need mods to fix the game for them why not make players make shit for them in game now.

on subject game i will wait after the messy launches of past few Beth games i will just wait and watch

I hope all this base building is TOTALLY optional except from a tutorial because I don't care for this kind of things in games.

If your base is going to get attacked I imagine it won't be totally optional unless you don't build a base in the first place.

Having to voice the lines makes it a lot more work to have more dialog...Bethesda is not exactly great at it to begin with.

If it's like FO3, they'll let you spelunk anywhere you want. You just might not live to return, in which case you'll bring in that OP leveling. Of course the start areas make you a god amoung men by that time.

Buy like any RPG you can over level to start easy mode. So just don't do it, and give yourself a challenge by limiting leveling.

As for kooky, that's Fallout. It's dripping with satire and a cynical take on Americana.

Honestly, Bethesda's writing has never been that great. I'm happy to see them expanding on the type of stuff they can do well. I always thought base building would be a fun mechanic in the Fallout world. I'm iffy on the dialogue wheel but only because it's something I expect from other franchises, not Fallout. I play enough Bioware games to adapt to it.

Jesus this thread is such a bummer.

Also add me to the list of people who couldn't finish NV and was bored by Skyrim but played Fallout 3 to the end and loved it.

I can honestly say that I played the shit out of Skyrim at launch and I have never fallen out of love with it. It is the only game that rivals GTA V or TLoU as the best game of the last generation IMHO.

I always tend to think those people who fall out of love with it, or suddenly think it's dog shit, are those same people who play 200 hours practically non stop.

Like, no shit that you're burnt out.

Base building/tower defense and endless weapon crafting don't appeal to me in the slightest.

Aside from that, game looks great. I like the setting, I like playing before/during bomb drop, I like the kookiness, the dog, and all the classic Fallout stuff.

After the earlier announcement anyone disappointed by this must have hated the game (style? company?) in the first place. There were only pleasent surprises coming from the June 3rd announcement.
